More stupid than scary

This is definitely a student film project. Unfortunately it's a very bad one even by those standards.

This movie suffers mostly from taking itself too seriously. And it uses every horror technique ever done by another horror movie. The mixture is too much and makes no sense.

The acting is so atrocious I thought they must have just gathered up some kids from the classroom to do this. No one seemed to know even the basics of acting. And the guy who was supposed to be a country bumpkin with a gun was hilarious the way he tried to do a fake accent.

This movie jumps all over the place. First we're in an old house, then we jump to a cave with troglodytes in hoods and an idiotic girl with a torch. Is it a dream or a flashback? Who knows? Who cares? It has one of those strange boxes that unfold kind of like Hellraiser, but that doesn't seem to have much bearing on the story.

Within 6 minutes of the beginning, it had the obligatory lesbian kiss that had no meaning to the story, but it might explain the high rating. These days you have to have that sort of thing just to get a movie produced.

I honestly can't see how anyone could have given this more than a rating of 3. Maybe all the cast voted it a 10.

All the scare shocks are typical of many low budget horror stories these days. They may work to get screams in a theater, but are useless for the story.

The underlying plot is just plain lame. It takes a little while to figure out what's going on, but by then you don't care for any of the characters or what their problems are. And it make no sense anyway.

For some reason they used a mooing cow as a sound effect. You could hear people in the theater laughing every time. At least it got a few laughs. And every time that girl painted black showed up everyone burst out laughing too.

Just when you think you've seen the worst horror movie of all time, along comes something like this.

Wish I could get that hour and a half back.

Bottom line: it's not scary, just stupid.

When I saw Uncork'd Entertainment was the distributor of this movie, I should have had the good sense to turn it off at that point. I love horror movies. I love bad B-list horror movies. This movie, however, isn't one of those 'it's so bad it's good.' This movie is just awful-start to finish. The acting is absolutely atrocious, some of the worse I've seen if I'm being honest. The plot of the movie made no sense, the ghost story at the beginning of the movie was convoluted. But the worst part of this movie has to be the godawful editing. It jumps from one scene to the next randomly and without explanation, making it impossible to keep up or image what the director's vision was.

Lol this is absolute garbage. They have literally just tried to hop on the band wagon for "13th friday". There is no effort in the title or in the movie. The acting is garbage. The story like is something from the 90s in the worst kind of way. And the director must have been high on cocaine at the time.

Places of Pure Evil

A group of young adults and girls with bare midriffs enter a house they know is cursed. Not much build up on entering the abandoned house that is pristine and clean on the inside and bam! The ghost is there right off and instructs them to kill someone every month, although the instructions were garbled and confused. It seems they contact a survivalist name Terry for help. Not much in the way of character introduction or creation. There is a neat orb, that is similar to the "Hellraiser" puzzle box. They open some sort of gate which triggers hell on Earth appropriately being in Texas as the Bible predicts. And plot spoiler "The spirit is a calendar."

Seems the script writer has a love for the number 13 which simply comes from the number of lunar months in a calendar year...almost. He creates a mysticism and confusing mess over the matter to give us an explanation that was all over the map and Roman calendar with a missing month, even though they added 2 months. The scenes in themselves were well conceived, but poorly connected. The acting was not convincing with the star Lisa May being the least convincing in the group.

Guide: 1 quick F-word that I caught from Terry. No sex or nudity. Cute girls with cleavage and belly button jewelry.

After the first 30 minutes of this movie I couldn't take anymore. Bad acting,bad directing..it jumps from scene to scene as if the movie is being rushed and we the audience are suppose to fill in the blanks because of the director's laziness to do so. How these sorta movies make it to production I will never know. Movies like this Give me even more reason to believe Hollywood and any of it's affiliates are drying up and running on empty with remakes.

The lighting and sound were fantastic, especially for an Indy film. The story had glimmers of something interesting, but it just plodded along from one event to the next as if they were following a storyboard and not a screenplay. The beginning and trailer were great, but then it seemed like a while different film by a whole different director/production crew.

It might have managed to rise above this if the lead actress wasn't so terrible. I spent most of my time wondering how she got chosen, especially with how many choices they obviously had, any of the other women on screen would have been better. I don't think I have ever seen a film where I was actually angry the lead took the role when she had no idea what she was doing. I'm usually very patient with low budget horror flicks, and forgiving, but this is such a waste. So many other films wish they had the talented crew and at least enough budget to make something great, but these guys seemed oblivious to that fact. A minor personal peeve of mine is in movies that are obviously done in English to reach the broadest audience, but yet are obviously foreign, and I wonder if something got lost in translation? Maybe this would have been excellent if done in the native tongue of the actors, writers, and location? I rarely write reviews, but this one irritated me to the point I had to lodge my complaint,, somewhere!

A Friday without terror or thrills

Was not entirely excited by the idea of the story (though with the right execution it may have worked in a moderate guilty pleasure way), with it being nothing new and with the fear nothing new would be brought to it. Coming across 'The 13th Friday' by chance and having an appreciation for horror, despite not expecting an awful lot the decision was made to view it with an open and fair mind.

'The 13th Friday' turned out to be one of those films that didn't really excite on paper but seen also as part of a low-budget horror quest on top of having appreciation for the genre, and didn't fare much better, in fact it fared even worse, in how it was executed. Do not take any pleasure criticising the film, but it didn't work for me at all in almost every aspect.

Some lighting was not bad and had some atmosphere, but that is for me the only praise that can be given. Especially when it was very difficult to appreciate, let alone enjoy, it properly when the editing especially was so confused and jumpy. Can definitely see the failed student film project comparison.

Audio is obvious and intrusive and although 'The 13th Friday' is not the director's first film it honestly feels like a woefully inexperienced under-budgeted directing effort.

One of the worst aspects was the acting, which is unspeakably dreadful all round. Especially from the lead actress, giving perhaps one of the worst performances ever. The script is horrendously stilted and the characters are not interesting or rootable at all.

Furthermore, there is no tension or suspense whatsoever. The film is far too dully paced and uneventful to be thrilling and is just too silly, jumpy and predictable to evoke any sense of terror. Some of it is not very easy to follow either.

In summary, no thrills or terror to be found with this Friday. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Bad acting, poor sound design, and weak writing. It seemed like the writer couldn't decide between two or three different things they wanted to do, and just mushed them together into one script, which wasn't even strong enough to carry off one of them. It made the story (what there was of it) often difficult to follow, and the whole mess came across very flat. Visually it was okay, and there was a surprising amount of women and non-white actors, at least.

The film is about a group of friends who unleash an old curse and they must do ANYTHING it takes to make sure they survive. There a lot of jump scares and camera tricks. The main "villain" is great with a decent back story. I wish to have seen more character work for the main friends, but I understand since there were so many people. CGI work was awesome, especially in the intro. I enjoyed it and it wasn't too bad for my kids.

Its hard to know whats what anymore in these critique sections. I mean sometimes there are family reviews and friend reviews and then there are hater reviews and negative bs reviews. I found myself in the middle which is where this film probably lands. I think it has been mentioned but as far as looks. It is up there with the big boys. They have the visuals down. The effects again.. top notch. So where does it go wrong? It seems like too much of a good thing. I mean the film makers must have said "hey forget all this making sense" lets do a great millennial horror. I mean if you are under 30 years old this may be perfect for you. Im talking the girl picked up a pencil and there was suspenseful hits and dings. I guess you cant knock them for trying. So if you like this type of horror then this little film is perfect for you.

Great special effects strapped to a dull story.

There are some interesting technical aspects to this film that are unfortunately weighed down by weak acting, a terrible script and some choppy editing. The film wouldn't have been too bad if it has fewer characters and a shorter run time.

A plus? An entirely Latino cast, which is a rarity for a US-made film. Unfortunately the director does not much with them and things get boring pretty quickly.

It wasn't at all what I expected but I gave this horror the benefit of the doubt. It was very weak script, acting and editing. I wouldn't recommend it, but hey - as far as most horror films are, it's watchable.

The only thing a bit different here was that the monster/ creature/ghost/clown (whatever you call it) attacks in the daylight. Rest is usual, repetitive, copied from here and there, done and dusted and still poorly interwoven. I went in with low expectation and was still disappointed. Wont waste more time on the review, only hope to save yours.

Cheap and Lazy

The 13th Friday Written and directed by Justin Price

Happy Friday the 13th. I wanted to celebrate the day with a bout of good old fashioned Jason murder. I have a billion streaming services I use just like everyone else. Not one single Jason movie is available on anything. Nothing, nada. This is seriously distressing. On September 11th, if I wanted to watch World Trade Center again, it was right there at my fingertips but not just Jason. Boo, I say Boo.

I had to settle. Regrettably I settled on this. The 13th Friday. Why it is called that, I have no idea. It has no bearing on the plot itself. The movie is about a haunted house somewhere in Texas where evil spirits reside inside of a sphere. Stupid kids with their red Solo cups throwing a party at the haunted homestead rile up the ghosts. That's pretty much it.

This movie stars no one you've heard of showing why this will be the only movie they star in. It is directed by Justin Price. I think Justin might need to go back and study some more because he doesn't know how to direct a movie. I don't think that will help considering this guy has made a ton of movies and they all look this dull and boring. There is no style in the framework. There is no attempt to create suspense or tension. Why go through the trouble of creating a film for horror fans to enjoy and not actually do it? Why open your film with someone setting their kid on fire and not have the means to show that? The movie is telling us right from the very beginning, this is going to be lazy and cheap. Hell the title tells us that.

The 13th Friday is a poor imitation of a movie. It wants to lure you in with its title confusing those who might think this is connected to the Jason films. The TV series of Friday the 13th is more connected to Jason than this is. It could have been some money hungry producer who knew what a crapfest this movie truly was and knew the only way to get people like me to see it is to title it similar to an iconic film.

Stay as far away from this as you can. It is not worth the time. There are a million horror movies out there that could use your attention. I prefer to reward filmmakers who actually try. Close Calls as bizarre as that movie is actually tries and gives a crap. Watch that one instead. I give this movie an F.

Major contender for worst movie ever made

Please don't make the same mistake I did. Don't let your curiosity get the best of you. I don't care if it's Friday the 13th - there is no reason whatsoever to watch this. You will regret it.

Why do I do this to myself? Uncork'd Entertainment produces features of even lower quality than The Asylum, and I've had the misfortune of finding myself watching a few at this point. I feel bad for those filmmakers whose works were picked up by Uncork'd simply for distribution, because their features find their name attached to titles that not only lack value, but suck it in from elsewhere and destroy it, like a black hole. There was absolutely no care whatsoever put into 'The 13th Friday.' Everything here is rotten. Tristan Price's screenplay is rubbish, with characters so empty as to be almost nonsensical, lazy and thoughtless scene writing, horridly dragging and unbelievable dialogue, and a narrative that struggles to get our attention, let alone keep it. It's at best debatable if the story is even coherent, as some story beats don't truly seem connected, and plot development is wholly scattershot. Price's direction is exactly on par, lackadaisical and unbothered so as to seemingly achieve the bare minimum. It's questionable if the fundamental arrangement of shots and scenes can even pass as adequate, and the cast would appear to have been guided into performances that actively spit in the eye of what any beginner's acting class would instruct. Although, maybe it's not Price's fault - it's possible that every actor appearing herein is actually just that terrible and unskilled.

I couldn't tell you what the plot of this movie is. One may read a basic premise, sure, but I can only assume that wherever one may find it, it was contributed by someone associated with the production (Price themselves?) who had insider knowledge. To watch 'The 13th Friday,' the narrative is so haphazard and poorly written that it's indiscernible. Makeup is absurdly overdone, costume design is tawdry and laughable, and special effects are flailing and specious. Lighting is inconsistent even within a single scene, cinematography is so flat and rough as to almost hurt one's eyes, and sound or vocal effects are downright laughable. Music cues are both overdone and so common as to be dull. Imagery that is theoretically intended to inspire fright is characterized by a lot of tropes, or plainly lifts directly from more well known horror flicks, and is never anything but bland. In the rare, fleeting instance when the scene writing demonstrates a small spark of what may possibly be a good idea, it vanishes or is altogether abused just as quickly as it showed up in the first place.

I cannot overstate or overemphasize just how egregiously putrescent this squalor is. Only a handful of movies immediately come to mind that are this atrocious (2019's 'A karate Christmas miracle,' 2018's 'Elves,' or 2010's 'The portal'). Uwe Boll's pictures are cinematic masterpieces by comparison, and even "mockbusters" like 'Atlantic Rim' or 'The Almighty Thor' are genuinely more well made. To be blunt, everyone who was involved in the creation of 'The 13th Friday' should be ashamed of themselves. Do yourself a favor, and avoid this like your life depended on it.

More of a comedy

This movie provides more comedic release than it does scares and thrills. It shows a cast of middle aged adults pretending to be teens that are plagued by a demonic device. Beyond that there was no direction of the movie, but there's an added bonus of a breasty Asian that has 90% of the shots, but like most of the movie she is irrelevant.

Dont watch not even a good bad movie

I normally like a lot of bad rating horror movies but this one was just awful. Terrible editing, acting, and script. Jumps from scene to scene so bad and doesnt really go into what could have been a great movie. Had a decent backstory to it but was just completely butchered.

Horrible acting (expression? they don't know her, they only know being over-dramatic), confusing and jumpy scenes, and nothing flows right. it's horrible and the "jumpscares" are both boring and expected. i only watched this because i got it mixed up a film a DECENT actor was playing in :/

Was really scared

We are major scaredy cats so I admit from the beginning that this review is based off someone who just jumps at anything! I literally was grabbing my husband after every loud noise in this film. With that said it was a thrill ride! We loved it. I followed the story just fine, I mean again it was about a creepy house and a girl and it was CREEPY! I love how everyone was bad. That was an interesting twist. All the technical stuff, that's not me.

Understandable

This movie was my type of film although I don't suspect that I will be in the minority when I say, I am renting these low-budget horror films to be scared and to be entertained. If you are here to be engulfed into some form of Oscar winning narrative coupled with outstanding performances, then this is not for you. No spoilers but the film is essentially a freakin beautiful thrill ride that never lets up. It lags in the beginning after a few moments of disturbing events. But once it gets going it's like someone pieced together a mosaic of all horror films and gave a platter of deliciousness. We were grabbing each other all night! I mean good Jesus was it fun. We turned the lights off and the music up loud and just enjoyed it. So kudos to the film makers. I am usually not a huge Uncork'd fan but I guess a dead clock is right twice a day!

One good scene

Justin Price also directed The Mummy Rebirth, Abominable, Elves, Wrong Place, Wrong Time and more, all direct to streaming or the shelves of WalMart films that you may not have noticed.

The movie starts with these words: "Somewhere in Texas is a house said to be so haunted that a church was built on the property and the family that lived on the house was never heard from again."

Sounds good, right?

Then a puzze globe show up, plus monsters in a cave, plus a grim reaper-dressed villain and the idea that if the kids gathered in that very same Texas house years later - which looks totally clean with no dust at all - must sacrifice 13 people or they themselves will die.

That said, as much as this movie takes from every possession movie and tries to be a Hellraiser movie - a good idea, because a lot of movies that didn't intend to be Hellraiser movies ended up being Hellraiser movies, so hey let's try and be a Hellraiser movie and see what happens - but man, that one possesion scene is really great looking and has some awesome effects. If that energy existed for the entire movie, I would have loved this.

There are two IMDB facts for this movie: "It's been said that Justin Price is very difficult to work with" and "Deanna Grace Congo regrets doing the movie." I'm willing to bet that Deanna Grace Congo supplied those facts. Then again, she's been in multiple Price-directed projects after this.

slow moving. monotous ploy that never reaches concludion falls almost into B GRADE HORROR

I had hiigh hopes for this film bit it see,s to drag along and become fixated with the narrative rather than a scary movie. we understand the plot in the first 20 minss and then the movie seems to run out of ideads of how to steer the movie forward. some of the acting is bad and at this point it starts to resemble a B grade horror. only some good graphics and fast paced ending recover it from imminent disaster. 4/10 ratings from most are a fair award and better script writer who could have made this an excellent horror. still dont know half the story aftter wasting an hour the movie just ends. for horror fans only. Beyond awful!

I knew I should've left this after the first half, but I didn't, and it is worse than I ever expected. It has no real ending. It is just stupid.
