A fantastic discovery! Never thought I would like this kind of movies. Especially after a few stupid and meaningless Japanese anime in this genre that I've came across a couple of times.

Excellent animation and design, touching background of heroes, exciting events and great story makes it very addictive.

I would recommend this to anyone who like fist fights and adventures. Maybe view of blood wouldn't be pleasant for someone, but it is quite appropriate.
  • Let's get rid of the "negative" first. Lastman suffers a bit from the budget and production issues, and some parts are not as well animated as the rest. There you go, that's it.

You don't need to be a fan of the books to get the series, erveything's pretty clear. While straightforward, the story's strong and you'll be caught in the character's lives quite easily.

The humor is quite dirty but strikes really hard especially the whole 2015 french attacks reference episode. Wuat a scud. The random sex and fights serves the show's universe, whether some people like it or not. One could also argue female characters suffer a lot. While that's true, they also have a central role and i challenge you to call Tomie weak.

In the end, more than "a boxer vs demons", it's really the story of normal people versus the horros of the world, either human or supernatural. The animation is overall really solid too. This kind of shows need more support.
  • Lastman is one of those series that juggles different themes and even genres that might feel strange "on paper" but the creators knew exactly what they were doing.

Blending the type of noir storytelling with the action of the 90´s while adding mistery and fantasy, it´s on a league of it´s own and it is very refreshing. Backed with an excellent direction, animation, soundtrack, everything just works effortlessly to deliver a great adventure filled with just the right amount of character development, action and entertainment.

The show can be light hearted but knows how and when to be serious enough for you to feel engaged and deals with themes that are intended for a mature audience, while clocking at 8 mins per ep.
  • Note, this review is for the VRV version which has this in English and French subtitles as well.

Last Man is best described as unique animation with American, French, and Japanese influences. For those of you who are familiar with the comedy "Archer" this has a similar sense of humor but in a dramatic action series. Episodes have titles such as "You're an Asshole Aldona" and characters will tell others to "Get out of my mom!" Yet despite the raunchy humor there is a good story here. Richard Aldona is a lovable aimless bachelor who finds himself protecting the daughter of an old friend from a supernatural gang of sorts. It reeks of crime noir but with modern sensibilities and plenty of throwbacks to nostalgia such as Blaxploitation films, 80's music, Walk-mans, and of course 90's anime. The original French dub is the most dramatic version, while the English version is the most hilarious due to the camp factor. I like them both equally, and this comes from a person who normally prefers to watch media in their original language.

This is for someone who wants to try something new. If you are not patient with this it may be off-putting with it's unique storytelling, juvenile humor, and brutal violence. If you are open-minded however...enjoy the show!
  • This show is one of the few western animated series that I consider a competition to Avatar.

Lastman and Avatar are shows that you could probably show to an anime fan or to a person who only watches live action media and they could get into it and even have it at the top of their list

This show is just so fun and engaging that I can't do it justice with this review

    Just go watch it.

The title pretty much sums it up. I really hope there will be a season 2. It is brilliant. There are moments of touching sensitivity, bumbling charm, and extreme violence. The animation and story feels fresh and original. The characters are investable and engaging. This is a pure gem.

    10/10
    Amazing
One of the most unique shows i've ever seen. Every episode is just different. Animation is lacking but the show is too good for you to notice. Soundtrack and monster design is just exquisite.
  • This show is truly unique and special. The story is intriguing and the characters feel real. The english dub is not bad (though i would recommend watching it in french if you can) and the show never outstays its welcome with its short snappy episodes. The only issue with this series is that i ends with a cliff hanger but if your ready to read the lastman comics after the show then your really in for a treat.
  • Started our disjointed so you're forced to watch nearly 1/3 of the whole thing before things click into place. Somewhat. But then the whole worldbuilding starts to break. Main characters not acting cautiously enough allowing for the plot to move along. And Oh boy does it move. It stumbles forward like someone almost ready to fall down but just keep on putting one foot in front of the other a second before going down. Last third of the season definitely shows they didn't think pacing through and didn't count on how much story they need to cram into 27 episodes. Probably should have been 2 seasons.

Passable as an interesting animation experience. Though there's few people I'd recommend it to.
