  • after the funny but bland premier episode of this show I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it or not but gave it a second chance and I wound up glad I did I laughed and had a great time watching this everyone is pretty much likable here his 'boys' are hilarious and his moma is quote worthy and lovable and I adore lea Michele here she is beautiful and hilarious even Courtney himself is likable I recommend trying this one out if your looking for good family fun on Tuesday night
  • I actually liked the idea of the show and how it all started. It looks original and the comedy type is constructive and nice, maybe not Hilarious but still enjoyable and even fast in some scenes, i can see where the events are escalating to and that makes me a bit more hopeful that it'll go well maybe even for just a couple of more seasons if they kept this steadily rising rhythm. I've just read the ratings of this premiere and they looks pretty promising.

The plot is genuine and has so much potentials and could branch out to other significant sub-plots, talks about a struggling rapper who seeks popularity and apparently the "obvious" choice is why not run for Mayor, after not expecting to win he actually did and now it is his mission to keep his promises to the people to fix the town.

As for the casting, i loved that Yvette Nicole Brown is here,, watched her in Community and i loved her , i know she'll be amazing here even if the role is not extended. Brandon Micheal Hall is really funny and with his two other mates they are making a good relatable type of comedic friendship. also Lea Michele is good "personally i don't like her type of acting" i saw her in "Scream Queens" and she was "Meh" but here she could polish herself into something.

To conclude, it is not hilarious but is indeed enjoyable and i had that type of inside giggle on some scenes, so i think i'd watch where they're going next.
  • after watching the first episode I have mixed feelings here I feel like this is a heartfelt sweet show that's really trying and if continues going in this direction we are in for a very nice show here however this isn't a perfect show there isn't enough comedy in my opinion for it to fit in the category of a comedy however its too much fun to be a drama its like it hasn't yet decided what it wants to be but I will wait and see what happens and plus I have a huge crush on lea Michele now just like before when I saw her for the first time I would watch the shown for her alone if I had too but I hope the show progresses as it goes on I have faith in THE MAYOR

In the downtrodden community of Fort Grey, Cal, aspiring rapper Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall) runs for mayor to promote his music. T.K. Clifton (Marcel Spears) and Jermaine Leforge (Bernard David Jones) are his best friends and entourage. He lives with his postal worker mom Dina Rose (Yvette Nicole Brown). Former schoolmate Valentina Barella (Lea Michele) runs the opponent's campaign. With Courtney's shocking victory, Valentina volunteers to run his office. Corrupt councilman Ed Gunt (David Spade) is a political rival.

The cast is amiable and the characters are sweet enough. Often, Courtney learns a lesson and grows as a character. Spade provides a good sleazy villain. It probably could have done something if given more time. The network cancels it after making 13 episodes. I actually expected it to stretch out the campaigning for the first year. That has great potential and the season could have ended with his surprise victory. Instead, this quickly turns into a standard sitcom. I'm not sure about creator Jeremy Bronson's intentions but he definitely stumbled upon a more uplifting portrayal of small city politics. It's got the underdog aspect and the feel-good lesson of the week.
  • There is a reason Lea Michele is no longer on TV and this is as good a reason as any. She may be a decent singer and a passable Broadway actress (over theatrical) but she is horrible on TV and in movies.

This project looked like another attempt to structure something around her. It doesn't work! The other actors in this show were just as bad. Very stiff and very predictable. Even David Spade could not save it! This was a waste of time watching and a greater waste of money making it!
  • Can you imagine, a single foul mouthed ABC sitcom show with tons of profanity being uncensored at every episode? Ugh! No, I wouldn't recommend watching thus piece of crap, it shouldn't be rated TV PG, it should be rated TV 14 or TV MA for persuasive swearing! I'm not sure if the swearing is censored or not, but I'm not a big fan of hip hop music anyways, so yeah, better forget it and just stick watching AFV or something else!
  • Well at first I thought that I wouldn't keep watching it, but since it only had a one season, I decided to give it a try. It could have been better, yes, but it was still interesting. It had the same plot almost every episode, but the plot was interesting. But I do understand why they didn't get a second season, there wasn't really anything new they could've given to people, the plot would've still be the same every episode.

This show is insulting. It feels like a paint by numbers for white people to get a feel for an 'urban setting' with none of the danger or threat of it. The characters are stereotypes from yesteryear that feel out of place and just bad to the point of pandering.

Like they wanted the demographic of 20-mid 30 something millennials in America who think everything is 'lit' to be the audience for this show, and it shows. This show jumps the line between borderline incompetent to absolutely insulting with how it showcases anything.

Lea Michele is just awful. She comes across as flat and lifeless to the point that you wonder how she functions in the setting they've thrown her in. The supporting cast is just lifeless and it feels like what some kid who was born and raised in upper middle class assumes how us 'lowly black folk' talk. Like we don't have common sense.

Someone, somewhere, thought this was a good idea for somebody. I've seen my fair share of young African-American's trying to get into politics plagued by the identity that everyone assumes THIS is how we act.

I get that the painfully written show is going to end up with - SPOILERZ The young black man suddenly realizing how serious being a mayor is after the fact and turning out to be good for his community, just like all black people should, would, and could behave in fictional poorly written fantasy SPOILERZ- But come on. No one sat down and felt like this would be a bit insulting?

This feels like someone watched Atlanta, didn't understand that Donald Glover's character is meant to play the straight man to a situation in which everyone knows is a bit crazy, and all character growth is tossed out the window to get some of those cool songs that the kids all listen to.

Also, just saying you shouldn't be able to get the feeling that a show is written by out of touch people who think this is how the world works or would be entertained with the first episode. Felt like the Mindy Project met Blacklish and some random Jewish writers got on board to show their interpretation of the 'streets'.
  • What a great show! I was flipping channels and found the series premiere tonight and was absolutely delighted by this comedy. Brandon Micheal Hall is a charming, fast talking, sightly self-centered Courtney Rose. Courtney, by trying to promote his music with his run for office, ends up the mayor of his town.

This comedy has a lot of heart, and the heart and common sense are centered in Courtney's mom, played by Yvette Nicole Brown. She is fabulous! She reels in her son when he goes too far, and gives him the inspiration and advice and firm talking-to he needs--along with a lot of love and confidence. What a great mom.

I was disappointed tonight when I flipped to this show and came here to IMDb. I wanted to find out a little more about it, and I saw that 42 people had rated show for an average of 5.6 before the show even aired. Come on, people, don't do that to this delightful show. Give it a shot. you'll laugh, you'll think, and you'll feel good when it is done.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Synopsis: Teenager likes to rap, accidentally becomes Mayor of a somewhat rundown town.

That whole process was presented in the Pilot, which wasn't funny at all. The pilot wasn't captivating, wasn't deep nor was it entertaining, and what is to come seems fairly predictable. Many pitfalls, many life lessons, many disappointed people, but in the end of the day it all works out, and he gets to rap too.

Perhaps I am not the intended audience, but also the 16 year old me would not have watched this. It is simply too flat, too 'fake' and lacks soul, lacks a whole lot of soul.
  • OK I have been watching this over the past few weeks now and though at first I didn't care for it I have completely changed my tune after last night its one of the funniest comedies this fall and it only seems to be going up from where it is now I cant wait to see more I adore this guys momma she is quotable hilarious and tells it like it is and as for lea Michele she is just as charming and beautiful as ever you got to love her latten flavor but I totally recommend this program to anyone a simply hilarious comedy
  • ...and even failing at that. I am glad people finally moved on from her.

    Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why this show is getting so much hate! Well, I take that back, i actually do understand. Its the people who hate the modern shows for lacking the same nostalgic feel that older shows have. Well that takes time! If you give this show a little time to mature it will surprise you. Its going to go through a little trial and error before it blossoms into what could be a decent show. This series is trying to show kids that they DO have a voice in this country, even if they are still young. Americas political system is full of old farts who just don't care about anything that doesn't involve their wallets, and that is what this show preaches. An Example of this is the second episode when The Mayor/rapper finds out that the city council plans on cutting the music program. He then finds out making change in society is not as easy as he thought and then by the end of the episode what ends up saving the music program is people calling in and voicing their opinion. Even though it has a bit of a slow start, this show has a lot of potential to become something more than just a show. It could possibly give its audience a glimpse of how young people think nowadays while also hopefully giving people a reason to speak up and NOT let the world just burn.

This very funny series involves a young rapper who runs for mayor as a publicity gimmick and wins with a bold vision undercut by his complete absence of sincere commitment and political know-how.

This is a kind of weird show to come out the year we have the same situation with our president Trump, but this kid has something Trump lacks, sensible, moral advisers in the person of his mom and whatever Lea Michelle's job title is.

I found the first two episodes very funny, and the mayor and his best buds are wonderfully likable. my only criticism is that the series is essentially three likable boys mothered by two sensible women; it's not a series that thinks outside of the box.

    Still, I really like it.
  • I watched the first episode of this and all in all I was pleased with what I saw there were some funny moments and some serious too I loved the gorgeous lea Michele she is just too sexy for her own damn good and I liked the story and lesson of how some times doing things for the wrong reason can have cocequinces and the mother is perfect love yevet nichole brown as it is but here she just seems fantastic I will wait till next week to make my full decision
  • This show is funny, adorable, cute, inspiring, positive. Everything we want in a sitcom. One I can actually watch with kids. If ABC can keep all of those obnoxious "bachelor" shows, they can definitely bring this one back!!!
