Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey, a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem.
The film has drawn a lot of comparisons to another 2018 film Venom (2018) but Leigh Whannell said he was not familiar with the comic book character before writing the film. Interestingly the lead actors of both films Logan Marshall-Green and Tom Hardy bear a striking resemblance to each other.
See, you thought I was a cripple but you didn't know that I'm a ninja.
Stem: While I am state of the art, I am not a ninja.
During the car chase scene between Grey and Cortez you can notice road signs that are facing the wrong way. This is because the roads in Australia, where Upgrade was filmed, are opposite to American roads. Most notably, you can see that one of the signs is a Victoria Roads Help Phone sign.
In lieu of text, the production companies and title are instead narrated by an artificial female voice, represented visually by sound waves.
