A former wrestler and his family make a living performing at small venues around the country while his kids dream of joining World Wrestling Entertainment.
Stunt doubles for the wrestling scenes were done by Thea Trinidad (ring name: Zelina Vega), who portrays AJ Lee, and Tessa Blanchard, who portrays Paige, in ring. Vega made her own debut in WWE shortly after the filming of this film. Blanchard performed in WWE's inaugural Mae Young Classic all-women's wrestling tournament in 2017. And then went on to become one of the most respected female wrestlers on the independent scene.
Paige, I myself have come from a wrestling family too. I know exactly what it means to you. But don't worry about being the next me. Be the first you.
In the film, Paige is recruited to NXT in Orlando. But at the time Paige was actually signed, NXT didn't exist yet. WWE's developmental league was called FCW (Florida Championship Wrestling) and was based out of Tampa. NXT and the WWE performance center opened in Orlando well after Paige was first signed.
The scenes over the end credits come from the 2012 UK Channel 4 documentary 'The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family'. This is supposedly the documentary The Rock saw that got him interested in producing a film about Paige's story.
