I love how 99% of the show takes place at the school, and plots don't get too convoluted. There aren't too many main characters to gum up the show either. It's funny, family-friendly, non-preachy, and of a good nature. TV needs more shows like this and fewer shows about people who are jerks.
  • Okay so i haven't watched the goldburgs in awhile but i used to love them then i saw the preivews for this show and thought i'd try it the show is funny no doubt but judging by the first episode its nothing like the goldburgs humor is this a problem??it could run into a problem but as of now laniey has enough spunk and humor to hold her own so its no goldburgs or even single parents 'a hilarious new comedy' but its very well worth it

I was a huge fan of the Goldbergs for a while. I thought it started lacking and that they were running out of ideas. I think that the episode of Goldbergs right before this was one of the best episodes. I liked this too. The pilot was very funny and full of heart. I loved this and am excited to see future episodes. The characters especially coach are great. They can explore many new ideas and I think can go on for as long as the Goldbergs.
  • ABC not renew this, but they did other shows that worse. IABC like other networks do not care what people want. Its all about color of skin and not what people want. It was a good program! and should be on!
  • It's 1990 something in this spin-off of The Goldbergs. Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka) returns to William Penn Academy after failing to make it in the music world. Principal Glascott (Tim Meadows) gives her a job as the music teacher with a push from Beverly Goldberg. Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) is still the PE teacher. C.B. is the cute try-hard teacher.

This is a solid single gal sitcom or at least it should be. There is a central issue with the single part, Lainey's relationship with Barry Goldberg. It complicates the show and the show's central relationship of Lainey with C.B. It muddies the waters in that Goldbergs fans love the Barry-Lainey coupling. It's a beauty and the beast story, and we would hope for them to live happily ever after. In the two shows, they do have their ups and downs. Outside of that, the show has most of the ingredients. Coach Mellor continues to be a great side character and mentor. Tim Meadows is a comedy veteran and I like Michalka as the lead. She has great comedic instincts and timing. She does need a best girlfriend on the show. Wilma does join the show in the second season and she eventually gets there but it's a long trip to get there. I do wonder if a Barry-Lainey show could have worked.
  • It's not the goldbergs but it's not bad at all. It's entertaining and can become something great. Not sure if they can make every episode interesting! Let's see! I'll be there watching

Loves this show!!! Always enjoyed watching after the Goldbergs!! Sucks that it was cancelled!! With all of the garbage on tv there will be a void!!!
  • It's always hard to judge a show by the first episode. But it's definitely a step up from "1990 Something."
  • He's so funny. I giggle like a 12 year old school girl with a crush. Fabulous idea for a spinoff.

It's still a funny show, like The Goldberg's and I was worried that it wouldn't be. It's early days at the moment and the show will get better if it gets another season. So far, it's not bad at all but it's not great and I can understand why. I'm sure if this show gets another season and as the characters develop, the stories will get better.

I would recommend watching it, it's easy and fun to watch.

And I'm glad Bryan Callen is on it, Coach Mellor is a great character! And Callen has a cool voice.
  • Schooled is the New Coke to the Goldbergs' Coke Classic. Plus, it's a little flat.
  • I don't get why this show was cancelled. I really loved it. I started watching 'The Goldbergs' after watching 'Schooled' and I just don't get why people think 'Goldbergs' is so much better. Every episode of 'Schooled' had me laughing the entire time... 'Goldbergs' has it's moments but I don't find it all that hilarious. I'm hoping some streaming service picks it up but it's doubtful.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Schooled has seamlessly moved into the time slot immediately after The Goldbergs to which Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka) was first introduced to us as the love of Barry Goldberg's high school life. In this new series Lainey Lewis has now grown up in the past decade and the series takes place in the 1980's. Now as an adult, Lainey finds a job at her old high school as the music teacher to gain real employment for the first time.

I am not sure if the producers intend to make Schooled a clone of the Goldbergs or more of a stand-alone comedy series. In the opening episode there are a few of the same characters that appear in both the Goldbergs as well as in Schooled. For example Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) is still coaching basketball and he lends a helping hand to the new kid/teacher Lainey Lewis on teaching her what feels good in her heart and turn off the background noise. The principal, Mr. Glascott (Tim Meadows) is also at the school and there are cameos by Earl Ball (Stephen Tobolowsky) and even crazy hair and sweater mom Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey). Now the Goldberg stars may be making periodic appearances just to ensure that the fan base of the Goldbergs don't turn the channel too soon.

Time will tell if Lainey Lewis (A J Michalka) can find a home of her own in this new TV series Schooled but I for one will hang in there for a few more episodes and see what this new school year brings in the form of family entertainment and light comedy.

I give the opening episode a 7 out of 10 rating
  • This is the Goldberg's minus everything that makes the Goldberg's a hit show. Lainy? I think that's how it's spelt....is not fit for lead. Sorry hun. The primordial soup that gave life to this show is just missing too many ingredients. Doomed to fail. Or maybe like "The Middle" will be on TV for some kind of inexplicable long length of time, but my guess there's no season 2, if it even makes it through the first. Spinoffs are usually failures. This is no exception. Chuck Lorre the spinoff King was lucky with "Sheldon" to be able to create a show from a show that can actually stand on its own. This is not that. Take the time and money wasted on this show and make something worthwhile, or hell, give it to me I'll make better use of it buying fast cars booze and drugs. This show is horrible unwatchable nonsense. I gave it a 1 star to help counter the fake self promoting reviews on IMDb. It's really about a 3.
  • I like the character of Lainy and the gal who plays her; but... why give the 2 lamest people at school much bigger roles than they merit? Why didn't they follow the 'Blackish' example and give a show to the multi-talented teen daughter, 'Erica Goldberg'? she's a better actress, and a very good singer. I can't see this show lasting very long?

As someone who grew up in the 90s, a lot of these events are still easy to remember. Early in the season they talk about the movie "She's All That" which was released in 1999. Nest episode was gigapets which were popular in therestaurant 97-98 school year. And then to mess up the timeline even more, the next episode is the Tanya Harding attacks Nancy Kerrigan situation. That was 1994. What year is this show supposed to take place? Will next season by class of 2000?

7 stars just for Callen and Meadows and any other Goldberg appearance.
  • This show reminds me why I became a teacher and makes me want to better and better at my profession every day.
  • 'Schooled' can stand on its own. From an educational standpoint, there is a great deal in the sit-com that could NEVER take place in a school. Then again, as in REAL life, there are some very strange events which do occur and would make teaching more enjoyable for many, if humor was only displayed! Did anyone else notice that Tim Meadows is again playing the same type of Principal from 'Mean Girls'??!

Renew for 2nd season. It's great! Super funny and the cast is great.
  • Warning: Spoilers
First, let me say that I am a huge fan of the goldbergs. It's one of my favorite shows. When I heard they were doing a spin-off on Lainey, it seemed kind of weird to me but I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. Well after watching the first couple episodes, it's clear that this will be a short series. Lainey does not make a good lead. Her dialogue is unfunny and some of what she does does not make sense. Like even though the principal has been teaching more than a decade longer than her, she is trying to teach him how to be a better principal? That doesn't even make sense. The narration is also annoying. It written in a way that is very soap opera.
  • The "she's all that" episode was nostalgic. Only thing I dont get is what year is it first episode the bring up grunge music the next they bring up She's all that which came out January 29 1999. To completely different eras in the 90s. Then they play with Gigga pets which was around 97 98. The timeline is a little all over the place.
  • Coach Miller really shines in this, however everyone else is flat-lining. The Goldbergs is an awesome show but this one falls very short from the usually feel-good drama. You leave not wanting more, but the feeling of watching nothing.
  • Bryan callen carries the show. Great job man! Hopefully they keep the ratings up!
  • Okay so after the first episode of this I must say while it's no Goldberg's thanks to the leading lady herself there are several funny moments the show falls flat I won't lie however it's just the first episode and I do love Laney so that's what I can say is she's everything about this show including what it wants to be. Her snarky comebacks her spunk it's it's warchable only thanks to her

    Warning: Spoilers
Was initially confused with what I was watching, as I thought it was a new episode of the Goldbergs, but quickly figured out it was a pilot for a new spin-off. This is a continuation of the Goldbergs set in the 90's with Coach and Tim Meadow's character at the center of the series. There is great potential here, but I find the family being followed to in no way be as endearing as the Goldbergs and the episode culminating in an entire school singing to a Backstreet Boys song is incredibly unbelievable. The Goldbergs has some real heart, as it's centered around Adam's real childhood memories. This series is not based in anyone's reality and I believe the Goldberg creators are just plain out of their element working in the medium of this decade. Stick to the 80's and to characters that we can care about.
