In 1980s Italy, a romance blossoms between a seventeen year-old student and the older man hired as his father's research assistant.
Armie Hammer first met Timothée Chalamet while Chalamet was in a piano lesson. Chalamet then took Hammer on a bike tour around Crema, echoing the scene where Elio shows Oliver around.
Malfada? Mom? Yeah, it's me. Yeah, everything's fine, I'm at the station in Clusone. Listen, Mom, can you...
Elio: Can you come get me, mom?
In the beginning of the movie, when Oliver falls asleep in Elio's (ex) bedroom and Elio is fussing around, closing the wardrobe etc. we can see two pairs of skis which look like shaped (parabolic) skis. These came gradually into use in the 1990s and are in common use now, but they didn't exist in 1983.
Although the movie has a full opening credits sequence, the title of the film is not shown on screen until the end credits begin.
