Some of the most entertaining television series in the animated field have finally made – and are about to make – their way to the screens in 2025, quenching fans’ curiosity and never-ending anticipation surrounding the same. This includes the likes of Invincible, which is currently winning fans over with its third season, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

However, while both of these shows are as perfect as can be in their respective places, being parts of different universes each, there’s quite a bit of debate swirling online about which series is better and which one isn’t. But now is not the time to be engulfed in such debates, for, truth be told, these two respective masterpieces aren’t actually comparable, despite online fan debate.

Invincible is back with its third season and the superhero drama series is off to a strong start with positive reviews for the early episodes. Despite this, the animated series based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book of the same name is severely lacking in one department. On social media, fans of the series noticed a dramatic change in the show’s quality.

Following season 3’s debut, fans reacted to one moment that underlined the declining quality of its animation. Given just how lazy the animation quality of season 3 feels, it can be argued that the brief mid-season hiatus of season 2 is hardly that controversial. Here is the exact moment Invincible fans realized they judged the mid-season break too harshly.

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains Major spoiler for Invincible.
One of the most dreaded characters in the Invincible canon, as far as fans are concerned, is the Viltrumite Anissa. While the horrible acts that she committed are something that fans have abhorred, there is also the fact that the character was seemingly forgiven by her victim, Mark Grayson.
Invincible || Credit: Prime Video
Anissa’s actions in the comics seemingly went unpunished, as any time there was some sort of comeuppance headed her way, Mark would shut it down, not wanting to engage with the issue.
Till the very end, while Anissa was done in by the narrative, there seemed to be some forgiveness from Mark which might not sit well with the mainstream audience, especially if the creators of the show choose to use one defense to justify her crimes.

The third season of Invincible is off and running on Prime Video, and the reviews have been glowing. This animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's superhero comic book is hard-hitting, funny, brutal and more complex than you might think at first glance. There are a ton of characters to follow, each with their own struggles and backstories. The show is only getting more narratively ambitious as it goes, serving up meaty character drama in between bone-crunching fights.
Season 3 will run through next month, but you might already be jonzing for more shows like Invincible. If so, you're in luck, because there are a lot of options. Here are some other series — both animated and live-action, some about superheroes and some not — that deliver some of what Invincible delivers:
The Boys season 4 on Prime Video | Invincible 1. The Boys (Prime Video)
Prime Video is the premiere streaming service for ultra-violent, original superhero shows.

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Invincible Season 3.
Invincible Season 3 has lived up to the claims made by Robert Kirkman, who believed that every episode of Season 3 was at the same level of quality as the finale of the previous seasons. This is evidenced by the fact that the show’s second highest-rated episode is the third episode of Season 3, which puts it right behind the Season 1 finale of the show.

Invincible‘s third season has come with a lot of updates, from the glaring lack of a mid-season break, and a part of the story that is perhaps the most instrumental in Mark’s narrative going forward. From the debut of the new suit to Oliver entering the superhero scene, this season of Invincible will no doubt eclipse the previous seasons in quality, as attested to by Robert Kirkman.

If you’ve been following Invincible, you already know that Kid Omni-Man, also known as Oliver Grayson, is a very intriguing character. As Mark Grayson’s half-brother, Oliver has a mix of Viltrumite and Thraxan DNA, which makes him a formidable fighter. He learns fast, improves rapidly, and has a strong sense of justice, though his approach can be a little too intense.

Launching a show like Invincible is a flex — ultra-violent action, wild twists, and a hero who actually gets wrecked. But behind the scenes, Robert Kirkman had one nagging fear that could’ve turned his masterpiece into a one-season flop.

Season 1 was a hit, but what if the hype didn’t last? What if people just… stopped caring? Well, seasons 2 and 3 came out swinging, proving Invincible is here to stay.
Robert Kirkman feared Invincible would be the “Omni-Man show” — Season 3 proves it’s so much more A still from Invincible Season 3 | Credits: Amazon MGM Studios
Robert Kirkman had one big worry after Invincible Season 1: Would people think this was just the Omni-Man Show? That concern could’ve derailed everything.
But with Season 2 setting the stage and Season 3 going full throttle, Kirkman and his team proved this series is much bigger than Nolan Grayson’s brutal legacy.

Season 3 of Invincible started with Mark Grayson, a.k.a. Invincible himself, training to become a better and stronger hero, fighting someone tough, and learning that he can’t trust everyone. As the episodes continued, the evolution of the side characters did too. It was masterfully done, especially with everything that was going on.
Even with all of that, there was one surprise left. One of the most dangerous characters returned. Before we get into that, the stage has to be set with two villains being brutally murdered.

Oliver (now going by Kid Omni-Man) saw the mauler Twins were threatening the world, decided that they needed to be taken care of permanently, and followed through. The shock of Oliver (a kind who looks 9 years old tops) being covered in blood was something even the Guardians of the Globe weren’t prepared to see.

The third season of Invincible has officially kicked off on Prime Video, and the so far the reviews are extremely positive. We found out what Mark Grayson has been doing to prepare for a Viltrumite invasion, watched the Guardians of the Globe split up, and got a gruesome death at the end of Episode 3, when Mark's little brother Oliver — the son of his father Omni-Man and Andressa, a bug woman from the planet Thraxa — brutally killed the Mauler Twins, villains who have been terrorizing our characters since the first-ever episode of the show. The world is better off without the Mauler Twins in it, but Oliver killed them with an alarming lack of remorse; whether we can chock that up to his youth or whether he's a budding sociopath remains to be seen.
We didn't get to catch up with Omni-Man himself, which is disappointing considering that he's the breakout...

The following contains spoilers for "Invincible" Season 3, Episode 1 (as well as potential spoilers for future episodes).
Time-travel, characters returning from the dead, and reanimated robot corpses? It's just business as usual so far in the third season of "Invincible," the fantastic adaptation of Robert Kirkman's epic superhero comic book series centering on Mark Grayson, aka Invincible (Steven Yeun), and his family. But while the "Invincible" voice cast was already stacked with impressive talent, this latest chapter steps things up a notch, adding a slew of new actors to the mix -- the kind that makes you snap and point at the screen like Leonardo DiCaprio when you realize who you're listening to.
In addition to featuring a vocal appearance by "Cobra Kai" star Xolo Maridueña (who drops in as both Dropkick and Fightmaster this week), the "Invincible" Season 3 premiere sees Mark going up against the (literal) one-man army of scorned ex-superheroes that is Multi-Paul.

Season 2, however, saw him turn over a new leaf, even missing his wife and son.

Love Hurts is the latest production from David Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North Productions. The studio has been responsible for some of the best action movies of the last decade, namely the John Wick franchise. And in those movies that aren’t quite to that level, you can always count on a handful of signature fight or stunt sequences (Atomic Blonde and its stairwell fight come to mind).

The season 3 premiere of Invincible is here and it's fantastic. The three episodes feature a lot of action, character development, and some moments that this writer didn’t see coming. It's another example of how brilliant the creative team is; they change just enough to make you understand things you may not have thought about.
For example, in the third episode, viewers see the other side of villainy. In this case, The story of Magmaniac and Tether Tyrant was heartbreaking. Sure, the things some of the criminals do are deplorable, but they still have feelings and lives.
Since this is a three-part premiere, rather than one long review, the episodes will be broken down into sections. It’ll be easier to follow along and explain what made the premiere amazing.
"You're Not Laughing Now"
The challenge with upgrading Mark’s strength and speed is that he’d truly become what his codename is: Invincible.

If there's anything more absurd than the level of violence in "Invincible," it's the vocal talent behind the characters on the receiving end of it. The brilliantly bloody adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series features Oscar winners like Mahershala Ali and J.K. Simmons, alongside Emmy-winning actors like Sterling K. Brown and Sandra Oh. Now in its third season, Mark Grayson's (Steven Yeun) world is further enriched by two new additions for the price of one: Xolo Maridueña, voicing the twin brothers Dropkick and Fightmaster.
After playing one of "Cobra Kai's" standout characters in "The Karate Kid" spin-off, which earned him his own superhero role as DC's Blue Beetle, Maridueña pulls double duty in "Invincible" season 3 as a pair of twins from the future. The following contains spoilers for "Invincible" Season 3, Episodes 2 and 3.
Following the gob-smacking events of "Invincible" Season 2, one of the best animated shows currently streaming is back for a third chapter in its signature blood-splattering fashion. After discovering that Cecil (Walton Goggins) has an army of ReAnimen at his disposal, Mark (Steven Yeun) quickly severs ties with his employer, though not before shredding Cecil's mindless drones like tissue paper first. Fueled by his anger and a desire to confront the Global Defense Agency director, Mark's actions serve as a violent, visceral, and explosive display of his power. His behavior is also unsettling for all who bear witness, echoing one of the most infamous and disturbing moments in the history of the "Invincible" universe.

After a long wait between the first and second seasons, “Invincible” Season 3 is already back and picking up after the heart-stopping finale last year.
A lot went down in Season 2 that might be worth brushing up on before new episodes of the Prime Video animated series resumes. Mark (Steven Yeun) managed to reunite with his dad Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) on a far-flung planet and learned he had a new half-brother. Viltrumites started showing up on Earth ready to finally add the planet to its growing empire and Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) managed a major glow up.
On top of all that, Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) tried to exact his revenge on Mark and ended up getting killed by the hero instead. Mark taking a life is bound to have a lasting effect going into Season 3.
Here is everything you need to brush up on before new episodes of “Invincible” start dropping.

Mark Grayson is back to save the world in Invincible season 3. Prime Video has dropped the first three episodes all at once, and they certainly set the tone for the rest of the season.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Invincible season 3, episodes 1, 2, and 3.
Let me start by saying that this show has not lost its edge. I worried when there was such a long break between the first two seasons and then the second season was split in two. It just goes to show that a high-quality series can survive a break, and Invincible is one of those high-quality series.
It’s time to train the baby in Invincible season 3
During the second season, Debbie took in Mark’s baby half-brother Oliver. I have to give props to Debbie for doing this. Not only is she raising the child her husband fathered with another woman, but she is raising an alien.

The second season of Invincible ended things with Mark killing Angstrom, or at least one of the versions of Angstrom, after he broke Debbie’s hand, harmed Oliver, and sent Mark through an endless list of parallel realities. Mark was rescued by an alternate version of the Guardians of the Globe and sent back to his reality, but before parting ways, the alt-Atom Eve advised Mark to give the Eve from his world some form of closure, romantically speaking, so as to save her from a life of misery. After returning home and telling Debbie that he was going to fully focus on being a superhero, Mark did meet up with Eve with the intention of speaking from his heart. However, he refrained from doing so because he was too shaken to converse coherently. In addition to that, it was revealed that Dupli-Kate was alive and planning to live with Immortal.

This article contains spoilers for "Invincible."
"Invincible" has returned for its third season on Prime Video, releasing concurrently with the debut season of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" on Disney+. With this new rival, does "Invincible" retain its title as "probably the best superhero series in the universe"? I'd say it does, and it comes down to how "Invincible" writes its lead character Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun).
It makes sense to compare these shows, because "Invincible," both the series and the original comic by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, is basically Spider-Man plus "Dragon Ball." (Viltrumites are more-or-less Saiyans. Omni-Man's look evokes Superman but his character arc is closer to Vegeta.)
Though Peter Parker doesn't have an alien warrior for a dad, he and Mark Grayson are quite similar people. Like Peter, Mark is a young man who gets superpowers but realizes being a superhero isn't as fun as...

Invincible Season 3 arrives with a different tone, revealing the expanding complexity of its world and characters. The opening episode reintroduces us to Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), now a more experienced hero, wrestling with the physical challenges of his powers and the psychological weight of his past actions.
Mark’s training under Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) shows a more structured method, yet the core of his challenge remains ethical: Can someone truly use great power while maintaining a pure sense of justice? This examination of power relationships speaks to a global dialogue about responsibility and the ethics of authority, whether in global politics or through fictional superheroes.
Alongside Mark’s growth, his half-brother Oliver (Christian Convery) develops quickly, introducing additional moral depth to the season. With his rapid maturation and desire to follow Mark’s example, Oliver represents an emerging group of superheroes—one shaped by understanding past actions and learning from their results.

When a popular book is adapted for the screen, how faithful to the source material is the adaptation obliged to be? Different producers give very different answers. Modern TV shows like Invincible and The Last of Us adapt their source material very faithfully, although they add and finesse things along the way. But then you look at a series like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is based on the appendices to J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books. Some of what's written there makes its way in, but most of the show is completely made up.
Then there's a series like House of the Dragon, which is based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. While the first season of the show stayed mostly grounded in the text (with some notable exceptions), the second season started to stray very far away from that story.

Invincible has the chance to do something few comic book projects have and become better than the source material. Yes, the show has its flaws. One of the biggest was splitting the season into two parts. Invincible creator Robert Kirkman said it was a necessity for the production of the show. Thankfully, that won’t be the case this time around. Things are back to normal with a three-episode premiere and then a weekly release.
This season will start with the darkest times for Mark Grayson (Invincible) and it starts with him wearing the blue and black costume. He’ll be betrayed by people he trusted, have his name dragged through the mud, and be hurt like he never has before. Considering the beatdown he got from his father, Omni-Man, that says a lot. Over the last few years, the state of comic book films and shows has grown increasingly uncertain with the phrase “superhero fatigue” getting thrown around following the surprise underperformance of major Marvel films. But Robert Kirkman, co-creator, co-showrunner and executive producer of “Invincible” — the violent animated show ready to unveil Season 3 — remains confident in the genre.
“I don’t think superhero fatigue is a real thing, but I do think that the genre of superhero storytelling has become so ubiquitous that it’s gotten to a point where it’s not fresh and it’s not new,” Kirkman told Variety Monday night at the Los Angeles premiere of “Invincible” Season 3. “You can’t just be a superhero show and not have anything special about you anymore because I think the novelty has worn off. But that’s really exciting to me, because now it means that everyone is so familiar...

A new month has dawned, which means it's time to take stock of all the new TV shows and movies coming down the pike. We've been fretting about the future of fantasy and science fiction TV a bit of late, but not to worry: there are still some exciting genre series to check out in February.
While the year overall is pretty stacked with fantasy and sci-fi stuff, February is a bit of a light month. We'll see the return of a gritty animated superhero drama, a new installment in Netflix's ongoing fantasy franchise The Witcher and...the Bible, but Game of Thrones-ified? Yeah, it's gonna be a strange one.
Here are all the genre shows and movies we've got on the docket in February 2025:

Invincible is back with its much anticipated Season 3, and from what I have seen, it’s even better than before. The adult animated superhero series has always been brilliant and bombastic in its execution, but this season’s first six episodes left me more in love with these characters than ever.
Created by Robert Kirkman, the Prime Video superhero series was always good at giving us memorable villains that came in and out of the main storyline seamlessly without taking away from the larger series of events. Season 3 of Invincible also sees many past villains from Mark Grayson’s past returning to fight him once again. Still, because of the intelligent writing and brilliant character work, I never felt tired of these characters.
Invincible Season 3 is also a lot more personal than its previous season,...

Prime Video's Invincible has proven itself one of the best superhero shows in the universe, and season 3 continues to show why it deserves such praise. The new season focuses heavily on Mark's personal life; from nurturing his fast-growing brother Oliver to balancing saving the planet with his personal relationships, he's a busy guy.
This is a spoiler-free review of the third season, so read without worry. We have only seen the first six episodes of the eight-episode season.
Invincible season 3 starts off pretty much where season 2 left off. After being warned by the Viltrumite Empire that they will return to monitor his progress preparing Earth for their takeover, Mark Grayson undergoes a difficult training regime. He's stronger and faster than ever.
The new season balances tons of storylines; more than ever before, and that's really saying something. If it weren't for the recaps at the start of each episode, I'd struggle to remember certain arcs.

It took several decades and a few dozen superhero films to open the genre to unique storytelling. Of course, Invincible and The Boys landed within a short timeline at Amazon, but both series have shown different approaches to the post-modern superhero critique. Based on the comic book series from Robert Kirkman Invincible continues to push the boundaries of what this devastation would feel like to those in the world. Throughout Invincible Season 3, questions of guilt and anger loom over Mark and his family. At the same time, there’s hope to carve one’s own path. It’s another excellent season, and one that reminds us that Invincible truly is one of the most emotionally mature shows on television.

Doctor Manhattan, one of the principal characters of Watchmen, was a little difficult for Zack Snyder to adapt in his adaptation of the graphic novel. While a lot of the effects that he used are practical, Manhattan was completely CGI, which posed a few challenges for Snyder, especially thanks to the nature of the character.

Doctor Manhattan is one of the more introverted characters in the DC canon, the kind that doesn’t really take part in any sort of overt acting sequences that merit dynamic camera movement and complex CGI. The character, as he is rendered, is mostly standing, narrating, and observing, which could be very difficult to do properly.

The anime industry has always been a space for the top professionals to gather and work together. Sometimes, it’s shocking how talent from very unexpected places comes together to make masterpieces.
