  • The brilliant quality of lighting, camera and direction in the first 2 episodes slides into overly complex plotting, hacked editing, and character failures. The last episode is truly awful. I suppose the budget ran out, all spent early in the series. That hackneyed ending was infuriating and insulting, just to continue the Hirtman-Lecter into another season; a very cowardly producer, sadly.

Watch the first 2 episodes, then pretend a good ending, and drop it. Or, get your teeth-pulling pliers out.

Ugh. What a waste of potential.
  • This series depicted spectacular winter scenery. I was also impressed with the quality of the actors, especially those who played the roles of Martin and Julian. However, the plot was overly complicated; there were too many strands that were not really connected to the plot and were not resolved satisfactorily. In addition, I was very disappointed with the ending - unless, they are planning a second season.

This French series in set in the Pyrenees Mountains; and opens with a strange case involving the killing and decapitation of a valuable horse. Captain Martin Servaz is put in charge of the case. The only clue is a hair found on the horse's head. There is a DNA match. This only raises more questions than answers as it came from Julian Alois Hirtmann, a man who is an inmate at a secure psychiatric facility... a man who Martin sent there for murdering a number of women. In the facility a young, woman doctor is keen to work with Hirtmann. Inevitably it isn't long before the first human victim is found. As the death toll rises Martin, and his partner, Irène Ziegler, work to link the victims to each other and to Hirtmann.

I found this to be a solid and enjoyably mystery. Many questions are posed and these are gradually answered as the series progresses. As seems common in these relatively short French mystery series it is set in a fairly remote, scenic corner of the country; the fact that it takes place in winter adds to the atmosphere. There is a good sense of tension and a few fairly shocking scenes, especially towards the end. The actual finale is perhaps a little predictable and appears to set things up for a second season although it looks like that won't happen given that it is a few years since this was made. The cast does a solid job bringing their characters to life. Overall a solid story despite a few clichés, I'd recommend it to fans of French crime dramas.

These comments are based on watching the series in French with English subtitles.

This show is watchable and living in Florida I enjoy these cold climate series, especially Norwegian and Finnish and German but this show is also annoying as hell because French police make basic mistakes one after the other which really make them look stupid. I was screaming at the tv most of the time because they weren't following basic detective protocol....ever. The acting was ok and most fulfilled their roles fairly well....no real standouts not even the leads. I dont think it was really miscast though just poor writing and scenarios they had to conform too. The story was plausable had the writing been better and more realistic....I don't believe the French police are that stupid or that they would have bumbled so much basic detective work and protocol so if theres ever a season 2 they need to do better research. Also, the end scenario was completely inplausible....spoiler alert....it is completely impossible to believe that girl could not have removed the facemask herself and also when are writers going to realize plastic zipties can be broken in minutes using friction. Yes it may hurt your wrists a little in the process depending how and what your ziptied too but she could have just slid her hands up and down on those bars and would have been out less than 5 minutes.....friction.....like starting a fire. Complete bumbblers. Learn your subject matter before learning to write drama....plus who vets this stuff for accuracy. Btw...yes police use zipties all the time and they are also huge beefy ones and only for transport and they dont leave you alone for any length of time so you can break out, they always watch you so you cant use friction. They also wouldnt use them on a suspected murderer or other violent criminal and they would never hand cuff a suspect with arms in front, always behind. So any writers reading this try and learn something here and if your plotlines require these types of errors then scratch your head a little more to make it more believable. Thank you.
  • I didn't feel too invested in these characters, they lacked depth and motivation. The lead investigators had no chemistry and the master manipulating bad guy didn't feel wicked enough. The storylines were well developed and the cinematography beautifully dark.

Watchable but falls down here and there. For example: whenever the gendams go to interview the supposed mad genius criminal they just shout at him demanding that he "must tell them"... I mean for heavens sake, it's completely out of character for an allegedly experienced and accomplished officer of the law to take that approach. Also the compete lack of security protocols in episode 4 is laughable. I'm sure we can all allow a little artistic licence to help a plot move along, but blatent bodges and fudges are just an insult to the contemporary viewer.
  • This series was one of the worst series I have seen in years. No need to even mention any spoiler to tell you how terrible this series is:

If the detective had died in a car accident at the beginning of the story, nothing in the story would have changed, but there would be far less damage to innocent people and far less achievement for the BAD GUY at the end.

The hero basically is one of the dumbest characters ever written in any work of fiction, and in a very boring way, with zero physical or mental intelligence. When you finish the show either you are a psychopath, have been identifying yourself with the bad guy and you would be pleased or if you are a normal person, the utter hopelessness of the hero that you have been tolerating throughout the series overwhelmingly crushes you at the end.

    Don't waste your time.
  • We've got a series with a good plot, but (too many) weak sub plots. The acting is good overall, but weakened by the sub plots and the constant tissues in Servaz hand.

The filming, environment and atmosphere are above average. By the way, where are the French cars? What's with the Subaro and Volvo?! Not credible.

They thought they would get a second season, that never happened, hence the illogical behaviors in the finale and the bad ending!

The cinematography is beautiful. I thought that they did an excellent job in casting. There is a lot of interwoven symbolism throughout the series that held my interest. I would highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys a good psychological crime thriller.
  • Gorgeous scenery, excellent acting, predictable storyline, REAL BEAT-UP ending but if you binge-watch (only 6 episodes( it's engaging enough. Have CERTAINLY seen worse!!😎

A very slow build to an earth-shatteringly predictable ending.

I like slow-burners, and I don't need car chases and explosions. Mindhunter has been my favourite series recently. But this was just too cliched to engage me. I dragged myself to the end just because there were only 6 episodes, and still felt I'd wasted my time.

It's got nice scenery, camera work, and it's quite well acted, but that's not enough to overcome the tedium.

There'll be a series 2, but will i watch it? Mais non, monsieur.
  • It wasn't perfect, and suffers from an overly complicated story line with way too many cliches, but overall, it was a good show. The acting is rather good, in my opinion. The guy that plays the Hannibal Lecter-esque bad guy Julian Hirtmann is excellent.

I enjoyed it, even if it was a bit corny in some spots.

It wasn't very original, but I was focused enough to watch it in one evening. it is solid 6.5. Yes, the story is a bit cliché but it is still interesting and entertaining enough, actually much better than other British (Happy valley as an example) and Canadian (Bellevue), where I almost fall asleep.

I usually enjoy international series and try to watch in the language of the country of origin with English subtitles. I am older now and find that actors talk at the speak of light and it is difficult to keep up with the subtitles. But I guess this is today's realism - mumbling and cramming as much dialogue as possible into a few seconds. But re the plot, it left a lot to be desired. I did enjoy the protagonist cop, Martin, but found the repeated telephone calls from the extremely annoying "Charlene" unbearable. She was always hysterical, blurting out one or two sentences, and always had to hang up. Her connection to Martin revealed at the end of the series was not worth the price of having to listen to these calls. And, at the end, she is hysterical at having had a miscarriage when she planned to have an abortion all along. And, Martin, really. Six episodes of nose bleeds? Take a blood pressure pill at least. Everyone's on them. Won't bother to comment on the villains who are disposed of along the way. But, there was a laughable segment dealing with Julian's hair found at the initial crime scene. The police only assumed one method of an insider obtaining this hair and that was by cutting. But anyone could figure that trace hairs could have been left on clothing, bedding etc. and any number of personnel could have had access. But, the ending has Julian escaping, running up a snow covered expanse with little more than a sweater on rather than take Martin's car. I do hope he has become one of the Frozen Dead and that there will be no Season 2.
  • It is a good average police thriller, however it moves slow. The real action takes places at the final chapters. Besides, you must be totally focused on the plot or your will get easily lost.

Watched dubbed version which was very poor. Overly complicated plot for no good reason. Either that or it's so boring you can't be bothered to follow it. Some nice scenery. Average acting. Zero tension.l
  • Great show. Looks like there won't be a second season.

I found the storyline well invented and twisted. I did not appreciate the ending because... well it really wasn't an ending at all. I also found the film to reference to a previous crime so often that one would think there would be at least flashbacks provided for the viewer to imagine. I actually googled to see if this was a second film and perhaps I had missed the first one. But this is the entire tale. It's a good watch and good mystery. Just missing a few details.
  • This isn't in the class of detective thrillers that "shouldn't be missed" but I found it to be engaging and a perfectly fine way to spend 6 hours!

Superb plot, stunning scenery, good acting..... much better than your average "troubled detective / cop / inspector / whoever" script. The is one of the best Netflix originals we have ever seen.... bravo !!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Lower your expectations. The series can give you an extraordinary visual identity, interesting locations, partially convincing atmosphere, okay acting and that's it. The script, story and characters seem unfinished and insufficiently elaborated, which unfortunately significantly reduces the quality of the series.
  • My wife and I liked the first couple of episodes, but the last four were incredible slow-moving. Every detective series has to mix pure detective work with some personal background. The characters in this series have way too much personal baggage, which isn't very interesting. We were glad when it ended.
  • Netflix may be making lots of rubbish for the English speaking subscribers but the lucky foreigners actually ARE getting their money's worth.

'Glacé' is a slow moving and ponderous mystery with many strands to keep track of. Unfortunately they don't all tie up neatly at the end, so I suppose a second series is on the way.

Everyone is up to something and they all have secrets... and there's lots and lots of snow.

    Thoroughly enjoyable six episodes.
  • I watched this on netflix,The trailer is in english but every episode is in french,(I knew this was a French production, just confused by the trailer.) maybe that was the better option. The story starts 10 years after the original manhunt and successful capture of a serial killer who is at this point in time is in a psychiatric unit without hope of ever being released. After a grizzly discovery the detective who caught the serial killer is asked to join the new investigation and so starts this story. It's pretty good, but can get annoying like missing obvious suspects and clues that could be connected to the case at hand, which at times can become tedious and drawn out to get the point across to viewers. Most of the characters go through wimpy scenes with overplayed emotions that just get in the way, especially when reading subtitles that vanish in a blink of the eye in certain areas, so you miss a sentence as they last less than a second. As is the norm these days, the main protagonist has his personal demons and only functions using a full flask of alcohol and unlimited smokes including extreme nose bleeds from tension. The last episode is basically a race against time bringing the season to a full circle leaving an opening for a season 2.
  • I thought this was a decent tv series. Interesting storyline that had the right amount of twists & turns, without becoming over complicated.

The characters were well written, enough personal elements to allow you to connect with then a little. Not so much to at it takes over the investigation storyline, which is so often the case in these series.

6 episodes mean it's easily watchable in a day or two. We watched it over two evenings, and we enjoyed them.
