Circa 1969, several strangers, most with a secret to bury, meet by chance at Lake Tahoe's El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one night, everyone will show their true colors - before everything goes to hell.
Based on the state divide down the middle of the hotel, the El Royale faces south.
The bank robbery is done outside of Stockton, on a snowy day. The Stockton area averages zero inches of snow per year.
There are almost no opening credits. Only the film's title is shown after the first scene.
