Based on the absurd but true 1973 bank heist and hostage crisis in Stockholm that was documented in the New Yorker as the origins of the 'Stockholm Syndrome'.
All actual names, excepting the name of then Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme (who was assassinated in an unrelated 1986 crime), have been changed for this movie due to many of the actual persons being depicted in the film still being alive while the screenplay was being written.
Do I look like a rapist?
The police uniforms are wrong. Most notable are the shoulder belts that does not cross the chest as they are supposed to, nor do they have the reflective stripe that was used at the time. Further, the gun holster was attached with clips and hung freely from the bottom of the belt, not sitting on top of it. All in all the police looks like they're wearing fantasy uniforms.
