I’m Convinced Dynasty’s Fallon Carrington Could Not Outshine These On-Screen Billionaires (Includes Succession)
Image
Filthy rich television characters have no satisfaction—they already have wads of fortune yet they still grapple and kill for more money. It’s a different story when the entire family is involved, as the fight to stay on top of their game and protect their wealth always prevails.

Whenever we talk about billionaires, Dynasty’s Fallon Carrington immediately comes to mind. She’s an heiress and businesswoman, and most importantly, a highly intelligent, competent, and charismatic figure in the show.

Dynasty’s Fallon Carrington pales in comparison with these ultra-wealthy tycoons Elizabeth Gillies in Dynasty / Credits: The CW

The CW’s Dynasty is a reboot of the 1981 soap opera drama of the same title. The Carringtons from the original show were already dirty rich with a net worth of $500 million (as per Collider), but this isn’t so impressive in today’s financial landscape. The new Carringtons, including Elizabeth Gillies’ Fallon,...

The Colbys: A Soap Spin-Off with Superstars
Image
Dallas‘ spin-off, Knots Landing, ran for 14 seasons, from 1979 to 1993, and got a two-part sequel movie in 1997. Dynasty’s spin-off, The Colbys, barely squeaked out two years on the air, from 1985 to 1987. Knots Landing may be streaming on Amazon. But The Colbys is perfectly positioned for a weekend binge. The complete run is available on DVD on Amazon. Here’s why it’s worth your while to give it a watch.

Soap Hub may receive a commission on orders placed through retail links.

Dallas launched with The Man From Atlantis and Major Nelson from I Dream of Jeannie in the lead. Dynasty had Bachelor Father and John Derek’s ex-wife, then hired the woman who’d starred in Empire of the Ants. The Colbys, on the other hand, burst out of the gate with a cast that included Katherine Ross, who’d co-starred opposite Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate,...

‘Shrinking’ Star Ted McGinley On Being Labeled the Patron Saint of Jumping the Shark: ‘I Started Losing Jobs’
Image
While most actors pray for a hit show, Ted McGinley has had the luxury of being on several. From his first TV job on “Happy Days,” to now enjoying a gig on Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” McGinley spent multiple seasons on such popular 1980s programs as “The Love Boat,” “Dynasty” and “Married… With Children.” But that success came with a dark side when he was unfairly labeled “The Patron Saint of Jumping the Shark,” and associated with the death of popular TV shows.

Speaking at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation during a lengthy conversation about his career, McGinley said the phrase hurt. “At first I thought it was kind of funny,” he said. “And then I realized that I started losing jobs.”

The nickname came from Jon Hein, the founder of the website JumptheShark.com. The origins of the phrase referred to an episode in Season 5 of “Happy Days” in which Henry Winkler...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From The Big Valley
Image
Big screen Westerns might've been falling out of favor at the U.S. box office in 1965 (thus paving the way for Spaghetti Westerns to become a surprise sensation when Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy rode into movie theaters throughout the course of 1967), but television Westerns were still swaggering their way to strong ratings thanks to "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," and the hybrid Western/spy/sci-fi series "The Wild Wild West." And with "Rawhide" finally drawing to a close that year (thereby allowing its star Clint Eastwood to become a modern Western star), there was suddenly room for a new, sudsy, ranch-bound saga about scheming landowners and warring heirs.

"The Big Valley" whooped it up for a solid four-season run, running out of steam in 1969 at around the same moment the television Westerns began going the way of classical big screen oaters. Until then, viewers were hooked on the doings at the Barkley Ranch,...

New Addition: Billy Campbell cast in upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot
Image
The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.

Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.

Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.

Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.

A Star Trek Actor's Famous Father Played Jim's Dad On The Office
Image
Did you know that Chris Pine's dad, actor Robert Pine, played a super-tiny role on "The Office" as the father of John Krasinski's Jim Halpert? You probably didn't — but on a recent podcast, stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey discussed the elder Pine's time on their set.

In the 109th episode of "Office Ladies" — a recap podcast about the hit NBC mockumentary sitcom — Fischer and Kinsey tackled the first half of season 6's "Niagara," which centers around the wedding of Jim and Pam (Fischer). "This is where we are going to meet Jim's parents for the first time," Fischer says as the two discuss the scene featuring the couple's rehearsal dinner. "We have Betsy Halpert, played by Perry Smith, and Gerald Halpert, played by Robert Pine, who is the father of actor Chris Pine."

"People were so excited," Kinsey said, and Fischer agreed: "We were a little bit excited.

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: May 2023
Image
With its list of new releases for May 2023, Amazon Prime Video is increasing its global reach.

The streamer’s biggest original offering this month is a German series. Hohlbeins’ – The Gryphon, based on the works of Wolfgang Holhlbein, will present a sprawling fantasy tale about three teens discovering a fantastical world called The Black Tower where “the Gryphon, a world-devouring monster, mercilessly subjugates all living creatures.”

The only other original title of note in May is Freevee comedy Primo on the 19th. Written by author and journalist Shea Serrano and produced by Michael Schur (The Good Place), this coming-of-age series will follow a teenager balancing “college aspirations, societal expectations, and a hectic home life on the south side of San Antonio.”

And that’s pretty much it for Amazon Originals this month! Thankfully, there is a huge influx of library content to keep Prime Video subscribers entertained. May 4 sees the...

Namor Represents The Kang Dynasty's Big Challenge Besides The Multiverse
Image
Namor's involvement in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty poses a major challenge for the upcoming Phase 6 film. Tenoch Huerta debuted as Namor during Phase 4's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, adapted from Namor the Sub-Mariner, one of Marvel Comics' original characters who debuted back in 1939. Namor had been long-anticipated in the MCU, and his introduction didn't disappoint as he went toe-to-toe with the forces of Wakanda and the McU's new Black Panther, Shuri, as well as introducing audiences to his underwater nation of Talokan, a representation of Atlantis from the comics.

Despite a brilliant introduction in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor's future in the MCU is currently unclear. While Marvel Studios owns the film rights to Namor, the distribution rights belong to Universal Pictures. This means Namor probably won't be appearing as the protagonist in any Marvel Studios project. Marvel skirted this issue with the Hulk by including him as a secondary...

Tom Cruise, Winnie the Pooh set for King Charles' coronation concert
Image
Los Angeles, April 29 (Ians) King Charles III’s coronation is set to be a memorable occasion as the latest stars to be confirmed for the concert, which will take place in the grounds of Windsor Castle the day after the historic ceremony, are Tom Cruise, Nicole Scherzinger and Winnie the Pooh.

It will not be the trio’s first brush with royalty, with all three having attended previous royal events. Cruise was a guest at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997, Pooh was invited to a children’s garden party at Buckingham Palace for Queen Elizabeth II’s 80th anniversary in 2006 and Scherzinger took part in a pageant in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee last year, reports Variety.

For the coronation, which will honour King Charles’ ascension to the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth last year, Cruise and Pooh will appear alongside ‘Dynasty’ star Joan Collins,...

What's Coming to Prime Video in May 2023: Academy of Country Music Awards, 'Moonrise Kingdom,' 'Till'
Image
In May, Prime Video will return to the world of live awards shows as it again broadcasts the Academy of Country Music Awards on May 11. The major event will be hosted by country-music superstars Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks. The 58th ACM Awards will stream live from The Star in Frisco, Texas. One of the benefits of an awards show on a streaming service is that it doesn’t run commercials. If Prime Video continues the tradition it started last year, the ACMs will utilize the entire venue to keep the action moving throughout the show.

Coming to the streaming service in May is Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom,” a charming, stylized coming-of-age adventure about two offbeat 12-year-olds (played by Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman) who find solace in each other. Their touching romance is a potent reminder that love comes at all ages — and adults have much to learn from children.

The Cast Of Yellowjackets Shoots Down One Of The More Morbid Season 2 Fan Theories
Image
The following post contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets."

The beloved Showtime series "Yellowjackets" has already garnered a legion of devoted fans, who, in the lead-up to the even more shocking second season, have been busy as bees doing what stans on the internet have always done: obsessively theorizing about all the wild places the show could, but probably won't go.

In the days of yore, before Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook conquered the world and decreed that every post has the potential to be seen by millions of people, denizens of the internet used to roam the loamy and pacific pastures of chatrooms like AOL and IRC, and self-publishing sites like LiveJournal and the Angelfire platform in search of like-minded enthusiasts to share pop culture theories. Deprived of the sunlight of public attention, these theories grew in strange and fantastic ways — and, if memory serves, often quite horrible ways too.

Liam Hemsworth and Gabriella Brooks's Relationship Timeline Is Mysterious but Adorable
Image
Liam Hemsworth and Gabrielle Brooks are relatively private about their relationship. The pair have only made a few joint public appearances since being romantically linked in 2019 - making their red carpet debut as a couple on Nov. 15, 2022. However, it seems their romance has been smooth sailing following Hemsworth's divorce from ex Miley Cyrus.

The former couple's split was announced in August 2019 after less than a year of marriage and 10 years of dating on and off, and Hemsworth filed for divorce less than two weeks later. However, they both seemed to move on fairly quick. Cyrus was seen kissing blogger Kaitlynn Carter around the same time as her and Hemsworth's breakup. Meanwhile, the Hunger Games alum briefly sparked dating rumors with "Dynasty" star Maddison Brown in October 2019 when they were caught canoodling in NYC, but speculation quickly fizzled out.

Just a few months later, Hemsworth was spotted introducing Brooks to his parents,...

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - How To Beat Zhang Liang (Boss Fight)
Image
Beating Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s Zhang Liang boss, also known as the General of Man, can be quite a challenge for new players. The game’s first boss is quite the heavy hitter and, in addition to that, he has two distinct phases that may seem overwhelming for those who are getting into a soulslike game for the first time. Developer Team Ninja had already set a high bar of difficulty with the Nioh franchise, but the new title’s opening boss fight is a great way to set the tone of oppression for the rest of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is different from Nioh in the sense that the whole gameplay is less customizable. It also relies a lot more on parrying and breaking the opponent’s Spirit Gauge to land critical hits rather than constantly dealing damage. This makes it very similar to...

The ‘Leave It to Beaver’ Street Is Looking More Like Today’s LA
Image
Diversity has historically been slow to come to the highly filmed stretch of Orion Avenue in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley known as Cameron Woods. But the same throwback suburban qualities that have long brought film crews to its spacious ranch-style homes and Cape Cods — it’s called “The Leave It to Beaver Street” for a reason — are drawing new residents who look more like the surrounding city.

Cameron Woods residents are still mostly white, a contrast to the rest of Van Nuys where it’s situated and heavily Latino. Traditionally, the 30 or so homes on this upscale stretch of Orion Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Erwin Street rarely came up for sale, instead passing to family members or the children of neighbors. But as more of those homeowners have been “aging out” or otherwise moving on, the increased turnover is bringing greater diversity.

While there are still few if any Latino residents here,...

Gerald Fried, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Roots’ Composer, Dies at 95
Image
Gerald Fried, the Oscar-nominated, oboe-playing composer who created iconic gladiatorial fight music for the original Star Trek series and collaborated with Quincy Jones to win an Emmy for their theme to the landmark miniseries Roots, has died. He was 95.

Fried died Friday of pneumonia at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, his wife, Anita Hall, told The Hollywood Reporter.

After meeting Stanley Kubrick on a baseball field in the Bronx in the early 1950s, Fried wound up scoring the filmmaker’s first four features: Fear and Desire (1953), Killer’s Kiss (1955), The Killing (1956) and Paths of Glory (1957).

Fried also supplied the music for such cult Roger Corman classics as Machine-Gun Kelly (1958), The Cry Baby Killer (1958) and I Mobster (1959). He also worked with directors Larry Peerce on One Potato Two Potato (1964) and The Bell Jar (1979), as well as with Robert Aldrich on The Killing of Sister George (1968), What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice?...

Roots (1977)
After a decades-long career in television — and nearly a century on this planet — composer Gerald Fried has died at age 95. Shake Up at The CW
Further to Nexstar Media Group, Inc. acquiring a 75 ownership interest in The CW Network, LLC (aka The CW), the TV network reported 100 million in losses, canceled numerous series and fired longtime president Mark Pedowitz, finance chief Mitch Nedick and chief branding Officer Rick Haskins, seemingly signalling the end of producer Greg Berlanti's 'gay-tv' push, that encouraged writers to groom popular DC Comics' superheroes into woke 'Lqbtq' characters:

Also let go from The CW were Gaye Hirsch, the network's EVP of Development and Michael Roberts, EVP of Current Programming.

The CW's recently canceled TV series include "Supergirl", "Naomi", "Batwoman", "Legends of Tomorrow", "In the Dark", the "Vampire Diaries" spinoff "Legacies", as well as the network's reboots of "Charmed", "Dynasty", "4400" and "Roswell, New Mexico".

Final seasons this year also include the series "The Flash", "Superman & Lois", "All American", "Nancy Drew", "Stargirl", "Walker" and "Kung Fu".

The CW Apparently Prefers Live Golf To Your Favorite Cancelled Show
Image
The CW's continued scheduling shakeups will now include a live golf broadcast. The network, which is best known for being the home to series like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and Riverdale, was put up for sale by its parent companies in early 2022 before being taken over by the Texas-based media company Nexstar, who were granted controlling shares of the company. During this sale process, a vast swath of then-running CW series were given the axe, including Legacies, Dynasty, and Charmed, as well as most of the remaining series in the DC-based Arrowverse (which originated with the 2012 Stephen Amell show Arrow), namely Naomi, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman.

Per TVLine, Nexstar's first move in establishing their new slate of programming is to strike a deal with Liv Golf. This multi-year partnership will begin in 2023 as The CW will air games from various Liv Golf League tournaments live. This will take place on various weekends,...

Finding The Right Look For Harrison Ford Was A Tall Order For The Yellowstone Crew
Image
You've seen Harrison Ford fight a star war, but in the "Yellowstone" prequel series, "1923," he's fighting a ranch war, and he's doing it in style. Ford is no stranger to wearing a hat in his movie roles; he'll be doing it again next year in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." However, rather than Indy's iconic Fedora hat, "1923" sees Ford donning a cowboy hat as Montana rancher Jacob Dutton, who — together with his wife, Cara Dutton, played by Dame Helen Mirren — finds himself fending off sheep farmers on the open range.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, "1923" is just the latest spin-off in the "Yellowstone" TV universe. It's a sequel to "1883," and it marks Ford's first regular TV role. Yes, he appeared in "The Star Wars Holiday Special," but we don't talk about that.

"1923" costume designer Janie Bryant is one crew member who really felt the weight of Ford's hat-wearing legacy.

Where to Watch Riches (Season 1)
Image
Find out where to watch Season 1 of Riches, the new drama-filled series about family members battling for control of a powerful haircare and beauty empire.

The central themes of Riches hardly seem unique, especially with popular series like Succession offering a corporate drama filled with power struggles, scandals, deceptions, and plot twists. Suddenly, she receives word that her father, Stephen Richards, who abandoned her family many years ago and had been running a highly profitable cosmetics business in the UK, had passed away. Nina and her brother Simon set off for the UK for the funeral and to meet with their British family members to read the will of Stephen Richards, played by Hugh Quarshie...
