In the 18th century, the British East India Company is pitted against Khudabaksh, a "Thug of the Seas" fighting to liberate his country. The English, not knowing how to defeat him, call on a talented con artist, Firangi Mallah.
By February 2017, Khan had prepared his look for the film.

There are no cast/crew edits in the opening, just the production company's logo and a couple of disclaimers.
The Chinese version edited major portions of Amitabh Bachchan and Fatima Sana Shaikh's roles and keeping in mind Aamir Khan's popularity in China, it featured him in a more meatier and prominent role and also included certain deleted scenes featuring him to lengthen his role. The Indian version was 164 minutes long, while this version was 120 minutes long.
