Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver has rocketed to the top of Netflix’s charts but has landed fewer viewers than its opening saga.
The film, which was released on April 19, opened with 21.4M views, making it the most-watched title of the week.
However, it came in lower than its prequel, which managed 23.9M when it was released in December.
Its launch did help the first part re-enter the film charts at number five, bringing in 5.5M views over the week. This means that Snyder has had three chart-topping films following the launch of Army of the Dead.
Elsewhere, the live-action/animated crossover Woody the Woodpecker Goes to Camp was number two with 18.8M views, followed by the true-crime documentary What Jennifer Did that brought in 16.3M views at number three.
On the TV side, Richard Gadd’s creepy stalker series Baby Reindeer moved to the top...

Exclusive: Richard Gadd’s acclaimed new Netflix hit Baby Reindeer will compete in the Limited Series categories for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, Deadline can confirm. The seven-episode show is a lightly fictionalized account of Gadd’s own experience with a stalker, who sent him more than 40,000 emails, as well as hundreds of tweets, letters and voicemails, and has been a surprise word-of-mouth hit for the streamer since its April 11 launch.
“The success of Baby Reindeer is still quite hard to fathom having been out now for a little over a week,” says executive producer, writer, and star Richard Gadd. “Who knew this weird story about a self-sabotaging comedian getting stalked and living in the aftermath of abuse would go on to touch so many people’s lives? Inspiration, hopefully, for those in a similar quagmire to keep going.”

You know Zeus. Greek god of thunder, curly hair, luscious big beard, turns into a swan? You’ve seen his face on statues in parks and on tile mosaics behind the counter in kebab shops.
That’s not the Zeus in Netflix’s new fantasy drama Kaos, from Charlie Covell, screenwriter of The End of the F***ing World. As played by Jeff Goldblum, the Zeus of Kaos looks more Tony Soprano than beardy all-father. And home-of-the-gods Mount Olympus? Think a lavishly appointed mansion such as you might see on Selling Sunset instead of a bucolic paradise crawling with nymphs and fauns.
Covell’s vision of Greek myth clearly comes with a modern twist, hence Zeus’ Casio watch and leisure suit collection in the first teaser trailer below:
As Goldblum explained at a recent Netflix slate preview event: “One may say it’s about the Gods, but a different version of the Gods.

I can almost imagine Out of Darkness’ director Andrew Cumming pitching the film to potential backers as Quest for Fire meets Predator. Following in the footsteps of Aardman Animations legends Peter Lord, David Sproxton and Nick Park, a new wave of creators are driving the company forward. While its celebrated franchises, such as Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Chicken Run are still much loved, and it has four Oscars wins with nine further nominations under its belt, Aardman is also focused on nurturing new talent, such as the creators of Oscar nominated short film “Robin Robin,” and series, such as “Lloyd of the Flies” and “The Very Small Creatures.”
Speaking to Variety from Aardman’s headquarters on Spike Island, Bristol, in the West of England, two of the creative minds behind “Lloyd of the Flies,” Aardman’s first CGI series, explain how the show evolved. In other articles, Variety speaks to Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, the creators of “Robin Robin,” and Lucy Izzard, the creator of “The Very Small Creatures.

Here's a crossover you never knew you needed until now. Decades after the original "The Karate Kid" put star Ralph Macchio on the map and introduced audiences to Pat Morita's beloved Mr. Miyagi, Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith took a crack at remaking the classic in 2010 -- though in a modernized setting and, notably, not portraying the exact same characters from the original. The franchise kept the nostalgia going with Netflix's popular "Cobra Kai" series, which reunited Macchio's Daniel Larusso with William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence. Now, not even the Cobra Kai dojo feels big enough to contain what's coming down the pipeline next.
Sony Pictures breathlessly announced that a new "Karate Kid" movie is officially in the works. But get this: the twist is that both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have been cast and will be "reprising their characters" from the respective franchise films they previously starred in.

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are set to star in a new Karate Kid movie, currently penciled in for release on December 13th, 2024.
Chan and Macchio will reprise their respective characters of Mr. Han from 2010’s The Karate Kid and Daniel Larusso from the original Karate Kid trilogy and hit Netflix series Cobra Kai.
The announcement comes via a video revealing a global casting call for the next Karate Kid, a character named Li Fong. The role calls for a Chinese actor between 15 and 17 years old who speaks fluent English and is “smart, scrappy, and a skilled martial artist.”
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World), the movie was originally announced by Sony Pictures last year with a June 7th, 2024 release date. Details about the script, written by Rob Lieber, are being kept under wraps.

While Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have never before appeared together on screen, even as they’ve led films in different corners of the Karate Kid universe, they’re getting that opportunity now via a new feature installment in Sony’s hugely popular martial arts saga.
Macchio reprises his role as Daniel Larusso, the karate champion molded by Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi, with Chan as Mr. Han, the kung fu master who helped Jaden Smith fend off bullies in Sony’s 2010 Karate Kid remake. Details as to the plot of the film are under wraps, though sources say that it will mark a continuation of the mythology of the original franchise.
Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) is directing the as-yet-untitled film from a script by Rob Lieber, with Karen Rosenfelt producing. Pic’s slated for release by Sony Pictures on December 13, 2024.

Sony’s new Karate Kid project, which is an apparent separate entity from the popular series Cobra Kai, just got a bit of interesting casting. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Daniel Larusso himself, Ralph Macchio, will be joining Jackie Chan for the new, as of yet untitled, addition to the franchise. Earlier, it was reported that Sony had made room in their schedule for a new Karate Kid film that wasn’t intended to be a straight-up sequel to the original 1984 film nor a continuation of the Netflix show with all the legacy characters. Then it was revealed that Chan would be reprising his Mr. Han role from the 2010 remake. The inclusion of Macchio looks to be an attempt to merge the two worlds.
Additionally, Sony has also announced that there will be a global search to find the new karate kid to star in their film as the student.

There’s probably a clever German word invented to describe the increasingly common and frustrating act of spending an entire evening indecisively flicking through Netflix arguing about what to watch before just giving up and going to bed. The streaming giant has over 7,000 titles on its UK version alone, so you can be forgiven for feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all, and its recent tendency to cancel beloved Netflix Originals – some would say too soon – can leave you wondering where best to commit your time.

Empty Nets, from Iranian filmmaker Behrooz Karamizade, a love story set in a small fishing village in contemporary Iran, is also in the running for the festival’s Crystal Globe honor for best competition film.
Outside the competition, Karlovy Vary this year has put a focus on independent Iranian cinema, with a selection of recent works by directors working outside the Tehran regime.

Jackie Chan is in talks to return for the next movie in the Karate Kid franchise, per DiscussingFilm.
According to the report, the legendary action star is expected to reprise his role of Mr. Han from 2010’s The Karate Kid, a remake of the original 1984 film. In the movie, Chan played a kung fu master who mentors Jaden Smith’s 12-year-old character Dre Parker and teaches him the art of self-defense.
The upcoming Karate Kid film will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) and was announced by Sony Pictures last year. At the time, the movie was set for a June 7th, 2024 release date, but there could be production delays due to the ongoing writers strike.
Not much is known about the film, except that it’s billed as a “return to the original Karate Kid franchise.” This means that Mr. Han (and possibly Dre...

Munich-based sales agency Global Screen has acquired romantic drama “Falling Into Place” for worldwide theatrical distribution. The English-language film is written and directed by Aylin Tezel, one of Germany’s leading young actors, and stars Tezel (“7500”) and Chris Fulton (“Bridgerton”).
The directorial debut is set in Scotland on the Isle of Skye and in London. It is an honest and poetic portrait of today’s 30-somethings caught between the fear of commitment and the desire for self-improvement. Like all great love stories, it is not just about the love between two individuals, but also about the dreams and anxieties of a whole generation.
Kira and Ian, two 30-somethings, meet all too briefly over a winter weekend on the Isle of Skye and form a sudden, deep, and surprising bond. Back in London, they try to move on with their separate lives – but both have to stop running from themselves...

Kaos has been a long-time coming. Netflix first announced it had commissioned this British dark comedy reimagining Greek mythology back in 2018, but the pandemic meant that filming only started last year, and there’s already been one major cast replacement.
And even though we’re no closer to an official release date, the impressive cast list, unique premise and solid production team make Kaos well worthy of your attention.
‘Nothing Is Sacred’ in This Bold Take On Greek Myth
Set over eight one-hour episodes, Kaos is a contemporary reimagining of Greek Mythology exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld. The official synopsis describes how six humans will discover they’re part of an ancient prophecy:
“Zeus has a wrinkle. He’s worried it might mean the end of the world and it might. Because on Earth, six humans unaware of their importance or their connection to...

There’s a reason The Last of Us has been a favourite of LGBT+ gamers for a decade. When it comes to queer representation in mainstream video games – a sexually conservative branch of the arts, admittedly – The Last of Us stood head and shoulders above all its major rivals. In adapting the acclaimed post-apocaylptic story for HBO, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have, thankfully, left its queer storylines intact.
Well, “intact” may be the wrong word. Four weeks ago, the series stunned viewers with a tearjerking episode called “Long, Long Time”, in which the story pivoted away from wandering protagonists Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to focus on a 20-year love story between two middle aged men, Bill and Frank. The episode was deeply moving, and well put-together, but ended in the characters’ deaths. (This is the apocalypse after all.) Those fearing that this would be the...

Exclusive: Julie Walters has pulled out of Clarke Peters-starring Channel 4 drama Truelove due to ill health and is being replaced by Lindsay Duncan.
Truelove creators Charlie Covell (The End of The F***ing World) and Iain Weatherby (Humans), who spoke to Deadline at length about the upcoming BBC Studios-distributed show from The End of The F***ing World producer Clerkenwell Films, said they were “saddened” by the loss of Walters but “with her blessing, Lindsay has joined and we are both huge admirers.”
Filming will recommence in Bristol later this year, around nine months after the drama was put on ice due to Walters suffering from severe back pain. All cast members, including Peters, have agreed to return.
“Last year, filming on Truelove was paused while Julie Walters sought medical advice and attention for severe back pain,” said a Clerkenwell Films statement.
