It is quite exciting to see a huge effort, and by this I mean humongous, Latin production is not often as well made, this is leveling up, acting is not bad as many reviews say, the adaptation us not terrible as some say; in honor to truth, it's actually exciting, actors can go as far as the writing goes. Cinematography is quite satisfying, well stylized, even dare to say better than some of the first chapters of house of cards, none the less technology has evolved quite significantly from five Ds... however my rating is not above the seven stars because as a Latin American I wish we could move on from the quirks (idieosincracys) of Latin America being a drug driven world of lust for drugs, alcohol and prostitution leading to power (which happens worldwide) understandingly this is a drama: and drama ain't all pretty and Hallmark like, but the angle and perspective is maybe just too much of a cliché; and leaves you wanting a little more depth.

Actors are brilliant, direction, art department as well. As a viwer you can hate the bad guys from the very first time you see them; and get disgusted very easily (writing could improve) make it a little more creddible. Amazon starts great projects, I hope this one stays to evolve, and not end like season two of Goliath which pretty much went sour on the poor writing and the cliché caricature of the Mexican quirks.
  • An stukning roleplay by our beloved Gáitan. She masters her role like à kitten showering her fur. I'm so sad the series had end at online 2 seasons.

    I totally love Violetta.
  • The series is based on the 2003 novel 'Diablo Guardián' by Xavier Velasco.

Violetta (Paulina Gaitán) is a sucker for luxurious and materialistic lifestyle and leaves her ordinary Mexico life for the glittery life of New York, with $217,000 in hand, that she had stolen from her disapproving parents.

Initially, she revels in luxurious - hotel stay, clothing, wine, dine and the likes. But eventually, the money runs out and she resorts to high end conning and prostitution, till it lasts.

Herein, the protagonist is kind of amoral but child like and gleeful and continuously experiments with everything fashionable and luxurious, which makes for an interesting watch.

Something along those lines ... although you could never really tell what goes on, in that pretty little head of our main character. Pretty little head and pretty little body (no pun intended) - of whicht the viewer will get to see quite a lot of.

Having said that, the movie works on more than a dramatic level. There is also a lot of thriller in it. Of course the first season is way tighter than the second one. Even though it seems that the second one is ending in a bang. But that cannot make up for weaker storytelling all around. First season is or at least seems more focused.

Also the way the first season ends ... and the way things are being picked up in season 2 ... well it is almost a slap in the face of the viewers. Soap Operas have done it before, but it is not fitting for a show like this, to play/fool around with the viewer like that. In my humble opinion. Ok show, nothing more, nothing less.
  • The story is different from what we are used to be told. As chapters go by the story keeps turning to different ways which keeps you engaged and "picado" (in spanish). I haven't read the book but I have heard opposing comments from people who have read it. Most of them say it is an amazing adaptation and is as good as the book since it has the same quotes and the characters were carefully chosen, like "el jardinerito". Others mention they imagined Violetta as a more beautiful actress like Barbara Mori (who is not even mexican) rather than showing good looking girl that can be from a mexican middle class. I think the actress Paulina Gaitan and the other actors do a great job. I liked the fact they were not very well known (except for Pedro Alonso) because it makes the story more credible and unexpected.

Paulita Gaitán did a great job, but I think that, compared to the book, adaptation was poor. So many things unexplained. Huge important parts of the book went missing.
  • I don't agree with the purists: Diablo Guardián is a darn good adaptation of a novel that wouldn't fit work as a movie.

The actors are amazing, both Violetta (Paulina Gaitán) and Nefastófeles (Andrés Almeida) did an outstanding job. Also, let's remember Xavier Velasco (the writer) chose Paulina and Pig, he helped with the casting.

So, needless to say I love it. I think it'll become a big event for Prime Video production and it's already a high mark for Mexican TV.
  • They really butchered a great story. The main character doesn't resemble at all to the one portrayed on the book, and it's played by a bad actress who seems that never understood the personality and the motivation of the character. Don't even bother, you'll just keep wondering why did they messed with it...

Great Paulina Gaitán starring Violetta...there could not be a better actress for the role! The book adaptation is phenomenal and supported by the same book writer Xavier Velasco. Great drama and an hedgy story!

    Warning: Spoilers
LO PEOR QUE HE VISTO EN AMAZON, OJALÁ NO SIGAN ESTA LÍNEA
  • I don't understand or read Spanish much, so watched with subtitles.

No spoilers in this review because the less you know, the better.

The lead actress is excellent. I had seen her in Narco, so she looked familiar, couldn't place her. All the actors are good, but she steals the show. I'm very curious about the books.

Giving It a ten for the uniqueness and the lead Actress

Are there going to be more seasons? Hard to believe.

I'd love to talk about the series, but on this one any spoilers would interfere with surprises. Very R rated. It avoids showing the few moments of actual violence. Lots of drug scenes. Sex scenes aren't explicit, but frequent.

Overall a very tricky and clever story.
  • I can't even start to enlist all of the things that are wrong about this adaptation:

    • The cast (with the exception of Andrés Almedia), is full of pretty untalented actors; they spent more time showing Violetta's tits and ass, than making the actrees "act".
    • There are tons of chronological mistakes from the begining.
    • The music is way too loud to hear what the characters say.
    • Pushing a cameo from the author of the book was nonesense...

Stick with the book and don't waste time on this piece of garbage.
  • Violetta is an awesome character. She has a unique voice and Paulina Gaitán shines in the role. However, the parallel story, that of Pig's self-pitty is terribly boring. You can fast forward all of Pig's scenes and you would have missed nothing by the end.
  • People's opinions on what is good or bad when it comes to voicing ones perception about a movie or a show may vary. However, this show could be the closest effort to represent what bad acting means.

Seriously, one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

Perdí mi tiempo viendo esta basura de producción.
  • This series is not boring, its always packed with some interesting event. You will not get bored. Much better, Please make series 2 also. Nice Work.

The story of the tv serie is verry interesting. I liked very much the actors and the music at the and of every serie. Look forward for the next season.
  • I became a big fan, Violeta performs impressively and all the cast is awesome
  • This was my favorite novel back in the day, and the adaptation was well worth the wait! The actress behind Violetta completely embodies her magnetic personality and it feels like very natural role for her; her voice and acting are simply stand outs! The soundtrack is better than you'd expect from a heavy music based novel. Story wise it's filled with twists and turns that will make you laugh and become attached with some of the cast members.
  • Ignore all those critics and just watch it! Apart from those boring parts of 🐖, Diablo Guardian is a good one from Amazon Prime.
