“As you all know as fans of Bruce [Campbell]’s, he is known for his incredibly wide range. He can play not only people who look like him, but people who look and act like him,” quipped Dana Gould, creator of Stan Against Evil and former The Simpsons writer/producer/voice actor. “Bruce is a Renaissance man, by which I mean he is incredibly old. But he is aging like a fine wine: largely out of the public view.”

Back in 2018, Dana Gould (along with artist Chad Lewis), adapted Rod Serling's original script for Planet of the Apes (itself an adaptation of Pierre Boulle's novel of the same name) as a graphic novel for Boom! Studios, so it's especially fitting that Gould is now playing his own version of Dr. Zaius as the host of his own ’70s talk show in the second season of Hanging with Doctor Z!
Featuring Dana in impeccably detailed makeup effects applied by Andy Schoneberg, Hanging with Doctor Z kicks off its second season today on YouTube with special guest Dave Foley!

UFOs are often visible, but not always. Sometimes they make noise, sometimes they are silent. If you’ve never seen a flying saucer, that is proof they are everywhere. This is one of the many amazing things we learn in TCM’s upcoming table read of Ed Wood’s masterwork, Plan 9 from Outer Space.
We once laughed at the horseless carriage, the aero-plane, the telephone, the electric light, vitamins, radio, and even television. But it took a while to get the joke about Plan 9 from Outer Space. Written and directed by Edward D. Wood Jr. in 1959, it was a little-known independent film with a direct line through directors who carried on the DIY-filmmaking spirit like John Cassavetes, Melvin Van Peebles and John Waters. The Cult of Plan 9 began when Ed Wood was posthumously awarded a Golden Turkey Award for Worst Director of All Time in 1980. Though this has been disputed.

Dana Gould, stand-up comedian, writer on The Simpsons, and creator of the awesome Stan Against Evil, pens this Christmas-set killer doll film produced by Blue Ribbon Content, the company behind the Banana Splits horror film and Critters Attack!
Toys of Terror sees Zoe, her brother Franklin and their family move into a secluded mansion just before Christmas. While the adults focus on renovating the place, the bored kids find a toy chest hidden in the attic, and are delighted when the toys inside magically come to life. But bizarre events soon begin to take place – events that threaten the family’s lives. As the special day dawns with gifts piled under the tree, the body count rises and the blood starts to flow.

With Boys in the Trees, director Nicholas Verso spun a coming-of-age tale steeped in dark fantasy and Halloween. The festival favorite captured the ‘90s, but more importantly, it showcased Verso’s sentimentality. That continues with Toys of Terror, a feature written by Stan Against Evil and The Simpsons’ Dana Gould. Gould’s sense of horror-laced humor combined with Verso’s distinct feel for nostalgia-induced sweetness makes […]...

Pluto TV, the ad-supported streaming service owned by ViacomCBS, has added four new channels derived from AMC Networks programming, including The Walking Dead en Español.
Effective Friday, the 22-million-plus active viewers of Pluto will get access to the Spanish-language Twd offering, which features early seasons of the original series as well as spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. Also on tap are Stories By AMC (including past seasons of Twd), Slightly Off By IFC and All Reality We TV. Select programming from the four will also be made available on demand via Pluto.
Pluto’s approach to streaming has been to present viewers with an experience resembling the traditional television one, with live feeds, a programming grid and a large menu of channels. With an editorial team, it creates curated versions of programming available elsewhere, enabling it to largely steer clear of friction with pay-tv operators paying companies like ViacomCBS to carry linear networks.

The walkers are about to descend on Pluto TV — but they’re going to be even moldier than usual.
AMC Networks inked a licensing deal with ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV free-to-watch streaming platform, under which Pluto TV is launching a suite of four dedicated channels on Friday, May 1, stocked with library content including past seasons of “The Walking Dead.”
That will include a range of the cabler’s programming, including AMC’s hit show “The Walking Dead” (seasons 1-5) and later “Fear the Walking Dead” (seasons 1-3); the full series runs of “Halt and Catch Fire,” and “Into the Badlands”; IFC’s “Portlandia,” “Documentary Now!” and “Brockmire”; and We tv’s “Kendra on Top” and “Mary Mary.” Select programming will also be available on demand on Pluto TV.
For AMC Networks, the pact — making Pluto TV the exclusive free, ad-supporting streaming partner for its programming — is another way for it to monetize library content.

One of the many reasons George A. Romero's Creepshow continues to thrill and chill horror fans more than 35 years after its initial release is thanks to the makeup effects by Tom Savini (who also played one of the movie's garbagemen in the memorable wraparound segment). It's fitting, then, that Savini has been announced as the director of one of the episodes of Shudder's new Creepshow series, based on a story by Joe Hill, who played Billy in the film's wraparound segment.

“We are grateful to Dana Gould and our partners at Radical Media, as well as the stellar cast of ‘Stan Against Evil’ including John C. McGinley and Janet Varney for three unforgettable seasons battling the forces of evil and the most original one-liners anywhere,” IFC said in the statement.
Series creator Dana Gould announced on his podcast that IFC has canceled horror-comedy series Stan Against Evil after three seasons.

IFC is trimming its scripted roster.
The AMC Networks-owned niche cable network has canceled the horror-comedy Stan Against Evil after three seasons.
Series creator Dana Gould made the announcement over the weekend that the show starring John C. McGinley and Janet Varney would not be back for a fourth season. Never a ratings breakout, Stan Against Evil was a DVR standout and often doubled its small linear viewership.
With the cancellation, IFC's scripted roster now consists of the upcoming third season of Documentary Now, Brockmire — already renewed for seasons three and four — and the upcoming Sherman's ...

IFC has canceled the John C. McGinley-starring monster fest, Stan Against Evil, after three seasons.
Evil has won...for now.
IFC has canceled its monster hunting comedy Stan Against Evil after three seasons. Stan Against Evil creator Dana Gould confirmed the news on his podcast, The Dana Gould Hour.
“Stan Against Evil, I am sad to report, will not be returning for a fourth season. It had a great run of three seasons. It’s not coming back. Will it show up in some other form on some other network someday? Maybe. But right now, as we like to say, it’s dead as Kelsey’s nuts," Gould said in a very Gould-ian statement on his podcast.
Stan Against Evil wrapped up its third, and currently final, season in November of 2018. The show followed Stanley Miller (John C. McGinley), the former sheriff of a small New Hampshire town.

In an abrupt career change, actor Janet Varney is now a fortune teller in a hilarious new web series on IFC.
There’s a solid chance you want to outright abandon your current job as you read this. Wouldn’t it be freeing to flip your boss off as you walk out the door?
If you’re not there yet, I bet you’ve at least fantasized about pivoting to an entirely new profession. Let’s run off a few reasons why that is unlikely: 1) You’re mediocre to good at what you already do; 2) It’s a brazen and unnecessary risk for most ordinary people with bills to pay; 3) Fantasy is undefeated versus reality, and the fear of failure often keeps people from fully committing to a dream.
None of that self-doubt phases Janet Varney, who trades acting for psychic endeavors in her new IFC web series,...

Wait, wait, wait, Wait!!!
Did our erstwhile hero go in for a prostate exam on Stan Against Evil Season 3 Episode 7 and only never to escape Stan Against Evil Season 3 Episode 8 as the persnickety man we've grown to love?
Is that it for Our Stan Miller?
Maybe. Possibly. Probably. No. Yes.
This sucks. The reality is not enough people watch IFC for their shows to be shoe-ins for renewals, and Stan's ratings were down this season. Linear ratings don't mean a thing anymore, but I do not know what kind of online viewership the show attracts.
Related: Stan Against Evil Review: The Destruction of Willards Mill
For the cast and creativity of this gem alone, it should get a lot more coverage and attract a much larger audience. There isn't a single episode that goes by that doesn't entertain, sometimes to the point of belly laughs.
Interject the moments of genuine...

Stan Against Evil goes for broke in a near-perfect finale that shocks, amuses, and sets the show up for some major changes!
This Stan Against Evil review contains spoilers.
Stan Against Evil Season 3 Episode 8
“Stan was a very good man…and then Stan changed into something different…”
“Stan Against Evie” is no doubt one of the most important episodes that the series has ever done and right from the beginning it wants to prove that this will be an ambitious finale. This is a series that has run into problems regarding its overly formulaic nature and immediately this finale wants to prove that it won’t submit to bad habits here.
The episode starts off with an impossibly interesting cold open that’s set in the future and features an eager historian in conversation with an elderly Evie Barret about her past as Willard’s Mill sheriff. I’d say...

Stan drifts away into a hellish dreamscape and is forced to make a difficult decision in a visually appealing, yet uneven, episode.
This Stan Against Evil review contains spoilers.
Stan Against Evil Season 3 Episode 7
“Invite me in or live in this hell forever…”
Stan Against Evil has turned out a rather impressive season that’s largest downfall is that it can become repetitive due to its tendency to stick to a firm formula. A standard episode of the series usually has a deeper message to hang its hat on in order to elevate the familiar structure, but “Intensive Scare Unit” runs into problems when its deeper message is well-trodden territory within the series.
The episode tells a story about sacrifice and illusory worlds, which is not an inherently flawed premise, but it’s just nothing new for the show. Accordingly, the larger framework of this episode may feel regressive at times,...
