The Slam poetry featured in the film have been written specially for the film by famous Australian spoken word poet and performer Candy Royalle who unfortunately passed away in June 2018. Candy was a Palestinian-Lebanese queer woman who was ferocious on stage, offering audiences a heady mix of lesbian sexual liberation and searing anti-colonial orations.
Rebecca Breeds who plays a six month pregnant, Sally in Slam practiced wearing a prosthetic bump for months in everyday life in New York (where she lives). The only time she was caught out was when she went into a shoe shop to try out a pair of very high heels.
Actor & filmmaker Damian Hill, best known as writer, producer and star of indie film Pawno, aged 42, who played the character of Shane in Slam passed away in September 2018.
