  • A fairly randomly structured movie, by the standards that set in the Malayalam movie field. Jayaram's character as Roy is near-ridiculous although the actor has perhaps put in an effort - the combination of the character, the way he has been directed and his acting is pathetic. Prakash Raj and his supporting team are more respectable than the rest. The "hero" and his cousins and friends are exactly the kind of characters society could be spared of and there is no basis for which any girl/woman would find this type attractive. There is a storyline, but fraught with issues and a lack of quality.

Achayans as its title suggests, is celebration unlimited throughout the first half. This one can't qualify as a family film, but has its moments. Its about four guys who plan to party hard and travel around, but get involved in a series of unfortunate events later. Roy(Jayaram), Tony (Unni Mukundan), Aby (Adil) and Raffi (Sanju) are sent to a priest (Ramesh Pisharadi) for a counselling, but get thrown out due to their alcohol addiction. Later, two girls join their new year party, and when a murder happens in their hotel, a police officer Karthik IPS (Prakash Raj) is given charge of the investigation.

Performance wise, Prakash Raj gives a shining performance and steals the show right from his intro, towards the end of first half. Jayaram, Unni Mukundan, Sanju, Adil, Amala Paul, Sivada, Anu Sitara, Janardanan, Ramesh Pisharadi, Dharmajan among others give their usual performances. Siddique in a small role gives a brilliant performance. Politician PC George gives a special appearance as himself. The romantic song sung by Unni Mukundan is melodious.

Negatives - there is an overdose of songs that could have been avoided. The film could have been trimmed by a good 20 minutes at least to avoid those unwanted scenes featuring jokes on alcohol, boozing and women. Then the film would have been an excellent entertainer without lags.
