  • If you haven't played this game because of the crisis it suffered before, I'd recommend you to pick it up now. For the price you will get all the content available and great milsim. Being able to play any era, almost every popular hero/villain, you favorite trooper, and a lot of locations that are known by the fans.
  • Battlefront 2 was a highly controversial release at the time, as the game was heavily (and rightfully) criticized for its emphasis on microtransactions, which allowed to pay real-life money for in-game advantages, a toxic gaming attitude if ever there was one.

What about today? Microtransactions are gone and the game has been polished and updated to satisfying results. The single player campaign is short but decent; the multiplayer is excellent, with maps from different eras (original trilogy, prequel trilogy, sequel trilogy), many classes and heroes with a neat variety of powers, tactics and customization, and also various game modes, including spaceship battles and a personal favorite, Ewok Hunt, where some players are Stromtroopers lost on Endor and the others are the Ewoks stalking them.

I wish local co-op on the same console offered more choices - there are a few game modes allowing it, but a minority compared to what you can play online. Still, this is how you salvage a fiasco.

    8/10
  • We all know about the origins of this game. All the microtransaction drama created by EA. All of that has been fixed, mostly. The multiplayer is fun a hell and does a great job of making you feel like you're in a Star Wars battle. All of the trooper models look fantastic and play great.

Now a major complaint from BF1 was there was no story mode. BF2 attempts to fix that by adding a campaign taking place after the fall of the Empire as the last remnants of it struggle to keep the power after the fall of the Emperor. It's a solid setting to a SW game, but unfortunately the MP game play doesn't work in singleplayer.

The MP gameplay feel doesn't fit well with story missions. You just aimlessly run around and shoot waves of enemies in most missions. There's no cover mechanic to make it playable and enjoyable. The MP game play is good within the confines of a MP match. It's gameplay made to be fair to both people battling against each other as you're gonna die fast and respawn and attempt to capture locations. The game play DOES NOT fit single player missions. There's also NO combat roll which would help like it does in the MP.

Besides the gameplay not matching, the missions of the game just aren't done well. You mostly follow Iden Versio, a special ops leader in the Empire. She is sent to save important Empire targets to ensure the fall doesn't happen. Soon into the campaign she realizes she was on the wrong side when the Empire is willing to sacrifice it's citizens for it's own survival. You follow her turn to the rebellion as she attempts to help to make up for her past service to the bad side.

Interspersed between Iden's missions are really bad filler missions where in each you play as Luke, Leia, Han, and Lando. The versions of those characters you play as are the hero classes in the multiplayer. Their missions are really tedious and just waves of enemies for like 15 mins. Lukes mission? He teams up with a stranded member of Iden's troop to fight bugs for 10 mins. Literally you have to protect the Empire guy while he fixes something from waves of bugs. There's no real challenge as you just wave your lightsaber around until they're all dead.

There's also really bad attempts at humor with Han Solo's mission thanks to a really bad side character. The writers just comes off as lazy when they start to name the mission objective's with sarcastic lines from the bad dialogue. It just seems like even they knew making this campaign was a waste of time.

Flying missions are also just tedious. Shoot a few star fighters, shoot something else. The flying does not feel good either. It somewhat works for MP as you're gonna die over and over, but here it just doesn't feel good. You'll just be spinning around an around trying to shoot enemies. Something like Crimson Skies or the original Tie Fighter have great air combat, this is just fly in circles as you try to shoot enemies.

The ONLY bright spot of the campaign is Shriv a really fun character that I'd like to appear elsewhere in SW media.

The devs could have easily spent all the time making the campaign and just added more maps to the multiplayer. It's so inconsequential and half baked. Not every game has to have a single player component. When it's forced like this you get a poorly structured re-use of the MP assets. Some new stuff is made for it, but the added hero story missions are just re-used MP maps. You can just tell they didn't have enough to work with in the Iden story, so they artificially padded it out with these tedious hero missions.

The multiplayer is the reason to get this game, for $15 it's a really fun time with it. The campaign is just a waste of time and not fun at all, so skip it.
  • No more micro transactions, a large amount of updates and a ridiculous amount of content, this game has become something right at the end of 2019 that I can say is my favorite multiplayer shooter of this generation.

Completely changed from what it used to be , worth a second go with all the new content , definitely reccomend
  • Warning: Spoilers
I feel that all the games haters only hate BFII for one sole reason: this is an EA game. And while EA has made a lot of bad games, this game I actually like. It's definitely a vast improvement over their previous Battlefront game, as it actually has a campaign this time. And I do like the class system and this game's combat. But lets go over some things first.

THE CAMPAIGN The campaign is decent, but kinda cliche. I mean who else didn't see Iden Versio turning good halfway through the campaign? I also think that the campaign's gameplay is a little repetitive. While it's fun, all you really do the whole the time is run to a location and shoot up some enemies, over and over. In spite of all that, the characters are pretty interesting. And while the story, like I said earlier, is cliche, at least I can call it a story. I mean, we're not talking Destiny-level storytelling here.

THE MULTIPLAYER As for the multiplayer, well, it's okay. Again, I really like the class system. I think my favorite class is the heavy. I really like playing as the heavy class because I really like mowing down a bunch of enemy players at once, and because I like heavy weaponry in video games. I also like the star cards as well, because they're not as simple like the previous game. They're also a lot more helpful than in the last game.

I understand if you don't like the pay to win and micro-transactions. But again, I think most of BFII's haters only hate it because it was made by EA, the most hated gaming company ever. But, these are just my thoughts, my opinions and my perspective.
  • At first, the game was a bit shaky, but I had faith DICE (not EA) would come through and deliver. I think I was right. They've been taking community feedback. "Pay to win" was removed a few days into launch. Progression system has had a massive overhaul to the point where you gain xp by gameplay rather than by loot crates, which have also been removed. They've added lots of customization options, and a clone wars dlc (including anakin, obi wan, grevious, dooku, and geonosis, along with clone trooper legion skins) is on the way. I have higher hopes for this game, mainly because I'm a diehard Star Wars fan.
  • I started to play "Star Wars Battlefront 2" a long time after its release in 2017, when it was made available as one of the free games on Playstation Plus. I wouldn't have engaged with any microtransactions anyway, but this was long enough after the furore had dampened down that it wasn't a factor for me. I enjoyed the game, but not as much as it's predecessor.

There is a single player campaign to Battlefront this time, one which sees players take control of Iden Versio (Janina Gavankar) leader of the Inferno Squad Imperial special forces unit, who has her faith in the Empire shaken by the fall of the second Death Star and subsequent decisions taken in the aftermath. The multiplayer modes return, most commonly played is the large scale 80 player capture the flag skirmishes, in which success can see either force launch an attack on the others strategic base. Other modes allow dogfight only battles or situation that focus on battles involving the hero and villain characters, from across the Star Wars franchise.

The single player campaign is quite good and allows you to explore a lot of the galaxy. It shifts up the gameplay quite a lot too, either by allowing Versio to take control of an AT-AT or Tie Fighter, or by shifting to a section of the story that lets you play as one of the other heroes, that either Versio or another member of her team interacts with. Occasionally though, it does get a little bogged down with choke points, which can get frustrating and if you're with a computer-controlled character to assist you they are virtually useless.

Though I played the skirmish multiplayer mode a lot this time and I really liked it if I got involved in a balanced game, where assaults on the star ships were repelled and the ground skirmish continues, it never gripped me in the same way that Walker Assault, from the original game did. There the objectives felt much more dynamic than in this game. The battle revolves around five base positions on each map, two of which are close the initial spawn points for each team, and a fifth in a central location. I didn't feel like all of the maps were quite a balanced as they should be, I often played games that involved one of the teams being entirely penned in to their spawn point, unable to get out. The most disappointing thing though was the change in the implementation of the hero characters into this game mode. Rather than being used to balance games, they are instead used like rewards for earning points in the game, which means that the often have entirely the opposite effect and just further unbalance a game (particularly if a couple of these players can get on the same page, and work as a team).

You can't argue with the depth of the game though, the base character classes have dozens of skin variations, as well as guns to modify and loadouts to manipulate.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Battlefront 2 and have played it for multiple hours. I just wish that the focus of the multiplayer games was more on creating a fun experiences and less on rewarding the best players.

If you can overlook the short campaign and the old controversy about the pay system (which they have fixed), then this game is amazing. The multiplayer is super fun with a wide variety of fun scenarios
  • This is my first game review ever, and i'm not an expert on videogames reviews, but i love them and i've played them my entire life. With "Battlefront II" i decided to make one. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and i'm a big fan of videogames, and with the release of this game obviously i was very excited to play it and to know how the game was gonna play out. Specially because before that, i played EA's first "Star Wars: Battlefront"

This is a very fun game, is not the best game ever made, but still a very enjoyable game. "Star Wars: Battlefront II" is in my opinion a game that is very controversial, some people are gonna say that this game is really bad and there are gonna be some people that are gonna say that is very good, if i have to choose a side, i don't know where to go. I think that i'm one of those people that are in the middle. I enjoy playing this game, but, at times, the game became kind of boring for me and that is mostly with the repetitive nature that this game has. We are going to talk about the flaws present in the game later, now let's talk about the great stuff.

This game has some very awesome things like for example the multiplayer stuff and the arcade modes. I really enjoyed playing this battles as the clone troopers, or traveling all over the galaxy across the three Star Wars eras. Playings as the heroes and the villains in the game, is very fun to play and i like the control for all the characters. Talking about the heroes and the villains in the game, i have to say that Kylo Ren, Darth Maul and Rey are my favorites new ones, they are phenomenal. I love the fact that Billy Dee Williams and Daisy Ridley came back to do the voices of Lando and Rey, they are great with their voice work. There are some heroes like Lando, Luke and Boba Fett that, in my opinion, have improved over the past game "Star Wars: Battlefront".

The campaign mode in Battlefront II is very fun, the story surrounding Iden Versio and the Inferno Squad is very interesting. And the story is even more interesting if you are a big Star Wars fan, the experience is gonna be better for you if you are a true fan of the source material like me. The cut scenes in Battlefront II are some of the best that i have seen on a video game console ever. The graphics are fantastic, some of the best on PS4 with out a doubt.

I bought the deluxe edition of this game. And if you want to progress faster in the game and you want to have some really awesome skins for your characters, is worth the other $15 dollars. But if you just want to play the game, you are not missing anything special that will change your game experience at all.

Like i said before, this game has some flaws and some of them are: The campaign mode, is very repetitive. You only do four types of missions, the normal ones, some heroes missions, flying missions, and missions involving vehicles like an AT-AT, that's it. The story is very fun and interesting, but the gameplay is not that good enough. Another flaw that i have with the game is the flying controls, i don't like them at all. At least for me, it took me like 1 or 2 weeks to know how to fly well to not crash to an asteroid every second. Also the star card mode in which you get the card to make you soldier better in combat is very dumb. Mostly because you have to get coins to buy boxes that will give you those cards that you want. You can buy the star card if you want, but to buy it, you have to get another type of coins that are harder to get, and that is kind a problem specially with the players that are playing games like "Battlefront II" for the first time. Another issue that i have with the game, is that some of the heroes are not available, and you have to buy them with the coins that you get in the game. And with that you are forced to play in the multiplayer maps to get them, which kind of disappoint me.

So in the end, "Star Wars: Battlefront II" is a very enjoyable game, is not flawless but if you want to pass the time killing some stormtroopers as Luke Skywalker, you are going to have fun playing it. Battlefront II is in my opinion better that the first Battlefront game that was released in 2015, and i'm having a good time playing it. If you are a Star Wars and video game fan, you should check this game out, and i'm going to give it a 7/10.
  • Although i did enjoy it at the start it added a lot having to unlock heroes, but it was something new that nobody could find the right place for it in their hearts. 2 years later this game has taken a full 180 (a really good comeback) with constant updates, no microtransactions and months even years of fun this game definitely deserves the 9/10
  • I truly believe that if EA didn't rush dice into releasing this game early then it could have been one of the greatest shooter games. Sadly EA are just the worst company of all time and ruined the launch leading to many people leaving the game completely. Since then dice have done their best to fix the game and it's many flaws and I believe that they have. Battlefront 2 is great now and I do recommend it, it's only letdown now is it's lack of players.
  • Warning: Spoilers
How dare you treat your customers this way? Sure, argue Dice is just following orders regarding the micro-transactions but why are you releasing the game in such a buggy god damn state? .... Jesus.

Yet that is only the top of this massive pile of dung that is this game and its publisher.

The Good : AMAZING graphics. Superb sound design and cool, although underwhelming singleplayer story. nevertheless it has its moments.

The Bad: Massively unbalanced and pay to win. And thats not just lootboxes. Thats if you F'ing preorder you get a gun thats FAR better than your average gun that the dude who didn't pre-order gotta use for hours and hours as he's being MURDERED....BADLY.

Lets just skip straight to talk about Progression and Loot boxes immediately. So what exactly is this you ask in case you've been away for the past months.

basically the only way to progress in this game is by winning matches, getting currency and buying lootboxes with them which contain emotes, star cards and more.

What are the cards? They are basically unique traits you can add to your specific character or hero to give them very very overpowered benefits like 100 % damage reduction, boosts to survivability and more.

Now, why is this a big problem? Aside from the fact that lootboxes suck and are ruining this industry. YOU CAN BUY THEM WITH REAL MONEY... and thereby making sure you unlock lots of goodies much faster than other people. Whether thats guns, cards or heroes that are locked behind paywalls as well.

A paywall at 60.000 that was decreased 75 % after EA got the achievement of having the MOST down-voted comment on Reddit after replying to the guy discussing this topic about hero unlocking and time requirement ( it was around 40 hours per hero ..... yes you heard that right) to which they replied " It was about pride and accomplishment"

If I had to grind 40 god damn hours to unlock Darth Vader.... I wouldn't feel pride. I'd feel anger and frustration. Because during those 40 hours I would NOT BE ABLE TO BUY NEW GUNS OR UPGRADES BECAUSE I WAS SAVING... WHICH MEANS I'D GET REKT OVER AND OVER BY THOSE WHO BOUGHT THAT.

My god... the sheer nerve of making a system like this takes the meaning of corporatism to the next damn level.

EA can go burn in hell. The company deserves to catch flames for trying to DESPERATELY ( and impressively) to earn the Worst Company in America award for the 3RD TIME........

And Dice... you're just as guilty for getting partnered up with EA in the first place. You seemingly didn't care.

Its not like EA had a glowing rep back in 2006.... You can burn with them for all I care.

So now Dice say they wanna remove the micro-transactions ...temporarily.

You know why they did that? Not just because the gamer community freaked the hell out. No. because EA was afraid more people would refund the garbage they call a game.

So whats the plan now? isn't it obvious? They will remove it, then have ordinary people buy it... and earn their money back. And once some time has passed... and we're no longer focusing on BF 2 EA... they'll add them ALL RIGHT BACK IN AGAIN... and let the whales pay thousands upon thousands of dollars, ultimately ruining the game entirely when they suspect the heat is gone.

So what should you do, dear reader? You should vote with your wallet.

Do you like buying and playing a game where the richest person has everything and will get everything far faster than others? Then THIS IS YOUR GAME, pal.

But if you don't... and want a fair game where effort and skill unlocks stuff then you will not enjoy this. By the way, it don't matter how good you do in matches. The MLG gets the same points as the afking newb. Playing well is pointless.

Don't be fooled by this. Don't buy into EA's lies. Don't trust Dice's lies. They want your money. They don't give two sh$ts about you. Nor do the shareholders. John Riccitello pretty much proved that.

Vote with your wallet. But be warned. If you buy this game... you tell the shareholders its okay to pull this crap. And future games will do the same.

This is the year of the god forsaken loot-box. Its not remotely okay with me. But what about you, dear reader?

Vote with your wallet. Screw you, EA, for being so INSANELY anti- consumer and congratulations on soon earning your Worst Company award for a 3rd time.

"slow claps" You really freaking went out of your way to earn it...

Edit: Just in case this review wasn't enough to convince you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB2ouW2Asa4 Enjoy.
  • Since 2017, Battlefront II has evolved into what it was supposed to be. A fun, Star Wars FPS. People like SwanyPlaysGames need to get over the old controversy or when DICE developers delay content. That being said, the additions of Jedi Hunter and Leader of the Droid Army, General Grievous, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with Geonosis, and Fallen Jedi Master and Fallen Padawan of Yoda, Count Dooku/ Darth Tyrannus have given players and fans of the Clone War era exactly what they wanted, more content of that era. With Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One coming literally next week, the Prequel Era is ever expanding. The new, non-linear gamemode dropping in March with improved lightsaber combat. Leaked audio files have Grievous interacting with Padmé Amidala and Ahsoka Tano. More clone customization is coming I the game with Anakin also.

People need to give this game a chance now and not write it off or say "too little too late".
  • I didn't buy this at first because of the hate it got at the beginning. But I've had so much fun with this for about a week now and I just want to play more and more!
  • The multiplayer started out bad with microtransaction system but after it got fixed is an amazing multiplayer with added content. The story was bland it wasn't as good as a Star Wars story could be it felt more like pushed upon.
  • In the beginning, this game was no doubt pay to win. and disappointed many battlefront fans. Its controversy even made it to the news almost dooming the game.

However since then, the developers have turned the game from a controversial pay to win, to a fun star wars game that is just a great game in general. since 2017, they have a whole new progression system, a whole new microtransaction system, and have added a lot of enjoyable content. Heroes like obi wan and anakin have been added, along with villains like General Grievous to Dooku. They have a huge amount of Clone wars content. and have a lot more content coming to the game.

Sure, it still has some flaws, but the games graphics are amazing and its fun to play. My only complaint is the campaigns cliched story line, but i would seriously urge anyone to give the game a second chance, its worth it.
  • The graphics are impressive with astonishing attention to detail on the maps and characters. The skin variety for the characters is good especially for the clone troopers. The intergalactic aspect of the game is impressive with the debris in the air that forces the player to dodge around it while being chased or chasing a player on the opposing team. I personally prefer the Ground fighting part of the game where you are forced to find cover when being shot at and you have to find strategies and use different weapons to take down AT-STs and other vehicles. Galactic Assault and Supremacy can be truly immersive experiences with both teams battling it out like a classic Star Wars battle. If you are interested you can get the game from the PlayStation store . Sadly it was discontinued back in 2020 but i think it is still an impressive Star Wars experience in 2024.

My husband and I held off on buying this game because of the micro transactions. But when it went on a crazy sale we caved. I have not been able to stop playing the campaign. And we love playing co-op together. The story is fantastic (better than The Last Jedi). It gives you all kinds of details about the action on the periphery during the other films. Iden is a great character and I feel invested in her story.

My one complaint is that the menu is a little busy and difficult to navigate. And I honestly don't quite get all the "emotes" and poses... But I'm just a casual gamer.
  • Remember the old Battlefront 2? Remember how amazing and immersive that masterpiece was? This game is not even close to it. Sure the game is good to look at, it is truly one of the best looking games to come out of 2017, and the sound design is on point. I can't fault anything about the visual style, map layouts. It really does mirror how amazing the Star Wars movies look.

That being said, this game is trash ... plain and simple. The campaign is boring, with the main protagonist, being bland and not very memorable. The story is way too short, and they marketed the entire game based on how you will fight on the Empire's side, for like 3 missions. Really, that's all we get? So disappointing. But people don't play games like this for the campaign, its for the multiplayer. That is worse. The EA servers are riddled with lags and problems, that you spend most of your experience playing online, lagging around the battlefield, or have random drifts in your controller, all down to the poor game mechanics.

The game also has very poor content. Look at the Call of Duty games, despite those games dropping in quality over the years, at least those games have content to keep you going. 4 weapons per class! That's it? And a level 50 cap? You can get to that cap in no time. There is nothing in the game that has you wanting to come back, after you unlock everything, that's it. Nothing else. The lootcrate system is ridiculous as we all know, it seems pointless. Heroes in the game are just useless. Remember how good they were in Battlefront 2015? That game had its faults, but at least it was enjoyable.

Battlefront 2 is one of the worst games of the past 10 years, it is such a disappointment, and is one of the reasons why no one trusts EA anymore. They ruin everything they get their hands on. But I will say this about the game, its graphics are remarkable.

    2/10
  • The campaign maybe short but it's amazing nonetheless, getting to play as classic franchise characters, and a new one in Iden Versio she's an excellent character just lovely, one with flaws whose had failures and victories, a very real and relatable human, galaxies better then that "mary sue" called Rey. The multiplayer is pretty good too. I really enjoyed it and found it to play and feel like a Star Wars game.
  • When the first Battlefront game came out two years ago, it was a hit despite some backlash from gamers who complained of a lack of a story mode despite excellent online gameplay. Now just in time for The Last Jedi, Star Wars Battlefront II is out, although it's in the middle of controversy surrounding loot crate boxes after grinding so much. The controls are similar to the last one yet the graphics are much improved and the sound quality decent.
  • Just when you think EA cannot sink any lower, they do it by a mile. All the obnoxious features of a free to play game in a full priced game, essentially a pay to win glorified lootbox gambling simulator, the progression system is so confusing af and just plain boring and irritating, and a shallow single player experience to boot. This game is essentially designed to PISS the paying customer off, in the hopes of milking every last drop of mullah out of you. I am never, ever buying an EA title ever again.
  • jshmaweb18 December 2020
Theirs online and story mode With cool guns and lightsabers the game will always be fun

Raimini(Uncharted 3) as Del Meeko ,Anthony Skordi(The Black List) as Admiral Garrick Versio,Misty Lee(Star Wars:Battlefront) as Leia Organa, Matthew Mercer(Destiny 2) as Luke Skywalker/Kylo Ren , Grey Deleslie(Batman:Arkham City)as Maz Kanata Matt Sloan(Star Wars:The Force Unleashed) as Darth Vader,Sam Witwer(Star Wars: The Clone Wars,Star Wars Rebels) as Emperor Palpatine & Darth Maul, Dee Bradley Baker (Batman:Arkham City) as Bossk/The Clone Troopers,Temeura Morrison(Star Wars:Attack Of The Clones) as Boba Fett Matthew Wood(Star Wars:Revenge Of The Sith) as Battle Droids/Kyko Ren(Masked)/General Grevious , Mike Edmonds(Star Wars:Return Of The Jedi) as Jabba The Hutt ,Daisy Ridley(Murder On The Orient Express) As Rey,John Boyega(Detroit) as Finn ,Gwendoline Christie(Game Of Thrones ) as Captain Phasma ,James Arnold Taylor(Ratchet And Clank) as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Matt Lanter(Timeless) as Anakin Skywalker and Corey Burton(Superman:The Animated Series, Transformers:The Movie) as Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus

    Campaign:

What I really enjoyed about this were the characters Iden Versio and Her Squad , Del Meeko was my favorite character in the Game he was great he wasn't as Battle hardened as Iden or Hask Though it takes A Different Turn Early On it was great play with The Legacy Characters of Luke Skywalker,Han Solo and Leia Organa and few other ones It also Added so much to Star Wars Lore Both Past and Present and Even Had an Arkham Asylum-Esque Sequence also Having it will Tie Into The Last Jedi which I'm excited about and Looking Forward to The DLC as well

    Multiplayer:

Its so Cool to play across all 3 Major Eras Of Star Wars From The Clone Wars to The Galactic Civil War to The First Order-Resistance War plus you have multiple Options: Assault,Heavy and Specialist same Goes For the Ships Which Include: Fighter,Interceptor and Bomber also Heroes, Ships and Troopers can be Unlock Via Battlepoints also Like The Previous Game you can earn Credits to Unlock Extra content for your Troopers as well Heroes also The maps are Awesome Playing In Iconic Locations Like Yavin 4, Naboo and Jakku and there huge too

I think The Game will only get Bigger with Finn & Phasma DLCS as well Tallie Lintra's A -Wing as Well As Crait and D'Qar Maps For The Last Jedi Plus I think Many More Hero DLC will be Coming Such as Ahsoka Tano,General Grevious ,Obi-Wan Kenobi ,Padme Amidala and Captain Rex and Cody and Customizations options as well

Overall I think This Game is Great One The Best Gaming Expriences One Of The Greatests Comebacks For A Game 10/10
