The journey that led to Charles Dickens' creation of "A Christmas Carol," a timeless tale that would redefine Christmas.
The idea of characters from a work of fiction in the process of being written appearing as real persons advising the author as he is writing the story was used in "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm" (1962).
Mr. John Dickens:

Much is made of turkey being the centre-piece of a good Christmas feast. This tradition arose much later, however. In Dickens' day - and in the original novella - the festive bird of choice was a goose.
