In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing.
In the basement scene towards the end, a few frames of newspaper cuttings are visible. One of these clearly states 'Multiple Landing Sites' as a headline, alluding directly to the origin of the monster species being from space.
It's a boy.
Evelyn: It's a boy.
While pregnant, Evelyn uses a stethoscope to listen to the baby's heart in the womb. This may be difficult with a regular stethoscope but not impossible. There is a specialized type of stethoscope called a fetoscope which is simply a different shaped stethoscope but functions similarly. A doppler is more commonly used in today's hospitals to hear the fetus' heartbeat. However, with effort, a regular stethoscope can hear a fetal heartbeat.
The main title appears after about nine minutes, created to look as though it is made from sand, and is the only on-screen credit aside from the opening production logos.
