Nice characters but lacking in cohesion. Bits and pieces but not coming together.

    Warning: Spoilers
Tepid character development, although I enjoyed Scott Porter's character. Even the mom wasn't very believable as a nurturing mom type. Still, it was sweet enough until the end, when all of a sudden it cut to a year later and then the final scene. Which was ridiculous if this was supposed to be a rom-com, because -spoiler alert- he does not get the girl.

No spoilers here, but I thought it was going to be a sweet Rom-Com kind of thing. NAH. Not a 'happy' film.
  • Trite excruciating Screen Writiing. Predictable characters with minimal development. First world woes all the way.

The answer to his question am I a bad person? He's worse than a bad person!

I am a complete sucker for baseball movies, even the bad ones! A washed up Triple A catcher returns to his boyhood town not knowing his future. Unoriginal, but i'll give it a try, or so I thought. I like movies that throw me a curve ball and this one did. Won't win any awards but very watchable.
  • I thought this movie was very satisfying. Even though it focuses on a minor league baseball player returning to his hometown, I think anyone who has left their hometown for a long time for any reason will connect with this movie. While Dustin and I didn't leave our towns for even remotely similar reasons (I suck at baseball), that feeling of being an outsider in the place where you grew up is one I've felt a lot returning home. Credit to director/writer Michael Doneger for capturing that feeling perfectly. Great movie.

The sickest thing about this movie is the world is full of men like this a woman that will leave a truly good man to chase and wait for the guy to end the parade of girls through his bed!
  • Brampton's Own is the story of a baseball player who has so far failed to make it to the big leagues. Returning home to the small town he left behind and to the people he once knew brings back memories of what could have been. Finding the love of his life getting ready to marry another, he tries to win her back but must choose between his life's calling and the love of his life. Both Alex Russell and Rose McIver gave fantastic performances in this film giving it an extra layer of emotion. Besides the main couple the rest of the cast was great and gave the film some very memorable and funny moments. I highly recommend this film to those who are fans of romantic comedies.

Being a big baseball fan, I was drawn to Brampton's Own through the main character's dream and goal of become a major-league player. The film follows the almost 30 year old Dustin who is an AAA baseball player for a team that feeds into the Seattle Mariners. He decides that after 12 years of trying to make the majors to give up his dream and move back to his hometown to pursue another dream, his high school sweetheart. Dustin is welcomed by his family when returning home but he realizes when being home that he still loves and misses the game of baseball. Dustin must decide if he should pursuit the game he loves or the girl next door. What I enjoyed most about the film was the humor, I found myself laughing aloud many times at Dustin's relationship with a young boy he befriends when returning home. The story is fun and nostalgic, being an entertaining sports movie that left me pleased.

Brampton's Own was a classic tale of returning home and reconnecting with old flames, that I really enjoyed. Director Michael Doneger does a fantastic job creating this story of finding one's self of belonging in a place that has changed from what it once was. It follows Dustin, a 30-year-old aspiring professional baseball player, who goes home and tries to win back his high school sweetheart who is engaged to another man. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship be reborn and felt that the actors did well to portray the mixed feelings of seeing each other after so many years. There was a lot of history between Dustin and his ex-girlfriend and the story deals with that in a realistic way, really making him work to get her love back. This is a great film for a quiet movie night with friends!

Combining a heartfelt story with a superb cast, Michael Doneger creates a story about coming home to nothing being the same. Minor league baseball player Dustin (Alex Russell) returns home after finally hanging up his cleats to find everything has changed. His friends, family, and even the town he grew up in have moved on without him, leaving him to find out what he truly wants to do in life outside of the baseball diamond. Expecting to return to the same quiet town of Brampton, Dustin comes to find that his glory days are well in the past, with no one remembering the high school standout that brought athletic recognition to the tight-knit community. Confronted with deciding between his love of the game and the girl who got away (A Christmas Prince's Rachel McIver), Dustin realizes that the choice to be happy isn't always the easiest, which is a concept that I myself still struggle with sometimes. With beautiful scenery that captivated my attention and a script that is filled to the brim by witty banter and tangible chemistry, Brampton's Own is the movie that will leave you looking forward to your next date night.
  • I loved this movie because it gave you some great life decisions I hope they make another movie on this.
  • Why surprising, you ask? I don't know. Maybe just because I wasn't familiar with either of the lead actors, and the poster art was just alright, and it's on Netflix. So I went in with low expectations. But here's the thing: This movie is funny, it's grounded in realism, athletes will appreciate it, and you will feel the "love story" at its core.

Extremely realistic and so well done even if the actors aren't well known. Cool to see Jason Street back in a sports movie and great to see they didn't go for the easy happy Hollywood ending
