Memory/Trauma/Humor
Fantastic movie about the insanity of memory. It's told very easy though. Not a French-hyper-realism (you know who I talking about) thing. It's fabulous because it's simpleness. Very simple. It does jumping in time but not to be cute. It's to confuse, I think. The main characters are all broken and either capitalistic or anti-system and when they meet up after years, they have a hard time remembering why they were so messed up to begin with. The use of dutch angles for present day scenes is cool too. (An old trick that sometimes still works) And then it switches in the past to hand-held camera. (I think this is to suggest foggy memory) There's a few different styles working here but I feel its success. I saw the directors work at theatre plays in Spain so I was excited to see his movie work. This movie is very pretty to look at and funny, even though it deals with the worst things that could happen to people, it does with love and hugs. I tell my friends about it when it comes out officially. I need to see it again.
