Sizemore gets all three stars!

Harley Wallen's last film, Eternal Code, was recently featured on our site. Now, he's back with Abstruse, which stars Tom Sizemore (Black Hawk Down) and Dennis Haskins (Saved by the Bell). Yes, that's right - a man once implicated in the affairs of Heidi Fleiss and Mr. Belding, together at last in the same film. I don't know what took so long either!

Amanda (Kaiti Wallen, who was also in Eternal Code) Mindy and Jess get themselves into a situation when they make an adult film with two dudes named Justin and Daniel. Well, long story short, Justin chokes out Mindy but goes too far.

Justin's dad is a Senator (the aforementioned Mr. Haskins), so he gets away with it. Amanda's dad Max (Sizemore) wants to help her get revenge, but Justin is ready to kill anyone who gets in his way.

Nobody is a hero in this one and everyone has their own agenda. I'm glad to see Sizemore keeps on working, no matter the size of the film.

Without a doubt, one of the worst movies I've had the displeasure to sit through. There is absolutely NOTHING good to say about this. It was like it was written and produced by a fifth grader!!! A "10" for this? A relative, no doubt!

A very good thriller by Harley Wallen

This is probably Kris Reilly's best role as a protagonist. Harley Wallen does a good job in his acting role as well. I've been getting more impressed with Wallen's work.

Justin (Kris Reilly ) is the spoiled son of a rich senator who suddenly decides he can porno films, one in which he stars. (What part of that is a great idea.) While making the film he accidentally kills Mindy in front of two witnesses, one goes to the Lake Orion police and her father who happens to be Ted Sizemore or less. Senator and crooked work a cover-up while others are after Justin. No real twists. Rather boring plot. Sorry made-for-TV type of script.

Guide: F-word. Sex. No nudity.

Seriously whats up with reviewers and their choices nowadays? Cant believe the pickings are so slim that you would go and rate any movie > 5? This is the worst of the lot. Absolutely no coherence and zero character building. Supposedly a psycho son of a senator has a killing fetish and just randomly kills people with no compunctions, incl Mom and Dad till he gets his just desserts. Just takes so long to get there, unbelievable. Please avoid even if you are quarantined.

Abstruse is a crime thriller that will keep you guessing what will happen next. The plot grows slowly leading into an intense thrill ride that keeps your attention locked on the action. Whoever liked Eternal Code would also like Abstruse cause it's a worthy follow-up. This is a lower-budgeted affair through and through, and there are no car chases, high kicks and punches but it contains some good camerawork.

Essentially two hours of time wasted watching every predictable cliché a movie could possibly contain. Oh well. At least you have the option to fast forward, as needed.

I give two stars, since I've seen worse movies, but this one is so terrible, that all the positive reviews must be a joke, trolling ppl to make them watch this garbage. Everything about this movie is poor - plot, characters, acting, shots, music - EVERYTHING. It's not even crappy to the point, when it becomes funny, like Troma productions (e.g. Toxic Avenger). It's really sad to watch Tom Sizemore in it.

Should win a few awards.

A 12 year old's dad gifts a camera to his kid. Kid says, dad can you ask uncle Tom and the other uncles to act in my movie? My classmate has a story and we can shoot this movie in our flat. We'll make them read the dialogues from the cards and finish making the movie in about 5 hrs. Dad says OK kiddo, go ahead.

When I think of the money spent on creating this movie and the fact that it could have been far better used had it been given to charity or other good causes, it really makes you question what is going through some people's heads.

Quite early on in the film there are sections where the actors sound like they're just reading lines from the script with little depth or emotion. As for the way they behave at itimes, it's blind observance of a dire script. Your crazy friend has just suffocated a girl and you're arguing the toss and trying to reason with them rather than making your excuses and calling the cops? Who on earth would do that?

Sizemore is the one redeeming character is this wooden production, but sadly even he gets bogged down in the unconvincing delivery at times. Ultimately it's an unrewarding outing with an pedictable and unoriginal plot. Save yourself the time and watch some paint dry instead.

Anyone reading the script knows it is garbage, the director has never filmed anything more complicated than a selfie, and the entire budget is $10. The only actors they can get are going to be desperate hopefuls trying to pad their otherwise empty acting resumes. I get it. Lots of sub B-movies operate under the same limitations.

But then why hire unlikeable people? If they are off-putting and annoying in real life that's what we're going to get on film. None of them can act well enough to be anything other than themselves. Whoever cast this movie peopled it with the kind of folks you get up and move away from when they take the seat next to you for fear they may try to engage you in conversation.

Everything about this movie reeks of... actually, reeks is all that needs to be said. Zero stars.

I enjoyed all the aspects of this film! Great pacing and loved not knowing what to expect next. Wonderful performances by Tom Sizemore, Harley Wallen, Dennis Haskins and Kaiti Wallen!

Sizemore is great, Haskins is a better actor than I ever knew but there are some unknowns that are pretty awesome! I can see why it's won a ton of awards! Oh and notably strong score!

Very well written script, and solid storytelling by writer/director Harley Wallen! And I can't say enough about this phenomenal cast! It's obvious that Harley is an 'actor's director', as there is not a single weak performance to take the focus off of what's happening on the screen. He craftily weaves the story he's telling with the strong performances of his actors to create a very nice flow of suspense, drama, and danger for his audience. Tom Sizemore gives a stand out performance, which he has very deservedly won several awards for. Kaiti Wallen is very convincing as Tom Sizemore's daughter, who is victimized, but plays her role smartly, and not as a one dimensional victim. Harley Wallen is excellent as well. All the characters are completely fleshed out. I don't want to say too much, as to not give anything way, but this story has plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it!
