This film is ambitious and well made, albeit a little long. The characters are interesting and well played and the film making is done well. A hugely energetic undertaking combining comedy and fantasy and most appropriate for the 20-30 something set.
  • I loved the premise of this film. An original idea very smartly directed by Alex Magana. I cast and all technical aspects first rate. I enjoyed this experience and recommend it to others who like good comedies.

A swapping bodies and lives movie that's really, really fun! Guess what? The grass is not always greener. The movie is silly, funny and oddly wise. Check it out!

If you like "bro" humor, this is a really fun movie. A twist on the body exchange trope with lots of laughs. Enjoy!
  • The body swap genre has always been somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. Although the majority of films in the genre are generally terrible (Freaky Friday, Dating The Enemy and others), they do often hold a pleasantly ridiculous vibe that makes for an entertaining watch.

When it comes to Slapped! The Movie, however, not only does it work as an entertaining body swap flick, but the film is also a genuinely funny and entertaining comedy, complete with a handful of great laughs throughout, and a fun-loving, relaxed atmosphere that never takes itself too seriously, as the worst body swap movies often do.

Let's start off with how the movie tells its story, and why it works so much better than many others in the same sphere. Above all, it's the fact that Slapped doesn't take things too seriously, and never gets caught up in any fantasy mumbo-jumbo, nor any overtly dramatic soul-searching that often drags this premise down in many films.

As a result, the movie is meant to be entertaining through and through, and given that it doesn't waste time with excessive drama or fantasy, and instead goes all out with a crude but enjoyable sense of humour from start to finish, it's all a genuinely entertaining and easy-going watch, something that I really appreciated having seen so many failures before with a similar premise.

So, what really makes this film work is actually its comedy, which is something I didn't expect to be saying at the start. Taking inspiration from fairly crass comedies like American Pie, I was worried that the film would be completely devoid of intelligence, instead relying on shock value and gross-out comedy to keep things afloat.

And while I can't deny that a lot of the humour here is pretty crude, it all works rather well in practice. A lot of indie films that try to carry off the same raucous attitude as big-budget Hollywood comedies really struggle to make you laugh, but Slapped has a good screenplay and a strong enough sense of humour to keep you thoroughly entertained throughout, even provoking a few big gut laughs from me at times, which I was hugely impressed by.

In that, it's clear that, as a comedy, the film works really well, and that success carries over to the fantasy side of the story, with a fun-loving and less-than-serious atmosphere allowing you to sit back and relax as whatever ridiculous antics unfold before you.

A final positive comes in the form of the two lead performances from Alex Magaña and Matt Lowe, who do a great job as the best friends that end up switching bodies. As well as having to carry off the personality of another character, their energetic and entertaining presence on screen always adds to the fun factor of the comedy at hand, and even though it is all a little crude, Magaña and Lowe play up to those juvenile sensibilities in just the right way to make it funny.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with Slapped! The Movie. However, if were to have one problem with the film, it would be that it's not particularly well paced, and the combination of its rather overlong runtime and lack of rapid-fire rhythm occasionally dilutes the raucous and raunchy comedy it's trying to be.

The best comedies of the same genre keep you laughing at every single moment, barely leaving a moment to breathe, but as such pulling you in further to an endless cycle of gags and laughs. This film, on the other hand, doesn't quite manage to do that, and there's often a little too much silence or waiting in between jokes where there's little to really enjoy. When the gags come along, they almost always land, but the film lacks a good rhythm that can carry you from joke to joke in a consistent and thoroughly entertaining way.

In the end, however, Slapped! The Movie does exactly what it aims to do, and does it far better than most other films of the same genre. A fun body swap flick that never takes itself too seriously, it's a film with great comedy and two very entertaining performances, meaning that you can sit back and enjoy right the way through.

A quirky yet funny film. I was not sure what to to expect but ultimately was pleasantly surprised. I would say this indie film is definitely worth a watch!
  • A great body swap comedy in a much more surreal style than classics such as 17 Again and Vice Versa. This will definitely tickle the Saturday night coming home from the pub crowd. Definitely worth a watch.

I can't believe I stumbled on this funny movie. I feel like it pushes a lot of lines but that's what I'm into baby! If you're looking to see an independent film that blows your mind, there's a trip out scene in the middle of this thing that I found to be particularly filmed great! The main characters are really uniquely good looking and seeing the difference between fat and skinny in a body swap movie is a brilliant idea!
  • I was intrigued by those precarious, funny, awkward and sometimes disgustingly gross life events that must have affected most all of us during those late teen and early twenties. I was never in a fraternity but I did enjoy making fun of those spoiled elitist frats. So basically this film was fun. Characters came across well depicting their internal emotions and reaction. Very cute girls, smart and witty dialog though out.
  • Hahahahaahaha is all I really have to say. Not the best movie I ever watched but definitely better than I thought. Lots of haha's in this one guys. Make sure to get Slapped! if you want to see a comedy that pushes it to the edge every single damn joke.
  • Not going to lie, this movie made me laugh at a bunch of things I've never thought I'd laugh at. In this world of social justice warriors taking over and going too far extreme... it's refreshing to see a movie made by people who obviously love to joke and have a good time. This movie is definitely a stoner comedy and I'm okay with that although I'm not a stoner. I was drinking a bit of wine but that didn't change anything for me. Great movie, highly recommend it!
  • Insane ride!!! Been awhile since I've laughed this hard. I feel like everything these days is getting so censored it was nice to see a slapstick style type of naked gun themed movie but in more modern times. Everyone did such a great job in this movie!!!
  • This movie was funny haha, not funny enough to make me cry but just enough to keep me going. Maybe it's because I'm older and don't find the raunchy humor that great, but it did keep me wanting to find out what was going to happen.
  • Wow, that's really all I have to say about this movie. But since I am being forced to say more I'll say that this movie definitely is long but worth the watch. It's hilarious and just..wow.
  • I actually just watched Naked Gun and Hot Shots this weekend. How crazy, these people that made this film must of been inspired by that. Definitely has a slap stick vibe to it while also having some underlying seriousness. I think some people might get thrown off by some the clearly rated R scenes or portions that push the limits but I find that to be refreshing in the current state our society is in about being so damn censored. Sometimes it's nice to watch something that goes beyond the normal limits of that box society creates. For the sake of not sounding like a complete stoner I am a teacher at a high school and do not do drugs. I think maybe some people might enjoy the stoner portion of this movie, I kinda brush it off. But I did enjoy the comedy a lot and hope to see more from this director.
  • I didn't think at first this would be as funny as I thought but within the first ten mins I was laughing my ass off and I just love this movie it's so funny.
