An entertaining series with a love triangle alongside a side story of one of them dealing with breast cancer. Two male friends both fall in love with the same woman who is a weather reporter, and she has to chose to be with the kind, thoughtful rich successful businessman or the Rude, arrogant, indifferent newsreader she has had a crush on for three years. I think they could have condensed it or shown more of the supporting casts back stories as even though they were often more interesting then the main story they were given little air time.

markapiec26 November 2020Dare to dream is a drama about love triangle in which we find 2 male best friends falling in love with a weather girl. First of all, it has 24 episodes though the content could have easily been squeezed into the standard 16. During these 24 and at time incredibly long winded episodes we follow 3 - most of the time likeable - characters, a weather girl Pyo Na-Ri portrayed by beautiful Gong Hyo-jin, arrogant, selfish but very attractive Lee Hwa-sin by no one other than Jo Jung-suk and finally charismatic, rich and very kind Go Jung-won by Go Kyung-pyo. Na-ri has had a crush on Hwa-sin for the past 3 years, unfortunately her love was (or rather appeared to be) just one sided. On shooting an advert in thailand she meets Jung-won who turns out to be Hwa-sin's best friend. They seem to fancy each other and Jung-won starts courting Na-ri in a bid to win her heart. While Hwa-sin gives them his blessing, in reality he hates the idea them 2 dating, while he recognises that Jung-won is a great man for Na-ri, he also realizes he has feelings for her too. The love triangle is confirmed by Na-ri's inability to chose from those 2 guys forcing them to compete against each other. So thats the storyline. There's of course more to it, but lets not spoil it all. Unfulfilled love doesnt fade away, and that is a truth. It is also a truth that unfulfilled love needs a closure, get over it, before one can move on. Slapping feelings over feelings never work and thats why this show has 24 episodes. 24 episodes is just way too much for me so towards the end i had to fast forward a lot. As mostly in all kdramas, main leads did a fantastic job, Jo Jung-suk is an actor with a big A who speaks with his eyes, he made me believe everything he was going through. The scene in the changing room is a classic. Overall a good drama, i give 7 out of 10, too long.

This drama has 24 episodes instead of the regular 16/20. Depicts the ultimate love triangle, with difficulties and choices not everyone might find believable. Main leads have great chemistry and the passionate kisses would leave me with a pit in my stomach. The main leads character, Lee Hwa-shin, is incredibly charismatic, appealing and interesting and his struggles believable and relate-able. This drama will deliver plenty of angst, frustration and is a tearjerker at times.
Definitely one of my favorites. 8/10 from me. -
nichapa-063009 March 2022The K-drama 'Don't dare to dream' or some known it as 'Jealousy Incarnate'. It is one of my most favourite all time K-drama. Like if I have nothing to watch anymore this drama will pop in my head suddenly. It is the definition of simple but special.
Story of love triangles of two best friends and a woman (sounds too boring). At first time seeing the title and the plot, I need to be honest that I was not interested in the drama at all because I think it will be the same plot and end up the same. After I watched this movie, it still be like that hahahah. Even so, I got something more special that is all character has the normal relationship as the normal person could have instead of the unrealistic love or flashy or striking one. Hardly find any characters in this drama who is perfect without hurting. Every each characters has their own problem ready to be solved. Additionally, both lead male and female work at television station as a reporter and weather forecaster respectively. There are more stories about their job which is very interesting.
It is undeniable that all actors/actresses here are all professional. Everyone is well-acted. Gong Hyo-Jin and Jo Jung-Suk, I have nothing to talk about both of them more than they are legend. There is one second lead actor Go Kyung-Pyo, he is so good at acting, so charming and great looks too.
And the last thing I love about this drama is soundtrack. It is so beautiful. When I have a night mare or not in a good mood this drama's playlist will calm me down every time. Since the drama is rom-com then the soundtrack is light, easy listening. Listening their soundtrack makes me smile like not to worry because Pyo Na-Ri's life is worse than us hahah No! I mean even her life is not perfect, she still can be happy with them and if you have a good attitude, then every good one will come to you.
I think if you just look for its plot or just one component of this drama, you will only find it's boring, but when you compound all components together you will find it special more than any dramas you've ever seen. -

All the actors act very naturally and I really like the scenes where they are in the office and all the conversations there are very natural and funny.
I like where the two ppalgang mothers who initially often disagreed became close. Their approach process looks very fun and funny.
I really like the relationship between Pyonari and Leehwasin. Leehwasin who initially did not like Pyonari became a crazy person to get Pyonari's heart.
To be honest i prefer pyonari with leehwasin to jungwon. Because, when pyonari is with hwasin, she looks more comfortable.
Jungwon is a guy that have a perfect personality, good looking, wealthy. He is a perfect guy who loves nari very much but sadly, after pyo nari knows hwasin feeling after having a one side love for 3 years.
Final word I give this drama rate 10/10 . I would watch this over and over without bored at all. Thanks to all the cast , producers and team to make this Drama I really enjoyed ! -
fake_moviestar31 August 2021I am not a fan of love triangles or jealous, petty guys fighting over a woman. That being said, I enjoyed this show SO much. The title "Jealousy Incarnate" is absolutely accurate, this is a show that is centered on a love triangle between two best friends and an ordinary-yet-extraordinary woman. This show was somewhat of a train-wreck, but also really well done? Despite have 24 episodes, the pacing is good and I was never bored. While I disliked just how extreme the love triangle was, I was super entertained. Probably the only thing that was a major con for me was the side characters of the sister-in-laws and the niece and her guy friends. I would have cut almost all their scenes, and in fact by about episode 8 I was skipping all their parts all together. While each of the characters encountered "jealousy" in some way (very in keeping with the theme) I could have done without some of it especially from the side characters, as most of the show ended up being fighting.
Despite all that, I was hooked up to the last episode. The way the show dealt with some really serious issues like health, disease, prejudice, jealousy, and love was really well done. And while the constant jealousy could be seen as immaturity, I actually though the relationships were on the more mature side. I liked the FL so much, much more so than her role in It's Okay That's Love (which is the only other thing I have seen her in so far). This was also my first watch with Jo Jung-Suk, and I can see why he is so popular. The acting from all the leads was very natural and the chemistry between the leads was sizzling.
Overall was this a great show? I'm not sure, but I can absolutely say that it is massively entertaining! -
krystalgucci19 June 2022Story is fine as it gives awareness towards Breast cancer. There is only romantic and jealousy scenes and those are too repeititive. Story should have been finished in 16 episodes but it was stretched till 24 eps. I enjoyed the beginning eps but after some I got bored.

PennyReviews27 April 2017A drama that was heavily promoted, ended up having 24 episodes length, had an odd story, but lived up to everyone's expectations. Wow, this reminded me of It's okay, it's love. The drama deals with the theme of breast cancer, how a man could handle feeling that he is loosing his manhood, and jealousy. The power battle in the channel was interesting, but the love triangle was the one who got the all kills. Probably, one of the best and most intense love triangle, with the guys fighting for the girl openly till the very end. The chemistry between the three of them was strong, as well as the performances. The side stories weren't that good, but nice enough to supplement the main story. Apart from the romance, the delicate issue of breast cancer was handled perfectly, as the characters went through all the stages of the treatment. Finally, the disadvantages of this drama was the odd beginning (what were those anime aliens??) and the odd ending (come on, that was cheesy!!). So, 8 out of 10.

berrydrops25 January 2021The characters each have their own unique appeal as well as struggles. I could emphasise with Na Ri as she is a sweet college who does her best at the given tasks, lives purposefully and is an ambitionist who doesnt give up easily. She, however, is a complete pushover for her three-year-long one-sided crush. The plot twist of the show was a complete let down. After scoring a shot with his best friend, who was way out of her league but treasures her regardless, she then goes on to cheat on him with the old crush as soon as she realises his feelings for her. This makes her appear easy and irrational. Hwa Sin only started noticing her after she was taken. She's treated like dirt before that but yet she runs back to him as soon as he wants her. The ending of episode 14 was hence a complete let down. It was also clique and predictable that the two leads ended up together as we would have expected from a typical kdrama rom-com. Considering the profile and capabilities of these leading actors, the storyline was rather underwhelming and silly. The show is a little bit on the draggy side. I don't appreciate the sudden cliche twist whereby Na Ri grew from this nobody to being absurdly popular with the guys. She also grew from this considerate loving individual to a total asshole who cheats on her boyfriend behind him. In the story, Hwa Sin and Hye Won quoted her as easy and she proved them entirely right. I obviously didn't bother completing such a silly show. I have to, however, give credit to the cast members as the characters in the show were beautifully portrayed and all the intended puns with successfully delivered making the overall tone light and humorous hence a 5/10

mrssarahsinger26 September 2023I really enjoyed watching Na-Ri s character grow , right up until episodes 15/16 where in the end i really wanted to shake sense into her and in my opinion it all got a bit silly from then on.
Why would she put up with the way Hwa-Shin treated her? I get she has no confidence but she threw away a lovely guy for that self obsessed, immature child.
Never have I disliked such a character as Hwa-Shin.
What a man baby ! He totally ruined the series for me. I just could not feel any positive or happy emotions toward him.
I could not bring myself to watch any more of his sulking tantrums especially when I knew the ending. So the last 7 episodes where completely wasted for me. -

Spunky plot and brilliant comedy scenes and dialogues.. kudos to the writer and director for making a beautiful romcom I have ever watched..

bbmura15 March 2024I've watched this one a couple of times, and my favorite parts a few more times. The chemistry between the main leads is very entertaining and so funny. Before watching this, I already had the female lead Kong Hyo-Jin as a favorite, but after watching this I now have the male lead Jo Jung-suk as a favorite. Kudos on the script and obvious great directing! All the stories are well acted and fun to follow, something I don't often find in most dramas. The threesome theme runs through all the stories, and the struggle to end up with the perfect two is enjoyable to follow with lots of laughs along the way. I really recommend this one for a good time.

Lee Hwa Sin (Jo Jung Suk), after three years away returns from Bangkok. He doesn't care much for Na Ri, but uses her tio get what he wants... to be main newscaster of the prime-time news.
Without knowing he falls in love with Nari, but unfortunately for him... she's in love with his bes friend, Go Jeong Won (Go Kyung Pyo). -

I read some other reviews as I was watching this and it almost made me put this show on hold after the first act. I am so glad I trusted my own eyes and feelings.
Sure, a 24 episode series seems daunting and for most dramas it would have been entirely too long. But the episodes were paced kinda like an American drama. There were extended stories and mini stories that all got to be told in a natural unrushed way.
Even if my criticism (noted above in point 3) drug on longer than I wanted it to, it was still important storytelling.
Now please, give it up for the supporting cast!!! I didn't skip any scenes missing the main leads because the other characters were just that good. The Ahjumma moms (looking gloriously hot at, ahem, 45 plus), All the news station staff (especially the hilarious boss), and the pasta crew (I would've even been happy with more scenes with teens too), and Naris adorable younger stepmom and brother. I loved them all!
Finally, the ultimate flowers go the breast cancer storyline. I understand 2017 was a busy Baeksang year and going up against Goblin, my personal all time fave, was a difficult task. Still I wish there had been room for JJS to get acknowledged for his funny, heartbreaking, charming, and delicate portrayal here. And don't even GET me started on Gong Hyo-Jin not even being nominated!!
10/10. I can't wait to forget it entirely so I watch it again for the first time. -
phd_travel2 July 2021This 24 episode drama should have been 16 at most. The length caused many repetitive boring scenes.
The cancer part is interesting not just because it highlights breast cancer and the treatment but uniquely so from a male patient's point of view. The other topic of this show is jealousy and that is funny for a little while but it gets old after a while. Gong Jyo Jin and Jo Jung Suk are fun as quirky characters in other shows but to watch them as the main couple is hard after a while because they aren't attractive enough as romantic leads. It doesn't make much sense why Go Kyung Pyo's character a handsome wealthy man would be so in love with her. She hardly seems worthy of being the object of their affection to such an extent. The side jealousy story of the two older women fighting for the girl is funny at first then boring.
The inner workings of news announcers is shown. Not that easy to read the news as it appears.
For CLOY fans it may be of interest to see the stunningly beautiful Seo Ji Hye and Kim Jung Hyun in supporting roles. She is so under used in this drama. It is strange how the men are fighting for Gon Hyo Jin who isn't that pretty when there is this goddess on the side.
The ending is complete. I don't understand anyone could love this series. -

From the start, the drama sets a tone that objectifies and belittles its female characters. The female lead is reduced to a frustratingly one-dimensional character whose worth is consistently tied to her appearance and her relationships with men. Her career aspirations and personal growth take a backseat to the constant focus on her love life.
The male lead's behavior is outright toxic, embodying jealousy and possessiveness that are presented as romantic. His actions continuously invade the female lead's boundaries and independence, sending a disturbing message that controlling behavior is somehow acceptable in a romantic partner.
Beyond the problematic character dynamics, the humor often relies on demeaning stereotypes and offensive jokes. Female characters are repeatedly made the subject of ridicule, portraying them as objects of mockery for their appearance or perceived shortcomings.
The drama's blatant sexism is further magnified by its glaring lack of female empowerment or positive role models. It's deeply disappointing to see a drama that not only fails to challenge traditional gender roles but actively reinforces them with every episode.
In conclusion, Don't Dare to Dream is a glaring example of a Korean drama that perpetuates harmful and regressive notions about gender and relationships. Its portrayal of characters, the toxic male lead, and the overall sexist tone make it an extremely negative and disappointing watch, perpetuating harmful messages that are anything but entertaining or acceptable. -
soulpianist16 December 2020Because of this series, I can't bring myself to watch another series of the lead actor here. I was rooting for the 2nd leading man. They should have chosen a less cuter and less admirable actor than Kyung Pyo to play that role, that way, it wouldn't be so disappointing tha the less cuter and less admirable lead was chosen over him. They made Kyung Pyo so perfectly dreamy here and then made him lose to a less dreamy and annoying lead. I stopped watching the series at that point. Tried to continue, but it was just unbearable for me. Sorry, to the fans of the lead and creators of this. This series made me an anti-fan of the lead man forever.

svgcryq5 November 2021Watching at the moment and in last few episodes. Chemistry between Jo Jung Suk and Gong Hyo-Jin very strong- they're very funny together. Go Kyung-Pyo's character is just creepy! He invaded her space right from the start and throws his money around- nothing attractive about the character. I've ended up fast forwarding his interactions and also the insufferable minor characters. But sticking with it for the excellent two main leads.

She has aspirations to be a news anchor and so have a bunch of other weather girls - one of whom actively sabotages her chances.
Let me say straight from the off - I do not like Kong Hyo -Jin - I don't think she is pretty or charismatic enough to gain the interest of two successful men - neither of whom she has the remotest chemistry with. Just looking at the picture of her with both of them you can see that she can't be bothered to even smile - she just looks bored and resentful.
She has no range of expression - no matter what she feels her face remains the same. I felt sorry for the first and second male leads who must have been trying to evoke some response from her.
The story is far too long to carry the weakness of the plot which consists of the attitude of society to a male with breast cancer. I have never found that to be so in my own country - but maybe it is different in Asia. I can understand a woman loving two men at the same time - people are different and can be loved for different reasons - but the line in reply to his statement "I love you" which she responded to by saying "me too" - immediately followed by "Let's break up" - was beyond silly.
Cho Jung - Seok is a great kisser - she didn't deserve him - and .Ko Kyung Pyo didn't do so badly either.
I found the sub plot regarding Hwa Shin's family boring - unnecessary and time consuming.
With a better actress this would have been a much better series.
