Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. The Spider-Man film franchise started simply enough, with 2002’s “Spider-Man.” Fast forward 20 years and three different actors have played live-action versions of the Wall Crawler, with the trio joining forces in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The most recent Spidey flick wasn’t just a fun family reunion. It also led to Marvel verifying the existence of the multiverse in its live-action productions. As the former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange says in the film, “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.”
While the establishment of the multiverse has a still yet-to-be-determined impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the present it can make watching Spider-Man movies in order a little complicated.
Thankfully, there are a myriad of ways to enjoy your friendly neighborhood Spider-Men. Below is a list of the Web...

When Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios parted ways after Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony executives immediately started making plans to continue the franchise without Kevin Feige's input.
We'll likely never know what that would have entailed. However, once both sides managed to get back on good terms, the wall-crawler found himself caught up in the Multiverse with 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. That led to the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Peter Parker Variants, not to mention some familiar villains.
Sony tried to get in on the Multiversal action with Morbius. However, after cutting several confusing nods to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man franchise, the studio settled for one of the worst post-credits scenes ever which saw the Living Vampire meet The Vulture.
The idea of Venom fighting Spider-Man was teased but never followed up on and Sony has now given up on its slate of Marvel spin-offs.

M. Night Shyamalan has come out with some comments on the one defining factor of his films: the twists that define the cat and mouse game that he usually adapts in his stories. The director tried to play it off as something that might not have been in the front of his mind, but his comments suggested otherwise.

“Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” brings another iteration of the iconic comic book web-slinger to the screen. Spidey’s been swinging through the Marvel Cinematic Universe for nearly a decade and now, nine years after he made his debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” audience are getting a new story set in that same time period. Kind of.
Thanks to shifting creative priorities at the studios and behind-the-scenes corporate deals, Spider-Man has always had one of the more complicated cinematic canons as an oft-rebooted franchise header who’s also one of the only Marvel Cinematic Universe characters owned by another studio. Then the multiverse hit the MCU and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” blew open the canon even further, putting Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men in play right alongside current franchise star Tom Holland.

After Tom Holland confirmed his return as Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man, there have been reports and speculations about the upcoming film floating around the Internet. Whether it is industry scoopers giving some juicy details or fans coming up with their own theories, the untitled Spider-Man 4 seems to be a hot topic of discussion among comic book movie fans. One common belief in the community is that Zendaya’s Mj won’t have a romantic role in Peter Parker’s life anymore.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now Deadpool & Wolverine. These are some of the fantastic Marvel Cinematic Universe productions with exquisite visual effects, that have not been nominated for Best Visual Effects Oscars in their respective years.
Even before the Academy Awards ceremony occurs on March 2, any hopes that the MCU could snatch up its first Oscar in this category were crushed when Deadpool & Wolverine failed to receive a Visual Effects nod. The nominations went to Alien: Romulus, Better Man, Dune 2, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Wicked. Although Marvel Studios works with the best technical artists in the business, there is always top-notch competition every year, making their winless streak slightly justifiable. But this year does not particularly have one of the stronger lists of candidates.

A historian assesses the realism of a scene in a Jake Gyllenhaal action fantasy movie. Gyllenhaal's film debut was in the 1991 comedy City Slickers, where he played the son of Billy Crystal's character, Mitch Robbins. Several of Jake Gyllenhaal's best movies came in the following decade, beginning with Donnie Darko, in which he played the titular character. Donnie Darko did not perform well at the box office during its initial run, but has since become a cult classic, and is considered one of Gyllenhaal's defining roles.
The 2000s also saw Gyllenhaal starring in the disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow, the romantic drama Brokeback Mountain, the war movie Jarhead, and the mystery thriller Zodiac. He has continued to expand his career, including making his mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his role as the villainous Quentin Beck/Mysterio in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Disney was, for a time, the unquestioned ruler of the box office. In 2019 alone, Disney made more than $10 billion globally, becoming the first studio ever to do so. Then 2020 came and upended the movie business in a big, bad way. The pandemic shut down theaters for months on end, with the recovery happening far slower than hoped. Even so, thanks to the massive success of "Moana 2," Disney has now accomplished something that no studio has since 2019, as three of its 2024 movies have crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
With another surprisingly strong weekend in the books, "Moana 2" has now earned $1.01 billion worldwide, passing "Jurassic World Dominion" ($1 billion) as the eighth biggest movie of the pandemic era. More importantly, it now joins its fellow 2024 Disney releases "Inside Out 2" ($1.69 billion) and "Deadpool & Wolverine" ($1.33 billion) as members of the $1 billion club. No other studio had a movie cross that milestone last year,...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has, on a number of occasions, touched on or teased Marvel Comics storylines, only to waste them or otherwise ignore them completely. The MCU’s movie timeline has seen it grow from a handful of connected narratives to the biggest and most successful shared universe in cinema. Part of the key to its success has been its handling of its Marvel Comics source material, adapting select stories from the comics over the course of the franchise.
However, the movies of the MCU haven’t always been able to do justice to the stories of the comics. On multiple occasions, the MCU has hinted at specific comic storylines only to disappointingly move on from them without affording them the attention they deserve. On others still, the franchise has established elements of exciting storylines out of order, making it impossible to fully adapt some of Marvel Comics’ most exciting narratives.

It's been nearly six years since Chris Evans' Captain America retired from the MCU in Avengers: Endgame, but the erstwhile Avengers leader has been referenced every year since his departure save for one notable exception. Steve Rogers' MCU arc came to a satisfying conclusion in Avengers: Endgame when, for the first time, Steve capitalized on the opportunity to look out for number one and visit the 1940s to be with Peggy Carter. Returning to the present after having lived several decades, Rogers remains coy about his life with Peggy and bequeaths his shield and mantle to Sam Wilson.
Despite ostensibly bowing out of the MCU at this point, the Multiverse Saga has been replete with references to Cap, ensuring that his legacy endures to an extent that even exceeds that of Tony Stark. In fact, every year since has featured at least one nod to Steve Rogers, with the obvious...

Exclusive: Sony’s President of Domestic Distribution Adrian Smith is retiring after a 35-year run at the studio.
Taking over for Smith is Adam Bergerman who is being upped to President of Distribution.
Smith was named to the post in January 2013. Following the retirement of longtime Worldwide Distribution President Rory Bruer in April 2017, global duties were separated with Smith on domestic, and Steven O’Dell overseeing International.
Smith was key in the release of 1,025 films across all Sony labels, 202 of them No. 1 titles. His fingerprints are all over the successful revivals of the Bad Boys franchise, the animated Spider-Verse films, Ghostbusters, the Venom $1 billion+ series as well as the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man movies which have minted close to $4B alone. The release of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home stands as the 7th highest grossing movie of all-time, the best ever for Sony, with $1.95 billion worldwide and $814.8M domestic.

Tom Holland without a doubt stands out as the biggest fan of Spider-Man. His impressive collection of Spider-Man Funko POPs, organized in a “shrine,” tells it all. He is unapologetically buying figurines online with adult money.
The Spider-Man actor is set to join the ensemble cast of Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of The Odyssey featuring heavyweights like Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, and more. Holland also expressed his enthusiasm to star in the next highly anticipated Spider-Man installment, Spider-Man 4.

Back in 2005, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman put a superhero twist on the idea of zombie outbreaks with the five issue limited series Marvel Zombies. That series became incredibly popular and has gotten a ton of sequels and spin-offs over the years. There was a nod to it in one of the illusions on display in Spider-Man: Far from Home, and then the Marvel Zombies concept got an entire episode of Marvel’s animated Disney+ series What If…? devoted to it. That episode is leading to a full Marvel Zombies animated series, which will be rated TV-ma – and the Walt Disney Company has now reveal that the series is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 3rd.

Gwyneth Paltrow has been a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, but even she has trouble keeping track of her appearances. Starting with Iron Man, Paltrow played Pepper Potts in several films, including Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3.
Her role became smaller in later movies, with brief appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In Endgame, fans finally saw her suit up as Rescue to help fight Thanos. She was also there for Tony Stark’s emotional death scene.
Since then, Pepper Potts has been absent from the MCU. It was surprising when she didn’t appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, especially as Damage Control was shown taking over many Stark Industries assets after Peter Parker’s battle with Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Rumors are now swirling that Paltrow has signed on for Avengers: Doomsday, according to scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via ComicBookMovie.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran...even if she isn't entirely sure which Marvel Studios movies she's appeared in (the actor famously forgot that she worked alongside Tom Holland in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming).
After appearing in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3, Paltrow took on a smaller role in the MCU with supporting turns in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The latter saw her finally suit up as Rescue in a bid to help turn the tide against Thanos and his army.
It also meant she was there when Tony Stark died. Pepper hasn't been seen since, a surprise when Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Damage Control acquire many Stark Industries assets after Peter Parker's clash with Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

While Tom Holland wasn't necessarily an unknown when he was cast as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, the movie was still his big break in Hollywood.

Samuel L. Jackson spoilers Nick Fury return (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Samuel L. Jackson might’ve just let the Marvel cat out of the bag—and he didn’t even blink. Chatting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he casually mentioned juggling Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Secret Invasion at the same time. No biggie, just another day as Nick Fury!
“When I was in London just now, it was like Ant-Man and Captain Marvel 2 was happening, and we were getting ready to do Secret Invasion,” Jackson said. “So it’s like three Marvel movies on one lot. I was running around from place to place.”
Three Marvel projects? On the same lot? This guy’s Marvel’s personal superhero speedrunner. But here’s the real twist: We knew Fury would make a splash in The Marvels (Jackson already leaked that on Instagram).

What’s going on with the incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Although his adversaries Red Hulk and The Leader (as well as his ex-girlfriend Betty Ross) are known to be in Captain America: Brave New World, it doesn’t seem that he’s going to show up in the movie – and if he does, it’s likely to just be a cameo. Last time we saw him, he was still in “Smart Hulk” mode but also equipped with a Hulk Inhibitor Device that allowed him to turn back into his regular human form. He served as a mentor to his cousin Jennifer Walters on She-Hulk, where he also introduced his son Skaar. We’re likely to see him again in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars – but now, there are Rumors that Marvel may also be developing a World War Hulk movie (with George Miller in the running to direct it!

Tom Holland isn’t just our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man; he’s also Marvel’s lovable spoiler king. Keeping insider info in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is no easy feat, especially with millions of fans decoding every word.
But when you’ve got someone as honest and agitated as Holland, leaks are inevitable. The actor joined the MCU in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and from day one, fans are fond of him. His charm, vibrant energy, and devotion to the role made him the ideal Spider-Man.

He brought Peter Parker to life in a way that felt authentic and relatable. But while Holland nails his stunts and emotional scenes, there’s one thing he’s not so great at: staying tight-lipped.
Over the years, the Marvel star has unconsciously let slip substantial spoilers—from movie titles to core story arcs.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe often gets cold feet when it comes to making big changes to its world, constantly going back on the promise of major developments. As such a long-running franchise, it's no secret that the franchise has had to make certain compromises with its narrative in order to keep going, with no end in sight after 34 MCU movies. Every now and then, the series shocks audiences with a huge, exciting plot point only to quickly double back or make it irrelevant.
In many cases, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will end movies with a grand reveal that has dire implications for the story and its characters as a whole. Sadly, more often than not, these last-minute changes are quickly undone in the very next movie or episode, keeping the MCU going far into the future by not upheaving its status quo too much. Tom Holland first played Peter Parker in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and, ahead of his return to the MCU in Spider-Man 4, the actor has covered the latest issue of Men's Health.
As well as showing the actor looking insanely jacked, the magazine caught up with some of the filmmakers who have worked with him over the years. Among them was Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts.
"He just was so young and sweet, and just charming, and then in the audition, he did a full backflip, like a standing backflip, in addition to being really great on tape," he recalled. "It was like watching a video of the real Peter Parker."
Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo added, "Tom is somebody who cares a lot about other people. He has a sense of responsibility and duty. He was all the things...

Spider-Man: Far from Home was a revelatory entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for dozens of reasons, including the truth it revealed about Tony's alignment after Captain America: Civil War. Civil War saw the Avengers come to blows when disputes about how the heroes should operate began to cause contention. On one hand, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, felt strongly that the heroes needed freedom to move and operate without too much oversight to ensure they helped the most people as quickly as possible.
On the other side, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, found himself aligning with the United Nations' arguments that superheroes should be on a register, with oversight, training, and proper management. In this way, Stark hoped to prevent reckless incidents, and the loss of more casualties due to untrained heroes using excessive force and making mistakes. However, there is a major element in Spider-Man: Far From Home...

Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame was arguably the biggest emotional gut punch throughout the entire MCU - and a recent retcon helps to explain one of the more confusing stories involving his passing. Stark was the heart and soul of the MCU timeline, kicking it all off with Iron Man in 2008. Prior to his death, when he thought it was possible he wouldn't make it out alive, Tony Stark made some decisions that would change the course of MCU history forever. One particular decision was seemingly leaving out Rhodey from any of his posthumous plans.
Rhodey (War Machine) was by Tony's side from the beginning, playing a bigger role as the universe moved forward and eventually joining the Avengers. During the MCU show Secret Invasion, it was revealed that Rhodey wasn't who everyone thought he was for seemingly quite a while in the franchise, forever changing what took...

Universal’s Wicked has been performing well at the box office, even on Christmas Eve, which is usually a quiet time for movies. The film made over $3 million on that day, which marked its 33rd day in theaters.
This has helped the movie break into the top 50 highest-grossing films ever in the U.S. with over $392 million domestically; it has surpassed two major Marvel films — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Far From Home — and now sits at number 49 on the list. The movie has become a major success, especially in North America, where it resonated with audiences.
However, it hasn’t done as well internationally. This could be due to the source material, the Broadway musical Wicked, not being as well-known in other countries as it is in the U.S. Despite this, Wicked has grossed over $580 million globally, making it one of the biggest hits of the year.

Riri Williams, made her first MCU appearance in Wakanda Forever, where she helped the Wakandans to fight against Namor and his army. Okoye, a member of the Dora Milaje, appeared in Black Panther and has gone on to take part in several high-profile missions. Ying Nan was in Shang-Chi, where she was revealed to be the resident guardian of the mystical village of Ta Lo. I don’t think Valkyrie and Wong require any introduction. Quentin Beck, a master illusionist and former employee of Tony Stark, was the primary antagonist of Spider-Man: Far From Home. White Vision briefly appeared in WandaVision and has been missing from the scene ever since. In addition to all that, Eternals revealed that a Celestial was planted in the Earth’s core by Arishem, which was supposed to burst into existence in a world-ending event called the Emergence, but it was stopped by the titular team.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a stunning conclusion for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy and one of Marvel Studios' biggest hits ever!
The 2021 movie picks up immediately after the shocking cliffhanger to Spider-Man: Far From Home. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is horrified when the late Mysterio manages to release a doctored video blaming Spidey for Mysterio's own crimes. It also has him revealing his true identity as Peter Parker. That has Peter briefly arrested.
Thankfully, with aid from Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Peter was exonerated from crimes but still dealing with everyone knowing who he was. That put pressure on him, Mj (Zendaya), Ned (Jacob Batalon) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Peter was convinced that MIT wouldn't accept him or his friends because of this and needed help.

Spider-Man: Far From Home might have had one of the best twist villains in mainstream Hollywood, but it still remains one of the lesser-loved Spider-Man films to come out of the MCU. However, Tom Holland revealed the amount of work he put into the film and the bruises he suffered as a result.

The upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps could introduce a new, better version of some of their most prominent antagonists, which have been wasted in various MCU titles. Similarly to the X-Men, the Defenders, and the Inhumans, the Fantastic Four have taken a long time to make their first appearance in the MCU. Marvel just added a new twist to Iron Man's MCU origin story by filling in some of the blanks about his past, suggesting some fascinating things about the original Iron Man movie. 16 years later, Iron Man is still a cornerstone of the MCU timeline and its success, and not just because it's the movie that started it all. With figures like Ironheart, Spider-Man, and War Machine set to serve as successors to Iron Man and his legacy in upcoming MCU movies and shows, it's safe to say Iron Man's story remains key even long after the character's death.
Indeed, the franchise has proved itself adept at having releases retroactively update Iron Man's story - for example, with Stark's Edith glasses in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which Tony left to Peter Parker in the hopes the young hero would be able to use them effectively and in a moral way.

After soaring with Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has come close to face-planting more than a few times. Be it with the films that were released in the wake of Spider-Man: Far From Home, or the many shows that made landfall on Disney+, Kevin Feige might have gotten a little too cocky after toppling James Cameron’s Avatar from the top spot, way back in 2019.

The MCU Spider-Man 4's tone won't be an issue if it borrows a page from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's book. Like many other Marvel characters, Spider-Man has always been a street-level hero as much as he has been a larger-than-life superhero. One day Spider-Man is struggling against villains like Kraven, Vulture, Hammerhead, and Tarantula, and the other he's battling Thanos and Doctor Doom with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.
After Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending left Tom Holland's Peter Parker alone and forgotten by everyone, Spider-Man's MCU journey seems to be heading toward a more subdued sequel, where Spidey focuses on being a Friendly Neighborhood vigilante instead of a world-saving superhero. On the other hand, Spider-Man 4's release date might fall between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in Phase 6, meaning that the McU's fourth Spider-Man installment may have to tie into both Avengers movies' multiversal plot.

This likely comes as a result of not only the commercial failures of several movies in the franchise but also due to their critical reception, with the ranking of Sony Spider-Man Universe movies often seeing them deemed inferior to their MCU counterparts.
Naturally, attention now turns to the other upcoming Spider-Man movies in development. Be it the final installment of the Spider-Verse trilogy or the McU's Spider-Man 4 story, the future of the Web-Slinger still looks promising despite the failure of Sony's live-action franchise. When looking at the McU's Spider-Man in particular, a tease that was first included in the franchise seven years ago may now be more possible than ever thanks to the conclusion of Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

What If...? returns with its third and final season this weekend and Marvel Animation has today shared the episode descriptions and credits for every episode.
There are some significant reveals here, though the biggest is Mysterio's role in "What If...The Emergence destroyed the Earth?" With the planet no more, it appears Quentin Beck finds a way to take charge of what's left; could a Spider-Man: Far From Home retcon be in the works establishing him as a Multiversal threat?
We wouldn't bank on it but in this reality, he must have survived the events of that movie and become more than just a con man out to steal Tony Stark's technology.
Beyond that, most of these episodes sound like fun, throwaway adventures and a couple really stretch the "What If...?" premise. However, the final two episodes sound pretty monumental and could have a major impact on the...
