Kiko Loureiro is extending his absence from Megadeth and will remain away from the band during its “heavier touring schedule” in 2024.
The Brazilian guitarist initially sat out the fall leg of Megadeth’s 2023 tour due to “family reasons.” Finnish axeman Teemu Mäntysaari filled in as a replacement and will retain that role for the upcoming tour dates.
Loureiro issued a statement on Instagram regarding his continued absence:
“Dear Megadeth fans, I want to share with you a decision that hasn’t been easy for me.
In September, I had to step away from the U.S. leg of the tour for family reasons. Looking ahead, during 2024, we anticipate an even heavier touring schedule for Megadeth. After thorough reflection and discussions with Dave Mustaine and Megadeth’s management, we have collectively agreed that it is the right move to extend my absence. A Christmas miracle turns macabre in time-bending holiday horror It’s A Wonderful Knife. Written by screenwriter remixologist Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and directed by Tyler Macintyre (Tragedy Girls), this snowy slasher bends the bones of Frank Capra’s heart-warming It’s a Wonderful Life (1947) into a stalk & slash tale of hell on earth and ill will toward the inhabitants of an idyllic mountain town. It’s a very on-the-nose re-imagining of the holiday classic that delivers its biggest gifts in the first act but features some silly characters and a send-up of every painfully charming Christmas movie already flooding streaming platforms.
The premise alone is enough to intrigue any modern horror fan. It’s A Wonderful Life is such a celebrated classic that you don’t actually have to have seen it to know everything about it. It’s been spoofed and lampooned for so long that’s it’s just...

Fourteen years ago during the eighth season of Fox’s “American Idol,” Simon Cowell was one of the people who judged aspiring singer Adam Lambert on a weekly basis. Even though Simon critiqued Adam early on for being too theatrical, Simon soon became one of his biggest supporters. “Over the entire season, you’ve been one of the best, most original contestants we’ve ever had on the show,” the British judge declared during that show’s 2009 finale. “The hope and whole idea of a show like this is to find a worldwide star, and I truly believe we’ve found that in you.”
Flash-forward to 2023, and the two popular personalities reunited during the season finale of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars.” Simon was seated at the judges’ desk (next to Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel), while Adam was up on the big stage performing his version of “Chandelier...

Winner of the first edition of the First Film Initiative (you can read all about it in this article), alongside “Mad World” and “Opus 1”, “Weeds on Fire” is based upon a real but almost forgotten story. In 1984, the Sino-British Joint Declaration was signed and Hong Kong’s future became more obscure. In that same year, the first local youth league baseball team was found in Shatin, one of Hong Kong’s new (at the time) towns, which ended up almost like a ghetto during the next decades. The name of the team was Shatin Martins, and its creation was the outcome of the efforts of a middle school principal named Lo, who petitioned the local school board for funds for a baseball team.

The higher the intensity of a trailer, the slower the song that accompanies it. This may seem fairly recent as a reliable rule, but it’s not a completely new phenomenon. What goes back at least to the 2001 trailer for the first iteration of Xbox 360’s apocalyptic warfare video game Gears of War — with Gary Jules delivering a heart-ripping cover of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” — is an visual-aural contrast that’s now common practice.
More recent examples of the trend include FJØRA’s echoey take on the 4 Non Blondes perennial “What’s Up?” in the terrifying trailer for 2020’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse”; Lana Del Rey’s creepy version of “Once Upon a Dream,” from the classic Disney animated film “Sleeping Beauty,” in the trailer for 2014’s “Maleficent”; and ConfidentialMX featuring Becky Hanson’s operatic interpretation of the Bee Gees’ “I Started a Joke” in the dark trailer for 2016’s “Suicide Squad.

Newcomer Hong Kong director Jun Li decided to begin his career in feature movies with a “bang” and a big pink wig on the head of one of the most recognisable Hong Kong actors. What a way to start! Aided by seasoned scriptwriter Shu Kei and Herman Yau’s regular collaborator Erica Li, Jun Li has co-scripted and directed “Tracey”, where he frankly introduces a transgender character and follows her struggle on the path to happiness and self-discovery.

“Mother Tongue,” a suspense thriller directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Mike Figgis starts shooting in Hong Kong this week. It stars and is produced by actor-singer-producer Josie Ho.
Figgis and Ho will hold a start-of production ceremony Wednesday at Hong Kong’s Shaw Studios. Production is expected to last until April with the completed film having set a tentative release schedule in January 2022.

Hong Kong, as a place and symbol, has transformed over the last century. As first a British colony and then a Special Administrative Region in China, Hong Kong has retained its unique identity as a site where influences from the East and West intermingle to shape its iconic skyline. Nowhere is the indelible personality of Hong Kong architecture more evident than in its housing, itself the basis for countless classic Hong Kong films. While the topic may not be new, the question of what home looks like in Hong Kong, both for its citizens and its cinema, has gained newfound resonance in the 21st Century.
This question frames the presentation of Home in Hong Kong, a season highlighting various films from the last decade. Through different historical eras and wildly disparate genres, these films traverse from tenement housing to upscale penthouse apartments, to pose greater questions about how we define the word “home”. Above all,...

Say this for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”: The expansiveness of its music-rights budget is to be admired.
In the pilot, Zoey (Jane Levy) hears the inner thoughts of those around her, as expressed through a group performance of the Beatles’s “Help!” It’s a splashy statement of purpose for a show whose willingness to spend on big-name songs covers over some other sins. Zoey can hear what’s going on inside anyone she meets put to music, but the fact that those songs come from the familiar songbook of big, broadly recognizable emotions limits just how much complication or shading the show can achieve. People around Zoey are enamored, or happy, or really sad; they’re too rarely anything that would take more than a couple of words to describe, anything that merits a lengthy musical performance. The ambitions of “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” seem, in its early going,...

Wong Chun tackles a rather difficult theme in his debut, as he deals with bipolar disorder, in a low budget film that has already received a number of awards, both Chinese and international.

The story revolves around Wong Sai-Tung, a man who suffers from bipolar disorder and has just been released from the mental hospital. Tung was committed there after an accident involving his mother, an abusive woman with mobility issues, whom everyone else in the family has abandoned, including his father. Furthermore, the frustration from his dealings with his mother had an impact to his relationship with his fiancée, Jenny, who had to deal with his violent outbursts and currently, with the debts he left her for the apartment they were living, when he was committed. Michelle Zauner, a.k.a. Japanese Breakfast, is now one of the hundreds of artists who have covered Tears for Fears’ “Head Over Heels.” Released off W Records, an imprint of W Hotels, the cover is the second of Zauner’s two singles off the label — her original song “Essentially” was released last month. Portions of the proceeds from both singles will benefit the Aclu.
Glossed in delicate synth-y vocals, the cover gives the 1985 New Wave hit a dream-pop makeover. “Something happens and I’m head over heels,” she sings gently.

Kris Allen who?
Ever since I learned that “American Idol” was recruiting Adam Lambert to coach the Top 8 contestants on the art of performing Queen songs on April 28, I’ve been hungry to hear the Season 8 runner-up perform live himself on the show. Yes, he is expected to do so on the finale on May 19. But that is too long to wait.
Lambert, who nailed his spot on “Idol” 10 years ago by singing “Bohemian Rhapsody,” ended up sharing the stage with Queen on that year’s finale. It served as an audition of sorts, with the glam belter becoming the touring frontman for Queen + Adam Lambert in 2011.
At least ABC and the producers of the long-running talent contest are savvy enough to take advantage of the wave of Queen fever that took hold after the astounding global box-office success of four-time Oscar-winning biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” whose star Rami Malek took...

Ten years ago Adam Lambert took the stage during Top 8 week of “American Idol” and gave a haunting performance of “Mad World” that’s still making fans cry to this day. Adam’s stripped-down rendition of the Tears for Fears song from the April 7, 2009 episode is considered by many to be one of the best in the history of the reality TV show. It helped propel the wide-eyed 27-year-old all the way to second place, where he ultimately lost to Kris Allen. Watch the “American Idol” flashback video above.

Even though he lost the title of “American Idol,” the past decade has been quite kind to Adam with killer record sales and many acting gigs (including a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in “Bohemian Rhapsody”). Oh, and did we mention he’s now the front-man of Queen?...

Adam Lambert, the only “American Idol” contestant to ever receive a standing ovation from grumpy judge Simon Cowell, will return to the show on April 28 to mentor the Top 8 contestants. If you haven’t guessed already, the runner-up on Season 8 will tutor the hopefuls when they tackle Queen‘s catalog.
And, even better, we will get to enjoy a Lambert performance on May 19 on the finale show.
Lambert, who secured a spot on “Idol” in 2009 by singing “Bohemian Rhapsody,” ended up performing with Queen on that year’s finale when Kris Allen was a winner. Even he said at the time, “Adam deserved this.” But the singer whose version of “Mad World” that season was one for the ages has gone on to be the touring frontman for Queen + Adam Lambert.

Tuesday’s results show for “The Voice” promises surprising eliminations, steals and saves. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton face a situation they’ve never had before following Monday’s first ever Cross Battles round. Which of their artists will even be around for the Top 24 show in just two weeks?
As of this afternoon, there were 32 contestants remaining, but that will change tonight. Voters throughout America have been voting for the past 24 hours for their favorites in the eight battles from Monday evening. Eight losers could go home, but each coach has one steal (from another team) and one save (from their own team) that can be used tonight or next Tuesday night. The Emmy-winning program on NBC is hosted by Carson Daly.
Here is a full list of the 16 contenders who performed last night and are waiting on the public vote tonight:

Days before “The Voice” debuted its brand new round of competition known as the live Cross Battles, fans were excited about the concept. Instead of the usual Knockout rounds, these Cross Battles pit two artists from different teams against each other on live television with the at-home audience voting their favorites into the Finals. Now that we’ve seen the Cross Battles in action, do you think NBC should keep them as a permanent part of the reality TV show, or should they nix the idea going forward? Vote in our poll below.

Fresh Wave Alumni includes Jevons Au of “Ten Years” and “Trivisa” and “Distinction”, and Wong Chun of multi-awarded “Mad World”.
A “veteran” of Fresh Wave, Hing Weng Eric Tsang has participated in different roles to many editions. Last year he was the Dop behind his friend’s Jun Li’s short “Liu Yang He” that won the Fresh Wave Open Division Best Film Award. North Carolina punk stalwarts Superchunk teamed with Fucked Up singer Damian Abraham for a new song, “Our Work Is Done.” The track was released via Merge Records as a limited edition seven-inch single with proceeds benefitting Bill McKibben’s climate change organization, 350.org. The b-side boasts a cover of Klaus Nomi’s “Total Eclipse.”

On their 2015 breakthrough, Blurryface, Twenty One Pilots were the ultimate post-Spotify rock band, flickering wildly through ideas and genre: Tyler Joseph’s vein-spilling emo rap, Josh Dun’s funky-hard Travis Barker drums, tweaks of electronic music and reggae, twee ukulele indie, the grandeur of a Broadway musical and existential lyrics with a metatextual flair. Think a modern Sublime doing Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life.

Lily Allen offered a soulful spin on Tears for Fears’ 1983 single “Mad World” in a new cover version recorded for Spotify’s Singles series.
The British pop singer stripped back the song to vocals and a mournful piano part, recalling the bare-bones aesthetic of the rendition that Gary Jules and Michael Andrews recorded for the 2001 fantasy film Donnie Darko. Allen paired the tune with a similarly raw take on “Family Man,” which appears on her recently issued fourth LP, No Shame.

Upbeat Hong Kong stories that bring audience laughter and optimism rather than highly stylized dramas about heavy subjects could be the antidote for an industry struggling with its identity in the post-handover era, according “Men on the Dragon” director Sunny Chan.
The local drama has garnered more than Hk$9.5 million ($1.2 million) since its Aug. 2 release. Produced by One Cool Picture, and directed Chan, a long-time screenwriter making his directorial debut, “Men on the Dragon” is the best-performing Hong Kong movie locally this summer.
“Men on the Dragon,” a seemingly ordinary story about middle-age men taking part in a company dragon boat race to avoid being sacked, has received strong word-of-mouth among not only critics but general audiences who have complimented the movie on social media for its positive message amid the ongoing political turmoil in Hong Kong.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials were, hands down, one of the most beautiful royal weddings we've ever seen! Between the couple's emotional vows and Meghan's opulent gown, there were so many precious moments to obsess over. Oh, and let's not forget about the adorable wedding party! The group consisted of six bridesmaids and four pageboys, and it just so happens that three of the children share a special connection with Harry. Zalie Warren, Florence van Cutsem, and Jasper Dyer are all Harry's godchildren.
In an interview for The Telegraph's podcast Mad World back in April 2017, Harry opened up about how he practices being a dad with his godchildren. "I'm a godfather to quite a few of my friends' [kids]," he said. "Um, actually only five or six." While it's still unclear who the other two or three godchildren are, Harry did say that he's a good godfather. "I...

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage... That's the plan for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who reportedly stopped using protection a month before their royal wedding. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are more than ready to start a family of their own — and have been trying since tying the knot. "Harry asked Meghan to ‘take out the goalie,’ a cheeky football joke about going off her birth control and removing any protection they have from her getting pregnant," a royal insider told Hollywood Life. "They actually stopped using protection over a month ago, although they abstained from sex in the weeks leading up to the wedding. So on their wedding night the baby-making sex really got started. They are both excited about having children as soon as possible." Tmi, but we're here for it. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Prince Harry, 33, and Meghan,...

Last month’s Hong Kong Film Awards was on a special mission. In addition to the usual star-studded glamour, the event was literally a stage for newcomers. Lesser-known young actors were given the opportunity to present awards as well as giving speeches to introduce the best film contenders to the audience.
The event, with 37 years of history behind it, has never felt so young and refreshing.
The special treatment given to the young actors was seen as a response to a crisis of the Hong Kong film industry. As established stars ranging from Chow Yun-fat and Andy Lau to international action heroes Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen age well into their 50s and 60s, there’s no new generation of local younger stars to follow in their footsteps.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “New Girl” Season 7, Episode 4 “Where the Road Goes.”]
“New Girl” has spent its final season covering a lot of ground. The three-year time jump in the premiere pushed several stories forward, which includes the ongoing relationship between Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a child for Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone), and one on the way for Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Aly (Nasim Pedrad). Because of this fast-forwarding, the show has also been filling in the blanks of what happened during those three years.
On Tuesday’s episode, “Where the Road Goes,” the gang braves the rain and travels in a motorcade to a cemetery for a service for Winston’s beloved cat Furguson. It’s not a funeral but a memorial, performed according to Jewish tradition, to honor his passing a year before. Because apparently, Furguson was one of the Chosen People.
