Lapis rebuffs the gesture, and Peridot, who is upset that Lapis won't even give her a chance, remarks "What, were you trapped in a tape recorder, too?!" Peridot didn't mean to be malicious, but Lapis actually was trapped in a tape recorder, making this a faux pas on Peridot's part; When Lapis was trapped in the mirror earlier in the series, she could only communicate by repeating things she heard or saw around her, essentially making her a high-tech, sentient tape recorder.
