After nearly a decade of tactical takedowns, moral dilemmas, and community service on primetime television, S.W.A.T. has officially signed off.
The action-packed series, led by the ever-charismatic Shemar Moore, concluded its final mission on May 16, 2025, bringing an end to an eight-season journey that beat the odds more than once.
From its premiere in 2017, S.W.A.T. carved its own lane in the crowded world of cop dramas, reinventing the 1970s classic with a modern edge and a deeply diverse cast. Fans gravitated toward Moore’s portrayal of Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson—a leader caught between duty and justice in a city that rarely made things easy. Alongside him were Jay Harrington, Alex Russell, David Lim, and others who gave heart and heat to the streets of Los Angeles.
But while the series found a devoted audience, its path behind the scenes was anything but smooth. Cancellations, comebacks, contract conflicts, and network shake-ups made S.

Exclusive: Actress Merrin Dungey has signed with Quest Entertainment & Management.
The signing marks a reunion of sorts for the Gersh-repped Dungey and manager Paul Rosicker of Quest. Dungey has been with Gersh for over two decades, while Rosicker was a TV talent agent at Gersh for 30+ years before launching Quest with partner Brian Ferrantino last year.
Recently, Dungey has been seen in a series regular role opposite Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear on Starz’s Shining Vale. She’s also recurred on CBS’s S.W.At., Bob’s Burgers for Fox, The Lincoln Lawyer at Netflix, and HBO’s Emmy winner Big Little Lies.
Dungey originally broke out as Francie, the roommate of Jennifer Garner’s Sydney, on J. J. Abrams’ Alias. She continues to be represented by Gersh and Jackoway, Austen Tyerman.
We were first to report on the launch of Quest Entertainment & Management in February of last year.

It’s been far too long since we’ve seen a Dancing With the Stars: All Stars season, and fans like me want one sooner, rather than later.
Not only has it been too long, but there’s only been one All Stars season thus far, and it seems we’re at the point where another should happen.
DWTS is heading to Season 34, which already has at least one confirmed cast member with Robert Irwin, but as fans, we always want as much of our favorite show as we can possibly get.
(ABC/Screenshot)
Since the lone All Stars season aired in 2010, many DWTS seasons have passed, and it feels like they could now assemble a solid cast for a second All Stars, whether that’s former runner-ups or another themed cast.

Amazing news: Sony Pictures Television has officially revived CBS’ canceled TV show, S.W.A.T.!
However, there’s a catch: it’s a spinoff show, with one returning character attached.
The new series will be titled S.W.A.T. Exiles and will see Shemar Moore return as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.
Keep reading to find out more…
It’s important to note that, despite Sony giving the series a 10 episode order, it does not currently have a network or streamer attached to air it at this time.
Here’s the new show’s logline, from Variety: “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental Swat unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program...

It’s official; S.W.A.T. is like the broadcast’s proverbial cockroach, incapable of dying.
It’s freaking immortal, somehow evading the curse that has befallen most of broadcast television.
Again, if I sound bitter, it’s because we’ve witnessed NBC, Fox, and CBS utterly slaughter their scripted primetime series. Casualties like Found, Rescue Hi-Surf, and two FBI spinoffs have been particularly brutal.
(Bill Inoshita/Sony Pictures Television/CBS)
But do you know what seems to have more lives than a blind kitten in traffic? S.W.A.T. Maybe other series and networks should enlist Shemar Moore’s help in salvaging series, as he seems to have the Midas Touch.
But let me hold your hand metaphorically when I say this: S.W.A.T. should have died long ago.

General Hospital’s Nurses Ball will air this week.
The event began in 1994 and, over two decades later, continues to entertain viewers and show off the actors’ other talents.
Performances are set and have been “rehearsed” this week during the episodes.

This year’s talent will feature some new additions, including the Og ladies of General Hospital.
Tracy, Anna, Lucy, and Felicia are teaming up.
We expect this to be the event’s highlight.
Of course, General Hospital spoilers tease that not everything goes as planned.

Sony Pictures Television is launching a new chapter in the S.W.A.T. franchise with S.W.A.T. Exiles, a ten-episode series set to begin production this summer in Los Angeles. Shemar Moore will return to his long-running role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, marking a continuation of the character’s story beyond the recent CBS series finale.
The new series comes after CBS opted not to renew S.W.A.T. following its eighth season, which concluded on May 16. Unlike previous years, where eleventh-hour negotiations brought the show back after cancellation announcements, this time the network allowed the series to close out its run to make room for new Paramount Global properties. Sony, which produces the franchise, has stepped in to continue the story under its own distribution strategy.

The studio behind Swat — and the show’s lead actor — are taking another shot at keeping the franchise going.
Sony Pictures Television has greenlit a spinoff of the crime procedural titled Swat Exiles. Like the recently ended CBS series, Exiles will star Shemar Moore, reprising his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson as he works with a team of young recruits. Sony will also distribute the series worldwide and will shop it to potential buyers in the near future.
The studio made the announcement Sunday evening at its annual L.A. Screenings event.

“S.W.A.T.” can’t be swat down. In a surprise move announced Sunday evening, Sony Pictures Television — a studio known for finding every way imaginable to revive its seemingly canceled series — announced that it had picked up, on its own, the spin-off series “S.W.A.T. Exiles.”
“S.W.A.T.” star Shemar Moore is back to star in the new show, reprising his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson in the 10-episode sequel. Come to think of it, Shemar Moore did seem uncharacteristically subdued on social media after the May 16 series finale of S.W.A.T.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the S.W.A.T. series finale “Return to Base.”] Heading into the S.W.A.T. series finale, wrapping an eight-season run, 20-Squad is down a member, but Gamble (Annie Ilonzeh) still ends up right in the middle of the action with HQ under attack. In the penultimate episode, which aired right before the finale on Friday, May 16, Gamble learns that her brother Leon (Nick Creegan) was connected to the drug dealer they’re after and sold him equipment but, despite pulling her gun on him, lets him go. After she confesses to Hondo (Shemar Moore), he wonders how he’s supposed to trust her and decides to let her transfer. The rest of 20-Squad, however, in the finale, isn’t too pleased, especially since they can use everyone with someone having planted landmines around Los Angeles. According to Deadline.com, and their sources, CBS did indeed cancel Swat, and we believe it's for good this time, but who knows given its history. Previously, CBS tried to cancel it after season 6, but then they turned around and changed their mind. Then, they said season 7 would be the last one, but then they gave it a season 8 renewal. So, while we are telling you it's canceled right now, you just really never know. We believe this it though from what we're being told. The cancellation announcement came pretty early back in early March 2025. Also, Deadline said that CBS did not even entertain the idea of having renewal talks this time. They just went straight in for the kill. This series is not directly produced by CBS. So, that could have something to do with it. It costs them more money to produce shows they don't directly own.

As Swat gears up for its final two episodes of the series, the CBS show has also been making sure to wrap up storylines involving the core characters, including some characters who had a more supporting role, such as Donovan Rocker.
Played by Lou Ferrigno Jr., Rocker has often been seen working alongside Squad 20 or being in silly competitions with the rest of the Swat officers. His popularity also saw a resurgence due to Ferrigno Jr.’s time on 911, where he played Tommy Kinard, the love interest of one of their main characters, Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark). Now with Swat going into the final episodes, we got to see Rocker once again.
In season eight, episode 20, Commander Hicks discovered his daughter, Molly (Laura James), was dating Rocker. He thought Rocker was still married, plus he didn’t like any of his officers seeing his daughter. Molly had previously dated...

S.W.A.T. star Annie Ilonzeh, who plays Devin Gamble, has given a hopeful update on the possible future of the show. Inspired by the original 1975 series, S.W.A.T. debuted on CBS in November 2017, and has so far run for eight seasons, and 161 episodes. Originally canceled after S.W.A.T. season 6, the show was then renewed a few days later, in a U-turn, for a seventh and final season, which debuted in February 2024. This decision was then also reversed, and the show was renewed for an eighth season, before CBS finally canceled S.W.A.T. for the final time in March 2025.
However, the show may not be fully dead just yet, as Ilonzeh revealed in an interview with ScreenRant that she is hopeful S.W.A.T. could make a shock return. She stated that there is a petition to save that show that has reached 80k signatures, and that she had spoken with an executive producer, who suggested the...

Though small solace to fans of either spinoff, the head of CBS Entertainment has commented on why the well-watched FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted both got cancelled ahead of the 2025-26 TV season.
Most Wanted and International this season both averaged about 6.5 million total viewers (with delayed playback), down just 9% from their previous seasons. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, they veritably tie for eighth — outdrawing the renewed Fire Country, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney, plus the cancelled S.W.A.T. and The Equalizer.

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach is explaining why Queen Latifah’s reign as The Equalizer is over.
“It’s never easy to end shows, and we had a lot of options this year,” Reisenbach told reporters on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after revealing CBS’ Fall 2025 schedule. “We always have to look at all of our shows, look at the aggregate information — the creative, where they are in their life cycle, what the finances look like, what the ratings are — and we make those tough decisions.

Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast in “Boston Blue” (working title), CBS’ upcoming spinoff of “Blue Bloods.”
She will play detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family, who is partnered with Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg reprising his “Blue Bloods” role).
The news was announced by Wahlberg and Martin-Green themselves at a CBS press briefing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where the network also unveiled its full 2025-2026 schedule.
“We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long,” Martin-Green said about the central “Blue Bloods” family. “And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time.”

We’ve been shocked by sudden cancellations this season, but Fox may have just taken the cake.
According to Deadline, Rescue Hi-Surf has been canceled after its freshman season.
While the decision comes as a shock given that its numbers were pretty respectable for a show on the network, it seems the decision was more about money than anything else.
(Zach Dugan/Fox)
In recent years, new shows have featured one or two A-list leads as the draws, but it seems Fox wanted to get Rescue Hi-Surf off the ground, err, shore, within a strict budget.
When all was said and done, Rescue Hi-Surf Season 1 averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.22 rating among adults 18-49.
