In a new “Teen Vogue” Firsts interview, “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams revealed that she thought her character Arya Stark was queer.
Williams expressed this opinion while describing the first time her character surprised her.
“The first time that I was surprised by Arya I guess was probably in the final series where she whips off her clothes and sleeps with Gendry,” she said. “I thought that Arya was queer, you know? So… yeah. That was a surprise.”
The love scene between Arya and Gendry takes place at the beginning of the show’s eighth and final season. Many interpreted Arya’s decision to have sex with Gendry as a live-in-the-moment type decision because the Battle of Winterfell was approaching and she wasn’t sure she would survive.
Arya does end up surviving that battle, but singer Ed Sheeran, who made a Got cameo in a scene with Arya,...

Channel 5, Fable Pictures, and Sony Pictures Television have released a first-look image of Queen & Slim actress Jodie Turner-Smith as Anne Boleyn in their convention-busting series on the Tudor monarch.
The three-part series, first revealed by Deadline, will examine the downfall of Boleyn through the prism of a psychological thriller rather than a stuffy period drama retreading the demise of King Henry VIII’s second wife.
Penned by newcomer Eve Hedderwick Turner, Anne Boleyn shines a feminist light on the final months of Boleyn’s life, re-imagining her struggle with Tudor England’s patriarchal society, her desire to secure a future for her daughter, Elizabeth, and the brutal reality of her failure to provide Henry with a male heir.
Vogue, which was first with the stills of Turner-Smith in character, spoke to her about taking on the iconic role. She said: “There’s so much about her story that feels modern.

There’s a new queen in town.
Variety can reveal the first look of “Queen & Slim” actor Jodie Turner-Smith as Tudor queen Anne Boleyn — the most notorious of Henry VIII’s wives, best known for her untimely demise by execution — in three-part psychological thriller “Anne Boleyn” for ViacomCBS-backed U.K. broadcaster Channel 5. The show wrapped production on location in Yorkshire in December, and is set to air later this year.
Produced by Fable Pictures and Sony Pictures Television, “Anne Boleyn” garnered headlines last year for Turner-Smith’s casting, which marks one of a handful of times a Black actor has portrayed a major royal figure on a British terrestrial broadcaster. More recently, Sophie Okonedo played Queen of England Margaret, who was married to Henry VI, in the BBC’s “The Hollow Crown.” She starred opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.

1973’s Yom Kippur War is the focal point for HBO Max’s upcoming original series, “Valley of Tears.” Instead of creating a large scale approach to warfare, the creators—Ron Leshem, Amit Cohen, Yaron Zilberman, and Daniel Amse—are highlighting individual character arcs. The selected roles each draw attention to a seemingly forgotten segment of the conflict. Prominent aspects of the series include: “a famous bohemian television star in search of his estranged son, a newly enlisted soldier; a commander and his newly befriended intelligence analyst; tank crewman who represent Israel’s Black Panthers social justice reform movement; and a female officer who refuses to leave the battlefields, disobeying direct orders to evacuate.”

With Mipcom cancelled as a physical event, one might think that British distributors would be fearful about the business impact of not travelling to Cannes for their busiest TV show market of the year.
Far from it. While Brit distributors lament not being able to meet with clients over a glass of French rosé in October, most say they are gearing up for a busy month full of online video pitches amid heightened demand for content from broadcasters and streamers in the Covid-19 era.
Because of uncertainty about whether Mipcom would or wouldn’t take place, ITV, for example, has run its own three week-long event, the Fall Festival, a series of virtual sessions for buyers that began on Sept. 14.

When Banijay closed its $2.2 billion takeover of Endemol Shine earlier this summer, it became the largest independent production player outside the U.S. The formation of the super-group, during a pandemic no less, raised questions about how it might leverage a monster 88,000-hour catalogue, and what its plans were for super-brands like Endemol Shine drama “Black Mirror” and Banijay’s iconic “Survivor” format.

As disappointed as many fans were with the final episodes of Game of Thrones, there’s a particular kind of fevered anticipation when it comes to seeing what the cast and crew of such a long-running series choose to do next. This is perhaps heightened even further for those cast members who grew up on the series in question and haven’t really had the chance to stretch their acting legs yet, like Sophie Turner, Isaac Hempstead Wright or – starring in Sky’s new black comedy Two Weeks to Live – Maisie Williams.

It’s the announcement Taskmaster fans have been waiting for – who will be occupying the five (socially distanced this time around) chairs on stage alongside Greg Davies and Alex Horne for series 10. Now confirmed, the quintet facing the silliest and funniest challenges on television will be:
Daisy May Cooper

Richard Herring
Award-winning stand-up, top podcast host, tireless Scope UK fundraiser, former Fist of Fun and This Morning with Richard Not Judy star, and patient answerer of ‘when is International Men’s Day?’ questions on Twitter. An excellent choice.

After her Primetime Emmy and SAG-nominated performance in “Fleabag,” actor Sian Clifford’s career is on temporary pause after the coronavirus pandemic brought the industry to a standstill.
“It’s completely open-ended with no idea where we’ll end up or what it means for our industry,” said Clifford, who was speaking at a BAFTA-organized virtual panel on Tuesday for ITV/AMC mini-series “Quiz,” in which she stars alongside “Succession” actor Matthew Macfadyen.
“Everything I had lined up is postponed and might not even happen. I don’t know. We’ve just got to see. The most important thing is we get through it. ”
A strong performance by Clifford — who will next be seen in Sky comedy “Two Weeks to Live,” which is fortunately in post — bolsters “Quiz,” a compelling dramatization of the story of army major Charles Ingram (Macfadyen), his wife Diana (Clifford) and supposed coughing accomplice, Tecwen Whittock,...

Speaking at U.K. pay-tv operator Sky’s programming showcase at London’s Tate Modern art museum, on the banks of the Thames River, Wednesday evening, its CEO, Jeremy Darroch, said: “In the 12 years I’ve been running Sky I’ve never seen a lineup on screen like we are going to have in the next year or so.”
The event, described by its host Chris Evans as “the biggest season launch any TV company in Britain has ever undertaken,” was staged in a theater dressed to look like a ritzy jazz lounge, with plush red-velvet seating and art-deco lamps, and chilled champagne and herb-infused olives at every table. The waiting staff were all dressed as bell boys straight out of “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”
In total, Evans held onstage interviews with 33 star guests, who included a paparazzo’s dreamscape of tabloid-ready celebrities, including cricketer and “Top Gear” frontman Freddie Flintoff,...

“Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams will play a misfit on the run from a murderous gangster and the police in “Two Weeks to Live,” a new comedy series for Sky in the U.K.
Williams will star as Kim Noakes, who was a young girl when her father died in murky circumstances. Following his death, her mother whisked her away to a remote rural life of seclusion and bizarre survival techniques.
As Kim sets out into the real world and on a secret mission of honoring her father’s memory, she meets socially awkward Nicky in his brother Dave’s pub. When a prank goes wrong the three of them find all of their lives are in danger.
Gaby Hull (“Cheat”) has written the six-part Sky original series. It was commissioned by Zai Bennett, the pay TV platform’s managing director, content, and comedy chief Jon Mountague. Kudos is producing.
