The journey that led to Charles Dickens' creation of "A Christmas Carol," a timeless tale that would redefine Christmas.
Simon Callow (who appears in the film as illustrator John Leech) previously provided the voice of Ebenezer Scrooge for another adaptation of A Christmas Carol: 2001's Christmas Carol: The Movie.
Thackeray taunts Dickens by reminding him of the American phrase, "There's gold in them thar hills. " The film events take place prior to Christmas 1843. The phrase is attributed to Georgia assayer Mathew Stephenson regarding the 1849 California gold rush but popularized in an 1892 book by Mark Twain.
