In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a universe of greed.
Director Michel Gondry is paid tribute in the director's name for the claymation sequence, Michel Dongy. Gondry's influence is clear in the scenes where the garage transforms into the luxury room.

Near the end of the film, when Cassius gives his car to his co-worker, he is wearing dark blue pants with a pattern on them. But as he enters the garage with Detroit, he's wearing plain dark red pants.
