  • On Madison Avenue auteur David Stanley would be classified as an idea man, as he always comes up with an interesting and often novel premise for his porn films, whether just as scripter or also directing (during his salad days at Vivid and later Wicked). For "Now or Never" his gimmick just doesn't fly, accounting for this being a totally forgotten opus (I had to add it 14 years after to the IMDb database even though it's a major (Vivid) label title.

Too much description would spoil what little it has to offer, but basically the story revolves around antihero Bobby Vitale being told he has a limited time to live, and the various complications that result from his acting upon that knowledge. Stanley's twists and turns of story are there to be sure, but the narrative veers from unpredictable to cornball in a disappointing fashion.

In line with the title and central premise, Stanley keeps throwing in a tag phrase: "Tick Tock..." that becomes annoying. I, for one, didn't care much at all about Vitale's fate, and became convinced that all this story, so precious to my gonzo-hating heart, was merely an excuse for the requisite five sex scenes. It's a B-level femme cast but still appealing, including contract star Dasha (the reason for Stanley to shoot this Vivid programmer in the first place) and lovelies like Shelby Myne and doing their lesbian thing: big-bust Tanya Danielle and Holly Hollywood.
