  • I only knew David Cross from Arrested Development (which I loved by the way), I had no clue he did also stand-up comedy. So this was his first show for me and even though I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning I quickly changed my mind when I realized what a genious he is. I love sarcasm, it's my favorite kind of humor, but I never witnessed a more sarcastic show as Making America Great Again. Absolutely everything he says is sarcasm, the kind that makes you think about essential things, truths that don't like to be divulged. After reading thirteen reviews on here (12 bad ones and one good one) I'm not surprised at all that so many people hated it. You have to have some intelligence to understand his sarcasm and sadly the world is full of dumb and ignorant people, which shows in the negative reviews. But everybody is entitled to it's opinion, that's how it works. Anyway, if you like sarcasm and if you have a higher IQ than the average caveman there's a high chance you will enjoy this show.
  • His topics aren't new for him or most comedians but he still manages to find a way to make em hilarious. Im sure alot of these negative reviews are from trump supporters or what not but the sandy hook victims material had me in tears.
  • When someone suggests that Larry the cable guy is funnier, I have to wonder. From my experience comics evolve, but slowly. They use the same themes but explore different aspects. David Cross is very talented and very funny. Do I like every joke ? No, but I don't like all of the music from my favorite musician either. If you don't like someone's art, then don't buy it. As he says in the show - if you don't like his material then maybe you didn't do your homework about who he is and the kind of material he does.
  • Warning: Spoilers
He's a profesional and isn't out to make sure you stay in your comfort bubble of bland thought. Think of the first time you saw him-probably a cameo in MIB the first. And all those years writing and doing improv with Bob Odenkirk. He's deft at handling his audience and hecklers. He's forever the thinking person's smartass. The McConnaghea impression is priceless. So is the dramatic reading of the Restoration Hardware catalog.
  • David Cross behaves like a grown up that still blames his parents for all the problems he faces in everyday life. His stand up is basically always the same thing, he just recycles it. He gives it some new jokes but it's always the same routine. Church, right wing politicians, church, church, church... If you don't want to be disappointed, just watch one of his stand ups and then nothing else, ever. This way you will actually enjoy it. He is a smart and funny guy but can't break out of a circle he drawn himself. I wish he would stick to just staring in shows. He is amazing when someone else writes his material. I hope he will entertain us for a long time, just not with stand ups.
  • While many of the things said by reviewer Caio are correct, i.e. Cross kind of drags and engagement is not always there, I disagree strongly with the idea Cross has a "rusty edge". Still there are, again as mentioned by Caio, the bait-and-switch jokes that really lead to gut laughs, the Cross-ish mannerisms, and above all, the wit. Yes, there are times in this where he becomes more preachy than in previous works; this is probably where most people will lose him and go do other things. Being of (mostly) the same worldview as Cross and having cut my teeth watching Mr. Show late night in the mid 90s when I had school the next morning, I hung around and was glad I did. Cross really is talented in elocution, and very whimsical in leading you in to a twisted joke in this special. If you can stay to the end, he always makes the punchline worth it. I was also impressed by one of his analogies and for pointing out some things I didn't think of (even in being highly political, myself). Speaking of which, one downside of his political rant was the exclusion of the Democratic party and establishment for their collusion in many of the things I felt he correctly pegged the "other side" of doing. I'll stop there as to not make this about my political beliefs, but will say that I hope he comes around on that. Anyhow, if this is what David Cross is like after an ostensible hiatus from stand-up, I must say I have high hopes for his future specials!

    Warning: Spoilers
Crappy feces. Shitty droppings. That's my personal feelings regarding this comedy special. I can't respect a comedian the same way I can't respect a media outlet when they greatly alter the spectrum of the reality they show or tell to further their personal or political view. I laughed at a couple jokes right off the bat, and I am easily entertained. Bright to dark humor anything goes. Make fun of people you don't agree with. But don't lie like an elementary schooler about how mean your pal Billy was to your teacher just to get them to punish Billy.

David Cross went off on a rant about Trump but used really bad and unfactual arguments. I'm not american so I could care less about the political landscape over there, but I can't watch this, I literally felt the fun draining from my body and from his show as the rant went longer and more loosely and falsely based.

I enjoyed his shows before, but was neither funny nor insightful in this special. A huge swing and a miss. With the exception of the gun riff, he relied on old material focused mainly on his smelly body parts. Maybe that is why none of the big premier pay channels picked up this special. Netflix will have to do better in the future choosing streaming material.
  • This is an odd thing to see. I don't mean Netflix producing a special for David Cross, but more so him doing stand-up. It seemed like his glory days were behind him and this sort of proves it. His topical comments on politics take longer to make people laugh compared to his last three comedy specials. You could tell the audience respected him as a comedy giant but the content was just underwhelming. His energy level is really low and keeping the audience engaged for an hour is just stretching jokes out. Honestly, I did enjoy watching it; but when I went to go listen back to his previous work, I was reminded on how skillful his edgy comedy was.

The tempo in his previous shows was at a steady rate. This time it doesn't live up to his career. There is always typically a time where an artist is at their peak. And it seems this is the point where he's climbing down. He's gotten quite rusty this time around. The only moment I actually laughed hysterically was one joke at the end. And what Cross does best is get people to laugh with his tone, cadence, mannerisms, and hyperbolic the minimalist bait and switch jokes. But you can't ride on that with just sub-par material. I liked some of the content, but at some point it was like he was riding a wave for too long without changing course appropriately. Usually David Cross' bits are very quick and the longer ones are multi-faceted or connect to another point to move the entire show along. The theme is extremely muddled and sloppy when compared to his previous work.

If you like David Cross but if you never seen/heard his stand-up before--I'd recommend that much more.
  • I'll admit, I couldn't watch the entire show. There was absolutely nothing clever about his presentation. He used profanity like a child...,thinking that would make the audience laugh. I don't know if he was supposed to look like a hick or a homeless guy but it made no sense. I suppose low level thinkers would find him amusing but I thought he was nothing more than a Clinton shill regurgitating falsehoods in order to promote his political agenda via the media. Maybe he should discount his ticket prices so the 'hungry and the poor' could enjoy a show and make America great! I'm quite surprised this guy has made a living as a comedian. His stories went on so long, I couldn't hear the end through the yawns. If you are gullible and follow liberal nonsense, you may think he's worthwhile. As a moderate free thinking person, I thought he was offensive, arrogant and boring.
  • Warning: Spoilers
about 1/3rd of the way into the special it instantly transforms into a babbling rant about how much he hates conservatives and Donald Trump and claims what he says is actually true... you can look them up and almost every single thing is a lie. there are zero jokes in the insane rant and its all just an attempt as shock humor. I had extreme difficulty finishing this "comedy" special
  • This review is going to be short and sweet because, to be completely honest, I don't have much experience in judging comedy specials. Usually, standup comedy isn't really "my thing", but if something catches my eye I'll watch from time to time.

A few years back, I watched what I think was first comedy routine to be put to film, and I remember thinking it was hilarious. he isn't for everyone, but I'm not too prudish when it comes to humor, so I enjoyed it.

As such, I saw this Special and decided to give it a try. What I found, unfortunately, is that it didn't make me chuckle more than a couple of times in an hour.

What a waste of resources that this was attended, recorded and published. If sifting with your bare hands through putrid, dripping, ten-day-old kitchen waste or city sewage is your idea of entertainment, then watch this.

I also really didn't like the fact that some bits were reused from stories he's previously told in interviews! Watching the special, I could point out at least 3 stories that I had already heard before on various talk shows like Late Night .he should be performing original content.

    Good thing it was free"
  • Jesus, even I don't believe in those God crap, I have to use this 'Jesus' word to show you how pathetic this guy and how bad his show is. This is perhaps the most boring crap that ever a guy who calls himself as a stand-up comedian and tries to fool people to go to his show, listen to his meaningless whining voice and waste precious time and money for his hollow blah, blah and blah. I watched this boring show and watched the audience trying so hard to make their money worth, their laughter were just so awkward, contrite, unnatural, hesitant, and so pretentious. They were trying so hard to pick some lousy moments to show some laughter for something this guy said, but those laughter just felt so dutifully clichéd. The topics this guy chose to deliver on the stage were just pointlessly hollow and uninteresting. I just saw a loser, almost like the typical white trash, kept whining away pointless, overly used old crap. This guy is an insult to those really good comedians who could use cynical jokes to deliver the truth of life. This guy? NOTHING! I just pity this guys' audiences, sitting in the theater, trying so hard to give some polite and lukewarm laughter. I just felt so embarrassed for these people, paying money to listen his crap.
  • Quite honestly, I didn't feel entertained.

I like David Cross but this just didn't do anything for me. A bunch of political and nazi jokes with no real punchline just isn't a good time for me and as great as his beard looks in this, doesn't make up for the lack of humour.

Sorry David, just wasn't for me!

The differences between David Cross and Ricky Gervais is that Gervais is honest, smart and funny. If you like the typical bashing of Trump and Republicans by SNL and Stephen Colbert, you'll probably find this mildly amusing. If you are educated and offended by bigotry and ignorance, then move along...nothing original to see here. David Cross alienates half of his audience by targeting them in political 'jokes' and then finishes off the rest by being genuinely not funny. He thinks he's an intellectual, but you'll honestly get more thought-provoking, hillbilly humor out of 'Larry the Cable Guy'. I couldn't tell you if his closers were any good because I fell asleep before them.

I have seen numerous comedians use material from a new special in a late night interview. The whole reason for the late night appearance is to promote a new show, etc.
