Awakening of 12 Strands

Awakening of 12 Strands by Sandra Daroy is an interesting Indie film – difficult to categorise in only a few words but certainly not a film for a mindless couple of hours of attention-less entertainment. Ms Daroy makes you work to get full benefit from it. A second watching is essential to grasp the underlying message which, in some respects is quite simple, but with numerous parallel strands of provoking detail running through it.

The film has clearly been produced on a small budget – you would not mistake this for a Hollywood blockbuster – but this serves to provide some raw grit, quite appealing in a certain sense, and doesn't detract from the message of the film if the viewer stays focused. A casual viewer may not fully appreciate those multiple messages and I would suggest that all viewers ensure they do have the commitment to take in the meaning before embarking on watching it. It's not a film to watch just part of.

The story appears at least partially autobiographical and in parts gives the sense of moving along in a dream-like trance, other times in stark clarity, suggesting the main message is about a transition from living a life without an understanding of its meaning to an awakening consciousness, although numerous other messages are there to be extracted.

For the observant viewer there are some fun Easter eggs. There are a number of unexpected cameo appearances – Peter Padget for example is an actual former British secret agent and appears on television in the film. The name of the clinic doctor – Dr Wilcock – surely cannot be a coincidence….

For me, the film was enjoyable. Overall, I would compare it to a good education - worthwhile, but not for the faint-hearted.

Awakening of 12 Strands is a film i came across in 2018 and being someone who enjoy's movies that have something deeper and more meaningful to say, i can wholeheartedly proclaim that this film ticked all the right boxes for me.

Before even getting into the film, i find it quite incredible that the woman behind the creation of this gem of a film, Sandra Daroy, wrote the story, did the screenplay, directing, searched for scene locations, did the casting for actors, prepared the scene locations, makeup, training actors before scenes, microphone and camera work and last but not least the editing, and to think.. the budget for this film was ZERO!! You can really tell that the movie was Sandra's labor of love and i commend her for the sheer breadth of work and time that went into the creation of Awakening of 12 Strands.

The film itself, is an incredibly captivating journey of self discovery or self realization, and seems semi-autobiographical. I resonated with the main character's role, played by Sandra herself, as it echoed so closely my own path of, shall we say, awakening from the matrix around us, and all of the stages one may go through when you realize there is far more to reality than meets the eye and what we were brought up and educated about.

This is a multi-dimensional film, one for the seekers and those who are on any kind of spiritual journey, which is not in my experience a path full of roses and all love and light, but is much more like walking on a razor's edge and having to make extremely tough decisions to change one's course in life and venture more into the unknown, and these are the elements that Sandra captures so brilliantly in the film.

There are so many scene's that i found myself saying "oh wow, she went through this stage too" and "i remember being guided to buy that Manly Palmer Hall book (the secret teachings of all ages), or look into that esoteric subject or this conspiracy. I'm also a massive David Lynch fan, and at times it felt like i was watching something similar to his work. The soundtrack seems to fit perfectly with the mysterious, the esoteric, the way the world is really run and at the same time, the beautifully mystical and even revelatory experiences one can have on such a journey, as was taken by the main character.

This film is not the next Hollywood action flick that everyone forgets about a week later, no.. Awakening of 12 Strands is a film that will get you thinking for weeks and months after watching, and i can almost guarantee, if you like a film with depth, with meaning and one that has many layers to discover, then you will come back for multiple viewings. I myself have enjoyed the film many times!
