  • When a famous movie star travels to a small town and falls in love with a single dad, will it work out or will their different backgrounds get in the way? In Christmas in Homestead, the incredibly beautiful Taylor Cole and the handsome and sensitive Michael Rady are paired up together. They have great chemistry together, and from their first scenes together, it's easy to root for them.

While the basic story of the movie isn't the best or most complex in the world, the romance makes up for it. Plus, it's always fun to watch beautiful people on the big screen, and Taylor is gorgeous! Brooklyn Rae Silzer, Michael's daughter, is also very pretty, and her sweet personality makes you hope she'll have a career when she gets older. I have a soft spot in my heart for this movie because it reminds me of a real-life experience of mine, so since everyone has different memories, I might like this Hallmark Christmas movie more than the average Jane. Then again, if I found it accessible, you might too! Give it a try the next time it's aired on television and see if you get swept up in the romance between the beautiful actress and the small-town hotel owner.

    Warning: Spoilers
A lovely movie star comes to a small town to film a movie and falls in love with the widowed mayor / inn keeper. She is played by Taylor Cole has a classic beauty almost 1960s Hollywood that is good for romantic roles - she doesn't look silly like some other Hallmark movies. Michael Rady has a kind face and is a convincing small town mayor inn keeper.

The town looks quaint and the paparazzi invasion is a believable touch. Liked the way the ex boyfriend co star isn't a bad guy. There are a couple of plot weaknesses. The reasons for objecting to a filming in the town seem weak - most small towns need the revenue and publicity. Also doesn't really explain how they are going to handle the big city small town romance in the future.

One of the better Christmas movies.
  • This is a great family movie that has a number of different themes and some wonderful surprises. I really enjoyed the writing and plot of the story and the casting of the actors. There was more humor than I expected and even the minor characters had some good story lines. In addition, the plot took some twists that I hadn't predicted and I was left wondering about the fate of the characters until the end. The backdrop of the Christmas town was well thought out and provided a good surrounding scene for the development of the story and added that wonderful Christmas atmosphere. This is a movie worth recording on your DVR and watching while it's snowing outside and you're sitting under a blanket with a hot chocolate.
  • BEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE MOVIE. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM . I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 200 HOLIDAY FILMS. I HAVE NO AGENDA.

In 1999 Julia Roberts starred in the motion picture "Notting Hill". The plot elements from that story is stolen and used for this film "Christmas in Homestead". What is nice about this version is that it runs faster than "Notting Hill" and the Christmas theme works well.

"Christmas in Homestead" is about one of the most famous actresses in the world. Her latest film is now shooting in the Christmas- obsessed town of Homestead, Iowa, to shoot a holiday-themed movie. She is thrown for a loop when a romance brews between her and local inn keeper and single dad, Matt. She is not not a "Christmas Lover" or "Hater" she just never took the time to enjoy "Christmas".

What is a nice touch in this film is that they make leads likable. They are not adversary's that fall in love. They are two people that meet each other at the right time. Also it doesn't make Hollywood filmmakers jerks. It makes them caring people that are doing their best to keep everybody happy and not destroying "Homestead".

This is a sweet film. Worth watching
  • If you have seen your fair share of Hallmark Christmas films, like me as a big fan of the holiday, it would be safe to say that you are very likely to know what to expect and one shouldn't expect any more. Have always watched the Hallmark Christmas films, which have been many over the past few years and especially at the end of last year, with mixed expectations. That are either met and even exceeded, or the film completely misses the mark and does little with any potential.

'Christmas in Homestead' met expectations and was another one that was actually better than expected. Am not going to go as far as calling it a Christmas classic, because to me 'Christmas in Homestead' is not that and does fall short of being great. As said a few times in the past, the Hallmark festive films are a very mixed and hit and miss bunch. 'Christmas in Homestead' fares favourably if to compare and is one of the better ones.

There are many good things here. The production values are very pleasing to look at, nice use of locations slickly shot. The music generally captures the Christmas feel very well and is not near as over-scored or intrusive as too many of a lot of Hallmark films. The script can be very corny, but mostly flows nicely and has a light-hearted and sweet tone without being too sugary sweet. It's sympathetically directed without being routine, while Taylor Cole and Michael Rady are amiable leads. Brooklyn Rae Silzer is also a charming watch and doesn't come over as too cutesy.

Although the story is not exceptional and is derivative of 'Notting Hill', it is charming, is light on its feet and is heart-warming with nice use of the festive setting. It doesn't take itself too seriously that it becomes too dreary, while not treating things as too much of a joke at the same time. 'Christmas in Homestead' has characters that are likeable, with lead characters that are not annoying or stiff like they are in other Hallmark Christmas films. The leads also have a nice chemistry that is not overdone or too low-key, it doesn't move too fast or too slow either or feel forced.

Like all Hallmark festive films, 'Christmas in Homestead' is admittedly very predictable with an easily foreseeable and too neat ending. While the music is not too bad generally, it could have been used less too and been less noisy.

Some of the dialogue is as said very corny and the cheese factor in some parts is high.

Overall, nice film as long as you don't expect to be blown away as such. 7/10
  • This is my first ever IMDB review and sorry for poor English, but I leave in Eastern Europe.

Watched recently Christmas in Homestead as recommended by a family friend. My wife is a fan of Hallmark Christmas Romance movies, but while watching this she got so bored that she fell asleep, which doesn't happen very often. I still tried to resist the whole movie, as I wanted to see Taylor Cole. We watched her recently in Matching Hearts, her last movie, and she delivered an outstanding performance.

On one side, this is a typical Hallmark B movie, with poor script, low budget, things happening in slow motion (not that one would expect to see action thrillers on Hallmark, but...) and Michael Rady is a big disappointment.

On the bright side, the landscape and filming are nice, Katrina Norman is a nice surprise and the little Sophie girl is very cute. The scene when she first meets her favorite actress Jessica McEllis is epic, so is Taylor's mimic.

And then you have Taylor Cole. She is probably the most beautiful Hallmark actress, jointly with Tricia Helfer. Doesn't look at all a B-movies actress, even if I noted that she did 14 Hallmark movies in the last 6 years. Heard that she married recently. Perfect for this kind of roles.

This is a cut above the usual Hallmark fare. The reason is good casting - the actors are excellent and bring dimension to the characters.

Lots of spirit. Actress comes to town to film movie, disrupts the town and falls for the town's major, who runs the local inn. Lots and lots of Christmas decorations, customs, etc. to make this a nice cheery movie to watch while wrapping presents.
  • Normally I don't watch Taylor Cole movies. I don't find her engaging so her movies don't keep me focused. But if you like kids then watch it to see Brooklyn Rae Silzer as the mayor's daughter. She is just the cutest and most adorable kid!

The movie has a few storylines besides just on the main actors so this also makes this movie worth watching.
  • This is not what I'd call a "real" review, it's more of an observation. It may seem really small, absolutely minute to some BUT, there are others of us, who are sticklers for Christmas songs & lyrics to be sung correctly. Around the 9 minute mark, the Carolers are in town square singing, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." Near the end of the song, they leave an entire line out, a very important part of the song. Some might even say THE most important part is being left out, the true meaning of Christmas. Right after they sing,🎵With angelic host proclaim🎶, the very next line should be, 🎶*CHRIST IS BORN I N BETHLEHEM*🎵 But it's not there. Instead it goes straight into🎵Glory to the newborn King🎶 This isn't right ! Sing all of the lyrics, or just don't sing the song at all. It's highly unusual for a Hallmark Christmas movie to do this. I guess I can excuse it this time, but this can't become a habit. It absolutely cannot. Thanks for sharing your time. This is a big deal for us Christmas Carole enthusiasts. Blessings to you all.

    Cute
Although the topic has been covered many times, the movie was interesting and done fairly well. You'll find the daughter adorable and root for unlikely love to win out.
  • It's been done before with the likes of "Notting Hill" and "A Star For Christmas", but the idea of finding romance with a Hollywood star is generally something we've all thought of at least once. Channing Tatum just hasn't found me yet.

This one incorporates lots of fantastic seasonal fun in the usual quaint little town with all the same odd characters we've come to expect. It has good pace and the writing is nice too.

My favourite bit has to be the relationship that forms between the inn owner/mayors daughter and the stars bodyguard. It's incredibly sweet.

You warm to the lead female quite quickly, but there is sometimes about Michael Rady's eyes that makes him very appealing right from the start.

A great version of this tale.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Editing out the whole purpose of Hark the Herald Angels Sing turned me off due to the deliberate anti Christian edit. Pick another song if you must PC edit out the whole purpose of a song.
  • I had been watching the reviews on this one and have been skipping it the last 2 years. I think the ratings have increased from 6.0 to 6.6 over that time. Then I saw Joyous Christmas with Michael Rady and I decided to watch this one because he is also the lead. Glad I did. Taylor Cole was a great surprise. We have 2 leads that I really liked so I rate the movie high. I actually happily laughed out loud at the ending with Taylor Cole. The 10 yr old daughter was well done too. Yes there could have been more depth to the story.

    Dull
    Warning: Spoilers
As in no spark or bright spots. This one is an amalgam of Hallmarks Fish out of Water, and Country good, city bad. It had nothing to lift it up above the plethora of Christmas movies out there and make it worth your time to watch it. Sometimes you find little pearls to give a Hallmark movie watch-ability,or, very very rarely, re-watch- ability. An appealing hero or heroine, or actor or actress with a way with a line or comic timing; Good dialogue, some chemistry between the principals, an evil villain, a truly hard conflict to overcome, A plot that engages and keeps you watching in even a tiny bit of suspense (You know what's going to happen, but how will they get there?), A heart-tugging moment or some funny situations.

Taylor is undeniably beautiful, but I didn't fine her appealing. I guess I like the girl next door type that one can relate to. Even beautiful actresses can achieve that quality with good writing or good acting. The character was just boring. The hero was played by an actor that might have some potential, but he was also just commonplace, and at times acted very churlish and stupid. The daughter is a talent. She was good.

The premise wasn't bad: A movie star coming to a small town to play a movie star coming to a small town. But it just collapsed from lazy writing. They did themselves no favors by riffing on one of the most stellar romantic comedies ever made: Notting Hill. Inviting comparison (by the hero coming out the door to a storm of paparazzi and the daughter posing and mugging for the cameras)was not wise.

Not too bad as these movies go. Fairly believable and love that it was filmed in Dahlonega, GA, I only live 45 mi from there.
  • A film in the film. good looking actors and their decent performances. lovely Homestead and Christmas. a recipe so familiar than is almost predictable to define it as nice, romantic, version of Notting Hill and wise, because the child of a single father is alwazs the right choise. but this film real works . scene bz scene. as a reasonable storz about fame, familz, love, media and an impossible storz becoming realitz. and that is the best thing.
  • Warning: Spoilers
So many similarities down the the movie star being a Syfy star, just put in a cute little christmasy town. Even the 'movie' they are filming is about a movie star and a simple town guy falling in love. It is like the Rockwell painting of him painting himself in an infinity mirror.
  • 8.2 stars.

A movie star named Jessica comes to the small town of Homestead to stay at an inn owned by the mayor (Matt) and his sister (Zoe). Mayor Matt doesn't know anything about the actress, but his daughter Sophie is one of her biggest fans and she is through the roof excited, because this celebrity has decided to stay at their inn over the holidays while they shoot the final scenes of her latest film.

This is a wonderful story of a very likable mayor of a quaint Christmas-loving town, who is a bit old fashioned and skeptical.

But when he falls in love with this superstar, he will have no choice but to adapt to be someone who can handle the most difficult and challenging set of circumstances. There are paparazzi and scandals and altered plans and big inconveniences that come along with a movie star and her entourage.

This film is full of wonderful charisma, a most endearing MIchael Rady, one of his best performances (and he's had a few really good ones), his sister is so lovable, the paparazzi fellow also is hard to dislike, and the actress who portrays his daughter is brilliant. And of course Taylor Cole, who is always a pleasure to watch.

8.2 thumbs up for 'Christmas in Homestead'. On my list of favorites!

This was not a happy, upbeat Christmas movie at all. Taylor Cole's acting was terrible. She seemed moody and depressed. And her shiny, puffy cheeks were painful to look at. It's really too bad to see a lot of these actresses with this "faux puffy cheek syndrome"...Also the young daughter over acted her lines and seemed forced. No chemistry between the lead couple. That relationship felt like a disaster. The innkeeper Cloe and the photographers relationship was even more bizarre...I can not recommend this movie for a feel good holiday feeling at all.
  • She appears too phony! Her acting is not realistic!!!
