  • Warning: Spoilers
These are the "Teen Choice Awards 2016", a television production that took place about a week ago. As always they ran for approximately 85 minutes and the hosts this time are wrestler John Cena and actress Victoria Justice. The director is Michael Dempsey, a 2-time nominee, and he worked on quite a few of these events already. If you basically known what the Teen Choice Awards stand for every year, then you also know what to expect. Teens get to vote about their favorite actors, shows, films, performances etc. I have seen this event in recent years too and it was never something great to watch, but occasionally nice to check out and watch some popcorn, maybe even cheer for some of the nominees. This year's edition was a big failure though. Justice was entirely forgettable and Cena's routine was also not really working for under 1.5 hours.

However, the worst was probably how this event turned political on several occasions. Cena dressing up as Hillary and Justice as Trump was only funny for a few seconds and the "election" took cringeworthy to the next level. Needless to say who won, I just wonder if the Democratic Party paid for this stuff. Then there were statements against gun violence, which were in theory not bad and correct, but the way they tried it to make oh so touching and relevant felt very awkward. I like Jessica Alba, but she lost some points with me here. Other than that, the awards were fairly relevant. I cannot comment too much on this because I have not seen many of the projects awarded during the ceremony, but I strongly object to "Pretty Little Liars" winning anything really, because it's such an absurd show that goes for cheap thrills and offers nothing of dramatically smart value. And it was the usual problem that often it just seemed they would award whoever came and sat in the audience and also that there were some really pointless awards shown during the show while actually significant awards were left out and we just see a short note who won. All in all, this was a failure. Thumbs down.
