Writer, director, and producer James Gunn has come a long way since his days of working for Troma Studios, making the most offensive low-budget movies unfit for print. From his early days working under Lloyd Kaufman at Troma to becoming the co-chairman of DC Studios (with Peter Safran), Gunn has always had some pretty strong themes in his films. While some of his written work occasionally strays into much darker territory (looking at you, "The Belko Experiment"), the movies that he writes and directs tend to be darkly funny ensemble pieces with at least a bit of bloodshed and a surprising amount of sweetness. Gunn has worked for both Marvel Studios and DC, and despite there being some pretty big differences between the tone and content of these superhero stories, they still all contain some of Gunn's telltale trademarks.

Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14.
The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley has pulled back the curtain on one of the most shocking moments from Season 7 thus far. The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14 features the death of Malvado (Jimmy Gonzales). With his complicated connection to Bailey (Jenna Dewan), fans are wondering if his death means she'll have gotten away with the part she played in the death of her ex-husband Jason. Luckily, Collider’s Therese Lacson recently caught up with Hawley to speak about this moment, and he shared his take on the situation, mentioning how much of it falls back on Bailey’s trauma:
"I mean, what can I say about that? I think, at the end of the day, you know, what was the most interesting to me about that storyline really was Bailey's trauma and sort of what it sort of drove her to do.

Will Poulter made his debut in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as an initially ruthless and somewhat childlike take on Adam Warlock, who causes the team a lot of trouble before ultimately seeing the error of his ways and saving Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) towards the end of the movie.
In one of the post-credits scenes, we see that Warlock has officially become a member of the new Guardians along with Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Phyla and Blurp.
Concept artist Constantine Sekeris has now unveiled some of his early designs for Warlock, and it seems quite a few alternate looks were considered for the character.

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t exactly in tip-top shape. With the exception of Deadpool & Wolverine and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, the films of Phase Five have been seen as box-office disappointments. But there’s still time to right the ship, and Anthony Mackie hopes the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will do just that, telling IGN that the film will give us that good ol’ Marvel feeling. Fingers crossed.
“We’re supposed to go out this week and we’ll be out there doing it,” Mackie said. “Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great. I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.“

With Avengers: Doomsday now heading into production, new details have been revealed from the star-studded event film. Anthony Mackie, who took on the Captain America mantle in Brave New World earlier this year, is returning to the MCU for a leading role in Doomsday. He'll appear opposite Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside a host of other Avengers, in an experience that he promises will give fans the "old Marvel feeling" they have been yearning for.
During an interview with IGN promoting Twisted Metal Season 2, Mackie was asked about when he starts filming for Avengers: Doomsday. The MCU actor confirmed he'll be picking up the shield again later this month, teasing that everyone is excited about the band getting "back together." Additionally, he promised that audiences will be getting that "old Marvel feeling" that some have felt has been missing in recent films. It seems a good deal of...

Marvel Studios has taken us on quite the ride with the Multiverse Saga, albeit one that's been quite a bit bumpier than what we experienced during the Infinity Saga.
While the past six years or so of storytelling haven't been anywhere near as bad as some would lead you to believe, there's been an odd trend with Marvel movies and TV shows: post-credits scenes featuring splashy cameos and still-unresolved cliffhangers.
In this feature, we're taking a look back at 10 stingers that, as we head into Avengers: Doomsday next year, still haven't been addressed or resolved. Some stand a good chance of being expanded on next year, while others will likely remain in limbo for the foreseeable future.
You can find out which scenes we've singled out by clicking the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

The Accountant 2 director reveals why his plans for DC's Suicide Squadsequel were scrapped. Before James Gunn was hired to write and direct a sequel/soft reboot of 2016's Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. had approached O'Connor to course correct the franchise. O'Connor had just directed The Accountant for Warner Bros. and had made a name for himself directing gritty character-centric stories like Warrior, Pride and Glory, and Jane Got a Gun. O'Connor signed to direct The Suicide Squad 2 in September 2017, but later departed the project in October 2018, moving over to re-team with The Accountant star Ben Affleck on The Way Back.
Speaking with Collider, O'Connor reveals that he left work on the Suicide Squad sequel due to disagreements with the studio. The director says how the constant changing leadership at Warner Bros. and DC led to a disagreement, as a newly appointed head of the company seemingly wanted O'Connor to...

Chris Pratt recently spoke about the future of his Marvel character, Star-Lord. While promoting his new movie Mercy, Pratt took some time to talk about the MCU. He confirmed that Star-Lord will return, even though he wasn’t part of the big Avengers: Doomsday casting reveal.
In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Pratt said that fans can still expect to see more of Star-Lord. He explained, “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.“
This message should give fans hope. At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a title card appeared that said, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.” That was Marvel’s way of saying his story isn’t over yet.

Thunderbolts* brings the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Five to a dramatic climax as the titular group of former villains spring into action to try and save the world. Though the upcoming superhero blockbuster is on track for a respectable opening weekend at the box office, it's set to trail the most recent MCU offering, Captain America: Brave New World.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thunderbolts* is projected to earn between $63 million and $77 million domestically, with the consensus landing in the middle at $70 million. Even if Thunderbolts* reaches the highest point in that range, the Phase Five finale would still trail Brave New World, which grossed $88.5 million during its opening weekend. Brave New World has earned over $413 million worldwide since its Feb. 14 release, making it the sixth-lowest-grossing MCU film ever.

After eight full weekends in theaters, things are finally slowing down at the box office for Captain America: Brave New World. Anthony Mackie’s big-screen debut as the Star-Spangled Man has earned $199 million at the domestic box office and $213 million internationally for a total of $412 million worldwide. While this is enough to make it one of the three highest-grossing movies of the year globally and the #1 movie domestically, it doesn’t hold up so well against the rest of the MCU. Brave New World has earned less than half the box office total of 17 MCU movies, and it is currently the sixth-lowest-grossing MCU movie ever. Brave New World has passed only The Marvels, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, Black Widow, and Eternals.

From Doctor Strange 2 to No Way Home to Deadpool & Wolverine, post-Endgame, the MCU has largely strayed away from self-contained stories in favor of interconnected narratives for the most part. Moreover, with Avengers: Doomsday just a year away, many expected Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four: First Steps to lean toward this trend, especially given the factions’ ties to Doom in the comics.

If you’re one of the many folks who have watched Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, you no doubt wiped away a tear or ten when you watched Rocket Raccoon’s tragic backstory play out. But, is his origin the most tragic MCU Original of them all? Indeed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has dominated cinema for the past decade and a half and has given audiences some of the most memorable on-screen moments in history. Fans have developed close personal relationships with the heroes and characters to the point that they feel as if they’re real people existing in the real world. While that may not be true, it’s still a testament to how emotionally powerful the MCU has become that it allows audiences to empathize and care about completely fictional beings. In that light, part of being a hero (and part of what we love and...

You know that feeling when you’re watching Black Mirror, vibing with all the dark, techy chaos, and then suddenly, boom, you spot someone from the MCU? Like, “Hey wait, is that Falcon getting emotionally wrecked by a video game?” Yup. That’s the beauty of Black Mirror. It’s literally a goldmine for spotting Marvel stars in totally different (and usually way more depressing) roles.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with Peter Quill returning to Earth. He reunited with his grandfather, and the scene ended with a title card promising us that the Legendary Star-Lord would return.

You know, sometimes in life, you put your heart and soul into something, only to watch it slip through your fingers like sand. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, and that seems to be happening with the Guardians of the Galaxy in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film.
For years, the Guardians have been the heart and soul of some of the most thrilling, emotionally charged moments in the MCU. Nevertheless, with Kevin Feige’s recent announcement, it seems that their involvement in the future of the MCU will be either nonexistent or much more limited than we anticipated.

Halle Berry told Black Girl Nerds at CinemaCon that comic book movie fans should not expect to see her name called among the cast for Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday.” Several of Berry’s original “X-Men” co-stars were announced as part of the “Doomsday” cast earlier this month, much to the surprise of fans. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer are all coming back. So what about Berry?
“Fans want to see your name on the chair for the next next announcement of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,'” a reporter for Black Girl Nerds told Berry, alluding to the “Doomsday” livestream announcement where each cast member’s name was revealed on the back of a director’s chair. “We didn’t see Storm. We want to see your name”
“Keep waiting,” Berry answered. “It’s not going to be there. It’s not going to be there.

Chris Pratt is addressing his absence from last week’s Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement.
Marvel livestreamed the actors confirmed for the next Avengers installment featuring chairs with their names, and the Guardians of the Galaxy star and his crew were notably absent.
“I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off,” Pratt told Collider after being asked about his chair. “They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”
Marvel hinted that it would reveal more names to star in the film, but it is unclear if Pratt would be included in the next set of actors.
Actors confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday included X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).

"It Was There": Chris Pratt Reacts to His Missing Chair During the 'Avengers: Doomsday' Casting News

Chris Pratt has confirmed his future as Star-Lord after not being one of the names announced for the Avengers: Doomsday cast. Pratt’s Star-Lord has been a staple in the MCU after first debuting in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and he even appeared in the final two Avengers movies of the Infinity Saga, Infinity War and Endgame. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 served as a send-off for the core group of Guardians that Marvel fans had fallen in love with, but the closing title card of the movie confirmed that Star-Lord would return in the future. During a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub to talk about his upcoming sci-fi thriller, Mercy, Pratt confirmed that he and Marvel will make good on that promise:
“I can't say, for fans of mine, where they'll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the...

Marvel Studios constructed a huge set for The Fantastic Four: First Steps in London's Pinewood Studios, consisting of Times Square, the Baxter Building's Excelsior Launch Pad, and Yancy Street.
Now, it appears that at least part of the set is being saved for Avengers: Doomsday. Pedro Pascal, Vannesa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have all officially joined the movie's cast and it was recently claimed that Marvel's First Family will still be residing on their Earth before they team up with Earth-616's Mightiest Heroes.
It appears only Yancy Street is being saved, suggesting we'll get to see The Thing in his old stomping grounds before or during all the Multiversal madness bound to ensue next summer. Scooper @MyTimeToShineH has also confirmed this is being used for Doomsday.

Death of a Unicorn has a markedly unique premise when it comes to being a horror film. Starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as the lead father-daughter duo, the film also stars Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 alum Will Poulter.
Will Poulter has come out with some praise for his own film, very impressed by what it has to offer fans. Given the unique premise that has been revealed by the studio, there is at least some interest in how the film might be. However, it remains to be seen how the film is received, given that it has just been two days since it was released.

Nathan Fillion recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show and the actor briefly touched on his upcoming role as Guy Gardner in James Gunn's Superman.
"This is James Gunn. He's amazing, he's huge, he's world famous. Everybody knows him. I did one of his very first movies, and if James Gunn is nothing else, he's loyal to a fault. He puts me into everything that he does."
"I'm going to be Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern, not the one you might be [familiar with] but a Green Lantern, the one nobody likes. "
Hudson then joked about Gardner's blonde bowl-cut, which prompted Fillion to keep the joke going, stating, "Correction, it's strawberry-blonde...I think I'm going to bring that look back. It's comic book accurate; Guy Gardner had a bowl-cut. And there were some discussions early on about different hairdos we could try and I was team bowl-cut."
The conversation then turned...

Following Marvel Studios' big Avengers: Doomsday casting announcement, a handful of actors mentioned have commented on either returning to the MCU or, in a few instances, making their franchise debut.
Joseph Quinn will first "Flame On" as the Human Torch in The Fantastic Four: First Steps this summer. Talking to IGN about A24's Warfare, he broke his silence on plans for Marvel's First Family to assemble alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the X-Men.
"It was relief, I suppose. It was a nice thing," the actor said of the news. "I think I’m in very good company. I would love to see Will there, too, just because we have a laugh but the road is long in this Marvel land so God willing because it would be fun."

With test screenings fully underway for James Gunn's upcoming Superman, it was only a matter of time before spoilers started to surface and it looks like a major cameo has found its way online.
Spoilers Ahead
While the rumor mill had floated the names of Tom Cruise and Chris Pratt possibly being in the mix for Jor-El in recent weeks, the noted leaker ViewerAnon has learned the actor's true identity, and, while it's unsurprisingly one of Gunn's former Guardians of the Galaxy stars, it's an actor we'd only heard, not seen before.
As per his sources, 12x Academy Award-nominee Bradley Cooper (The Hangover; Guardians of the Galaxy; Avengers: Endgame) has been enlisted to play Jor-El, the father of Superman.
He'll only appear in the first few minutes of the movie, so while it's not really a major plot spoiler, it does seemingly reveal that we'll once again be...

As Marvel Studios continues its march toward Avengers: Doomsday — you know, the movie about the empty chairs — the spotlight has shifted to its next major release, Thunderbolts*, and fans just got a key piece of info: the run time. According to the film’s landing page on Regal’s official website, Thunderbolts* clocks in at 2 hours and 6 minutes (126 minutes). That makes it longer than both Captain America: Brave New World (118 minutes) and The Marvels (105 minutes), but slightly shorter than Deadpool & Wolverine (128 minutes) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (150 minutes). It also won’t beat the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set for a 140-minute theatrical run this summer.
Interestingly, the theater chain may have jumped the gun. While the run time was quietly posted online—alongside active showtimes and ticket availability—Marvel Studios has yet to make an official announcement about Thunderbolts* tickets being on sale.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a collection of characters from all over the cosmos. Heck, with the Multiverse Saga still ongoing, we can't even refine it to just one cosmos, as the franchise has welcomed in characters from all across the Marvel Multiverse, going as far as to reintroduce characters we haven't seen since Fox's X-Men movies and the early days of Sony's Spider-Man movies. It's been a real joy for longtime fans, that's for sure.
In the world of comic book adaptations, characters can come and go as they please; even departures and death isn't inevitable anymore. With that in mind, fans are hoping that a number of gone-but-not-forgotten characters might resurface in the upcoming two-part conclusion to the Multiverse Saga of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel Studios' next big ensemble film, Thunderbolts*, is just over a month away, and anticipation is only continuing to build. Besides James Gunn's trilogy-capper Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there hasn't been much in the way of big team-ups or event films that have worked for the studio since Avengers: Endgame. Chloé Zhao's Eternals didn't find the success it was looking for, and Avengers: Doomsday isn't due until May 2026. Thankfully, Thunderbolts* is nearly here, and we now have a reveal of the runtime that can give fans an idea of what to expect in the unconventional team-up movie.
The official Regal Theaters' movie website has listed the runtime of Thunderbolts* as being 2 hours and 6 minutes long. Clocking in at 126 minutes, the film is only slightly longer than the 118-minute runtime of Captain America: Brave New World, the other newest Marvel Studios film released in February. The runtime...

The official runtime for Thunderbolts* has been revealed ahead of its theatrical release in May. The upcoming crossover movie brings together anti-heroes from past Marvel Cinematic Universe projects like Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
According to movie theater chain Regal, Thunderbolts* will have a runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes. This comes after a report from earlier this week stated that the MCU movie currently had "an approximate runtime of two hours." At 126 minutes, Thunderbolts* lands smack-dab in the middle of the Phase 5 runtime list, with Deadpool & Wolverine (128 mins) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (149 mins) ahead of it and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (125 mins) and The Marvels (105 mins) below it. Thunderbolts* is also the same length as 2008's Iron Man and 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, both of which also clocked in at 2 hours and 6 minutes.

Known primarily for his work in the sci-fi genre, filmmaker Alex Garland might not be the filmmaker you’d think of for a gritty, grounded war film. However, that is exactly what resulted from his collaboration with co-writer and co-director Ray Mendoza. Offering a very different type of experience than your typical war film, Warfare is the type of ambitious experiment that bites off much more than it can chew.
Warfare Review
Warfare follows a platoon of Navy SEALs on a mission in Iraq as they are trapped in a house by a squadron of enemy combatants and must make a plan on the spot to escape and protect their own. Inspired by Mendoza and his peers’ memories of their real-life experiences, the movie has a very simple narrative but is very engaging nevertheless.

Are you still thinking about Avengers: Doomsday's casting announcements? Who could blame you? I know I'm still thinking about it. Marvel Studios had the world in the palm of its hand as it revealed the stars who would assemble in the next milestone Avengers movie in a five-hour livestream that has now received over 275 million views across platforms. To say it has gotten the people talking would be an understatement.

But there were also some actors who didn't receive a mention in the casting announcement stream, with fans wondering if they'll be in it at all.

Marvel is getting exciting again. After a few years with some rough movies following the hit film Avengers: Endgame, Marvel announced the cast for Avengers: Doomsday with a livestream. The cast is extremely large, and the stream lasted more than five hours with the sheer number of people returning for the film. There were certainly some exciting announcements, like Chris Hemsworth playing Thor and Paul Rudd playing Ant-Man, or the reveal that most of the 2000s X-Men actors would be reprising their roles.
Length aside, the livestream was also disappointing for quite a few reasons. Numerous actors who were rumored to appear in Avengers: Doomsday weren't named in the livestream, and the livestream spoiled a few details about Thunderbolts*. I tried to be as excited as I could about the announcements, but I couldn't help feeling equally worried that Avengers: Doomsday might be too much of a mess to save the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although MCU’s producer-driven template has proven to be a success in the past, in recent years, things have been pretty mixed, especially in terms of its writing and CGI. As for the latter, it mostly has to do with the unreasonable deadlines that the artists often have to deal with, and the barrage of reshoots certainly doesn’t alleviate their case.

Marvel spent five and a half slow hours revealing the massive cast for “Avengers: Doomsday” and still did not have the time to include some fan-favorite characters.
It had been teased that Marvel was going to have a reveal that would sweep the Internet on Wednesday morning. That happened in the form of a slow panning of cast chairs revealing the names of the stars for the next big Avengers film. Among the biggest names were Marvel mainstays Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, and more. They also revealed a number of iconic members from the Fox-era X-Men movies would star including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn.
Obviously, not every character was going to appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” – many who appeared in “Avengers: Infinity War” sat out most of “Avengers: Endgame” or vice versa – but below are ten characters that really made sense to appear in the upcoming team-up film.

In a new interview, one actor in The Fantastic Four: First Steps praises the film's storytelling, directly comparing it to two of the McU's best entries.
The McU's spiraling quality and box office revenue have been a tad overblown, with successes like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Deadpool & Wolverine still occurring in recent years. However, fans can hardly ignore its string of sequel flops like The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and now Captain America: Brave New World given its current trajectory.
Sadly, these duds have turned off a number of fans from keeping up with every MCU release. But some have found a new hope in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a feeling shared by Paul Walter Hauser, one of a handful of actors in the film whose role is still a mystery.

Adam Warlock is a pretty big deal in the world of Marvel Comics, but he appears unlikely to be quite the same formidable character in the MCU. Having made his debut in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as a somewhat childish and adolescent version of the powerful cosmic being, it looks like his future in the franchise is not exactly guaranteed, as actor Will Poulter recently expressed his desire to reprise the role again but suggested that he has not yet been contacted about doing so.
Adam Warlock was originally teased in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 back in 2017, but it would be six years before he would finally make his first appearance in the MCU. Poulter played a very different take on the character than many fans of the character’s comic book appearances were expecting. Having been pulled out of...

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 marks his last directorial movie for Marvel, after this, he exited the franchise and stepped into the DC world. However, the film earned enough acclamation to remember his legacy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock was also seen in this movie. It might have seemed like a final appearance of many characters but when Poulter was asked about his return he responded with a lot of hope.
The upcoming Marvel movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are on the lineup. Explaining whether Poulter’s character Adam Warlock would ever return in this franchise, the actor talked about it during his promotion of his upcoming film Death of a Unicorn featuring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. Thunderbolts* promises to end Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a bang as the titular antihero group seeks redemption for past missteps. A new report claims the upcoming superhero blockbuster won't keep fans in cinemas for too long to find out how this latest chapter in the Multiverse Saga ends.
According to Feature First, Thunderbolts* "currently has an approximate runtime of two hours." If the report is accurate, it would continue Marvel's recent trend of keeping its MCU entries just above or below the two-hour mark. Since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which ran for 2 hours and 29 minutes, the last three MCU films, The Marvels (1 hour and 45 minutes), Deadpool & Wolverine (2 hours and 8 minutes) and Captain America: Brave New World (1 hour and 58 minutes), have run for around two hours. Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.
Daredevil: Born Again might have raised a question with its latest episode that not only proves what a brilliant piece of Marvel content it is, but also gives one of Marvel’s worst offerings a shot at redemption. When Matthew Murdock goes to visit his client in the episode, the character floats around the idea of a Skrull having committed the crime rather than he himself. while Matt shoots it down, it begs a question that could allow the MCU to revisit Secret Invasion in a more nuanced and mature manner, akin to the pacing and vibes of Daredevil: Born Again.
