  • ... made even more challenging under certain circumstance, but these guys rise to the challenge and inspire to overcome them.

With equal amounts of tears as laughter, three guys, each with their own physical hurdles to overcome, embark on a road trip that will leave you truly inspired and courageous enough to tackle any impediment of your own. Our vulnerabilities and fears are what define our heroism.
  • I remember seeing the documentary about three guys going to a brothel in Spain. That was turned in to a very funny and sad Belgium film. I have to agree with some of the other posters, it's disappointing to see able-bodied actors playing disabled parts. Whilst the film does its best to address issues And difficulties of being a disabled person, they seem to forget that going on a road trip involves having showers and going to the toilet.

Speaking as somebody who is in a wheelchair it would be virtually impossible to take on trips like this without the aid of a carer. Having said that bearing in mind there are very few films about disability out there This does at At least show some of the frustrations and inability to fit into society being a disabled person.

Scott, matt, and mo are three handicapped guys, getting therapy at the same place. To get a little tail, they hire a van and a nurse to check out a place in montreal that caters to the handicapped. Of course, everything goes wrong, but they are determined to get there. Great story. Humor, some raw truth. Some sadness, but that is part of life. Stick around for the credits... there's a bonus clip in there. Based on the 2011 film come as you are, which was written by asta philpot; he actually experienced some of this while in spain, and wrote the films describing it. Check out his story on wikipedia dot org. It's really good. A fair amount of cussing and adult themes, so not for the kids.
  • This film is funny, engaging and touching all at the same time. It brings a widely neglected issue into the spotlight, which I'm thankful for. I enjoyed every minute of it. Watch it if you can!
  • A very light, passionate movie about 3 friends with different disabilities in pursue of exploration of a world they only heard of. A trip full of joy, deep insight into life and what really matters. I've enjoyed it much. Lovely cast and beautiful screenplay.
  • On the plus side of the equation is the well intentioned effort to demonstrate that disabled dudes are every bit as much horn-dogs as their able-bodied counterparts.. and that people are people .. and that people long to be accepted. With a little bit more time & budget it could probably been further nuanced with pacing of the dialogue between characters. All in all I applaud the effort.. especially the casting.. which may ultimately be the most compelling aspect of this film!
  • The sad part is that this is a copy/paste movie after Hasta la vista, 2011.

The good part is that it's in English.

Laughed a lot during the entire movie. The cast was just naturally funny, the story was nice and even touching in the end. Definitely recommend this movie! 9/10.

    Overall rating 66/100

Come as you are is about three disabled adults who are desperate to lose their virginity, but haven't had the opportunities to due to their limitations, so they all team together to travel to a brothel that specialises in people like them, where they will learn the true meaning of friendship. I wanted to like Come as you are a whole lot more than what I did, It had all the right ingredients just fell apart with the plot and lack of emotional connection to the movie, let's talk about this more in detail.

First of all, the movie was very funny. Had unique characters that aren't usually used in comedies, was inclusive and normalised disability. I loved that this movie had unique characters that aren't usually explored within a comedy with fear of offending people, it was really refreshing to have the whole main cast having some form of disability, this is because they could have jokes between them rarely used In other comedies out of fear of offending people but in this case it was very different, so the characters were refreshing and well explored throughout the movie, the movie was also very inclusive and normalised disability, this movie was not afraid to have characters with all sorts of disabilities, body shapes and capabilities, which was lovely to see, they didn't make it a big deal either which is the message they should be spreading with normalising disability, and seeing it through the characters perspectives in the film helped me gain a deeper understanding of what people with disabilities have to go through. The movie was also hilarious, I belly laughed on multiple occasions, the movies sarcastic humour and characters taking the mick out of themselves was a type of humour that I haven't seen a lot before so it was nice to see, with many awkward situations involving their disabilities involved with the characters were very funny as well.

My next few positives would be the likeable characters, character depth to the main character and good character background. Every single one of the characters had very likeable qualities to them, all three main characters had different and likeable personalities, with a great mixture of sensitive, funny and charming that all blended really well, I also appreciated the amount of depth they added to the main character, to see how much he struggled and wanted his independence but knowing his restrictions, was heart-breaking to watch and it really made you understand what his character was going through and the reasoning for his actions throughout the movie. I also liked the character background they put in for all the characters. The movie spent a good amount of time making you understand each of the characters and the dynamic with their families, all three having different experiences with their disabilities and different limitations was explored well.

However, my first few negatives would be the rushed beginning with a lack of character background and how predictable it was. They didn't allow any room for any form of background to the characters at the beginning and didn't give the movie enough room to breathe and just went straight into the main plot point which I personally didn't like. I also thought the movie was fairly predictable in parts, there was parts were some characters couldn't take part in the main plot point due to being in relationships, so it was obvious what it was going to happen and made parts feel rushed and it lacked deep enough thought.

My final few positives would be the charming tone, script, development of plot and characters and satisfying ending. The movie had a very charming tone, in terms of the growing connection between all the characters, and their relationships developing was just heart-warming to watch. The script was also excellent, and for me one of the best parts of the movies, the movie had so much clever and thoughtful dialogue that really made you understand the characters and a deeper understanding of people with disabilities. I also really liked the development of plot and characters, I really loved what the movie changed into, instead of a movie about three people going to a brothel and having sex, the plot developed and changed into a story about friendship and appreciating life which I loved, and I loved how all the characters had some form of change as the movie progressed and as everyone grew closer. The ending was also very satisfying, I loved that despite still going to the brothel the aftermath of this was handled very well and made the characters much more likeable and made things a lot more satisfying, they made the right decisions with the relationships with the characters and it was handled better than what I was expecting.

My final few negatives would be the main plot getting tired, the lack of depth to the characters or themes, and the questionable character decisions. The movie made some odd questionable decisions with the main character. Some things he said during the movie to some of the characters made him fairly unlikeable in places and the movie didn't try hard enough to make him more likeable. I also thought the main plot point of the characters going to a brothel got really tired for me and I wish they had gone for something different. With the amount of drama it caused for the characters they should have been going somewhere more important than a brothel. My final negative would be the lack of depth to the characters and themes, this was my biggest issue with the film, I was never emotionally connected to it whatsoever. Whenever there was something bad or a deep theme trying to be portrayed to the audience, they touched on the surface off It and never went deeper, making my connection to the characters and the film itself very limited.

Overall, despite a fantastic script, and characters that are so often forgotten about in film get the spotlight they deserve, I was never connected to the movie, due to it's unprofessional way of handling deep themes and often playing it safe.
  • Come As You Are was a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect much of it, thought it was going to be an average movie but it turned out to be quite the opposite. There is not much bad to write about this movie, or at least I didn't see anything bad about it. The acting was really good, and that from the whole cast. Playing a disabled person is not the easiest character to portray but I actually had to check if they were really disabled in real life, that's how good they played that role. The humor was excellent, just the right amount combined with some melodramatic moments made Come As You Are a movie full of emotions. Good job from Erik Linthorst, he wrote an enjoyable and moral uplifting story. Certainly a movie I would recommend and that I will watch again in the future.
  • Come As You Are delves into the lives of individuals grappling with disabilities, weaving a tapestry of humor and sorrow. The film's moving narrative exposes the harsh realities faced by its protagonists, evoking a profound sense of empathy from the audience.

While the movie tugs at heartstrings with its deeply emotional moments, it doesn't shy away from incorporating humor. However, some may find that the comedic elements occasionally lean towards the childish and immature, detracting from the overall impact.

Initially, the characters may come across as somewhat unlikable. Yet, as the story unfolds and we witness the daily struggles they endure, our perceptions gradually shift. Their vulnerabilities and resilience shine through, drawing us closer to their journey.

The movie is undeniably a sad tale, yet it's also a testament to the strength found in camaraderie and the human spirit. It's a film that resonates long after the credits roll, urging viewers to reconsider their perceptions of disability and embrace the beauty of diversity.
  • The subject stated that all, it's not as funny as the reviews been stated. If you feel it's funny cuz the disability make the scene, I'm sorry for you. Even though, it's really not much laughable moments through the movie. I prefer rewatch hangover again rather this.

I loved this movie. I was so lucky to get to see this at Tallgrass Film Festival in Wichita, Kansas. This movie is wonderful. Funny, sweet, sad, endearing and a little bit crazy. Three disabled sorta friends going to a brothel to lose their virginity with none other than the incredible Gabourey Sidibe hired to be their driver. I cannot recommend enough.

Happened upon this film by chance. Thoroughly enjoyed the touching moments as well as the humor.

A buddy movie about 3 differently-abled young men who go on a road trip. It's hysterically funny, moving with great character development, and the actors are pitch perfect.
  • I was surprised by the large number of rave reviews on site, so I'm probably going to be such a fly in the ointment.

The movie begins with a bunch of jokes being thrown at you from the waist down. I'm thinking, oh, great, finally an uncut comedy. This is rather the merit of Grant Rosenmeyer, who drags his image of a vulgar prankster-rude the whole film. Other actors get lost in his background. They seem to take the plot away from the frenzy towards the melodrama.

It's not that I really want to laugh endlessly at the characters, it's just that at a certain point the plot becomes so predictable and stereotypical that I just don't want to watch the film 30 minutes before the end.

The genres seem to include comedy. I prefer to shed a tear in more masterful paintings. The actor who, according to the script, "accounts for" the most dramatic events, in my opinion, does not understand how to play at all.

In 2014, "On Wheels" was released with a similar theme, although there are older characters there, but it has a much stronger impact as a drama.

This Movie made me laugh more than any movie I have seen in the last few years. A virtually unknown cast that nailed it. The acting was superb and every actor cast perfectly. The story was happy and sad and funny and real. It showed the struggles that people with disabilities go through in a real life way. If the budget was a bit higher this had the potential to be a blockbuster.

  • It makes you laugh, think and its just a wonderful movie.
  • Adults with a keen sense of humor will enjoy this film. Sure there a few cringe moments but overall heart warming film.
  • What a truly wonderful movie from beginning to end. Want details read someone else's review. Don't forget to say this wasn't useful.

    Actually, I came twice.

After discovering a life-altering, potentially deadly symptom last night, I needed a comedy. I went to Amazon and surprisingly, I discovered one fairly quicky I had never heard of: "Come as You Are." What intrigued me was twofold: two of the guys on the promo poster looked cute, but also it was a road/field-trip film about disabled people, which I felt I soon will be. Additionally: how original.

So, I watched it last night, laughed a bit, cried some. Something made me want to watch it again, and I tried, but it was too late in the evening. So, today, the next day, I rewatched it. Something I rarely ever do.

This second viewing solidified my initial feeling of: 5/5 stars. I cried more. I laughed harder. I marveled more. This movie was just as perfect as it comes.

We do meet two incredibly gorgeous men in wheel chairs who are as horny as they come, but they need a third wheel to help satisfy their needs. Luckily, a Precious woman can help and most falls in line.

Upon the second viewing, I laughed harder, cried more and appreciated how REAL this all felt. Yes, I'm aware this is based on a true story. Many movies are, but none felt THIS real.

I 1000% approve of this movie and recommend you seeing it. It has to be the most realistic and original road/field trip movie I've ever seen.

    ***

Final thoughts: Something that shocked me a ton: THAT was Janeane Garofalo (as one of the moms)???? The first time seeing this, I had no clue. Took me two times to see it.
  • This is done really well. Sit back and enjoy this movie!

Director: Richard Wong and Writer: Erik Linthorst have created a truly 'feel good move' in which 3 physically challenged people make a trip to Canada for a night of fun with the help of a hired driver. You really want to see them accomplish their goal and experience life that has been denied them.

In my opinion Gabourey Sidibe steals the spotlight with her characters hard as nails yet most tender attitude !

    Enjoy!
