Exclusive: Cassady McClincy (The Walking Dead), Dempsey Bryk (Willow), Lucy Walters (Power) and Royce Johnson (Jessica Jones) are set to lead The Snare, an indie dramatic thriller marking the feature directorial debut of Merlin Camozzi.
The film, which recently wrapped production in Schenectady, NY, centers around Dani (McClincy), a straight-a student from the wrong side of the tracks, who has worked toward an academic scholarship for years. When she’s busted with a small amount of drugs, the police pressure her to become an informant, forcing her to choose between the people she most loves and the future she’s worked so hard to create.
Elizabeth Stahlmann (City on a Hill), Esther Zyskind (The Other Kingdom) and Dominic Bogart (Just Mercy) round out the cast of the pic based on an original story by Camozzi, an Mfa graduate of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, who sought inspiration...

The 1994 Sundance Film Festival may have been immortalized by Kevin Smith’s “Clerks,” but Boaz Yakin’s debut “Fresh” made out well enough. After scripting “Punisher” and “The Rookie,” Yakin directed a spry African American crime drama that put his career on a steady upward trajectory. That culminated in 2000 football hit “Remember the Titans,” which grossed $136.7 million and suggested a bright future in the studio system.
Yakin, however, wasn’t sure he wanted that. His latest movie, “Aviva,” marks his most personal movie in 30 years — and only would have been possible with those decades of roadblocks behind him. “I was a super-hot director after ‘Remember the Titans,’ and everyone in Hollywood wanted to work with me,” the 53-year-old New Yorker said in a recent interview. “I was being offered gigantic movies. I just had this moment where I was like, oh no, if I go down this road, I’m...

Well, we made it through another season of American Horror Story. The harrowing season finale is behind us. Some fans loved Apocalypse, some hated it. But now, it's time to look forward. As you probably know, the series has been renewed for two more seasons, so we better settle in with all this dread. With that in mind, we're wondering what we might get out of the next installment.
Of course, we don't have any concrete information about season nine. I mean, there's a really solid chance it will include Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, at least, since they've been in every season. But as for the theme and the contents? That's really a mystery until creator Ryan Murphy clues us in. But that's not going to stop us from firing up our big ol' theory engines, now is it? Based on some hints we may have gotten in Apocalypse,...

“Boarding School” is the kind of enterprise whose problems you might normally suspect as being the result of a mismatch between helmer and scenarist — except in this case both are Boaz Yakin, whose diverse prior films include “Fresh,” “A Price Above Rubies,” “Remember the Titans” and “Max.” His first directorial foray into anything approaching horror terrain is a contemporary Gothic melodrama in which (just like current release “Down a Dark Hall”) “problem” children are herded off to an isolated, creepy academy where members of the skeleton staff have a sinister agenda.
“Boarding School” includes an odd mix of narrative elements within a classically Grimm child-endangerment scenario that would work best played as a modern fairy tale. Yet Yakin chooses to pace the film more slowly as a serious drama, which keeps the suspense from building real momentum and exacerbates the script’s implausibilities. A more magical-realist treatment might have have...

"Only in the wilderness is man made pure again." Momentum has released a trailer for a dark thriller film titled Boarding School, the latest from filmmaker Boaz Yakin. The synopsis for this seems similar to The Miseducation of Cameron Post, but the actual film seems to border on being more horror or psychological thriller than a drama. Luke Prael stars as Jacob, a 12-year-old boy who, after being caught wearing women's dresses by his father, is sent away to a private boarding school for teenage misfits. Once there, he discovers the headmaster is much more dangerous than helpful in any way. The cast includes Will Patton, Samantha Mathis, Robert John Burke, Tammy Blanchard, Lucy Walters, Sterling Jerins, and Nadia Alexander. This gets super creepy by the end. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Boaz Yakin's Boarding School, direct from YouTube: When troubled 12-year-old Jacob Felsen is sent away to boarding school,...
