Writer, director, and producer James Gunn has come a long way since his days of working for Troma Studios, making the most offensive low-budget movies unfit for print. From his early days working under Lloyd Kaufman at Troma to becoming the co-chairman of DC Studios (with Peter Safran), Gunn has always had some pretty strong themes in his films. While some of his written work occasionally strays into much darker territory (looking at you, "The Belko Experiment"), the movies that he writes and directs tend to be darkly funny ensemble pieces with at least a bit of bloodshed and a surprising amount of sweetness. Gunn has worked for both Marvel Studios and DC, and despite there being some pretty big differences between the tone and content of these superhero stories, they still all contain some of Gunn's telltale trademarks.

The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley has pulled back the curtain on one of the most shocking moments from Season 7 thus far. The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14 features the death of Malvado (Jimmy Gonzales). With his complicated connection to Bailey (Jenna Dewan), fans are wondering if his death means she'll have gotten away with the part she played in the death of her ex-husband Jason. Luckily, Collider’s Therese Lacson recently caught up with Hawley to speak about this moment, and he shared his take on the situation, mentioning how much of it falls back on Bailey’s trauma:

"I mean, what can I say about that? I think, at the end of the day, you know, what was the most interesting to me about that storyline really was Bailey's trauma and sort of what it sort of drove her to do.

Will Poulter made his debut in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as an initially ruthless and somewhat childlike take on Adam Warlock, who causes the team a lot of trouble before ultimately seeing the error of his ways and saving Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) towards the end of the movie.

In one of the post-credits scenes, we see that Warlock has officially become a member of the new Guardians along with Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Phyla and Blurp.

Concept artist Constantine Sekeris has now unveiled some of his early designs for Warlock, and it seems quite a few alternate looks were considered for the character.

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t exactly in tip-top shape. With the exception of Deadpool & Wolverine and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, the films of Phase Five have been seen as box-office disappointments. But there’s still time to right the ship, and Anthony Mackie hopes the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will do just that, telling IGN that the film will give us that good ol’ Marvel feeling. Fingers crossed.

“We’re supposed to go out this week and we’ll be out there doing it,” Mackie said. “Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great. I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.“

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will see the titular superhero group make its Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Ahead of its highly anticipated premiere, fans have been treated to a first look at Marvel's First Family in their spacesuits.

Chris Pratt recently spoke about the future of his Marvel character, Star-Lord. While promoting his new movie Mercy, Pratt took some time to talk about the MCU. He confirmed that Star-Lord will return, even though he wasn’t part of the big Avengers: Doomsday casting reveal.

In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Pratt said that fans can still expect to see more of Star-Lord. He explained, “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.“

This message should give fans hope. At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a title card appeared that said, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.” That was Marvel’s way of saying his story isn’t over yet.

Thunderbolts* brings the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Five to a dramatic climax as the titular group of former villains spring into action to try and save the world. Though the upcoming superhero blockbuster is on track for a respectable opening weekend at the box office, it's set to trail the most recent MCU offering, Captain America: Brave New World.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thunderbolts* is projected to earn between $63 million and $77 million domestically, with the consensus landing in the middle at $70 million. Even if Thunderbolts* reaches the highest point in that range, the Phase Five finale would still trail Brave New World, which grossed $88.5 million during its opening weekend. Brave New World has earned over $413 million worldwide since its Feb. 14 release, making it the sixth-lowest-grossing MCU film ever.

After eight full weekends in theaters, things are finally slowing down at the box office for Captain America: Brave New World. Anthony Mackie’s big-screen debut as the Star-Spangled Man has earned $199 million at the domestic box office and $213 million internationally for a total of $412 million worldwide. Will Poulter got himself into a bit of an embarrassing situation while filming the highly acclaimed MCU movie Guardians of the GalaxyVol 3. He accidentally punched Dave Bautista, a powerful and intimidating former wrestler, in the face while filming a scene.

Poulter recalled the incident during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show. When asked if there were moments when he'd "accidentally taken someone out," the actor recounted a fight with Bautista during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Poulter played the golden Adam Warlock, while Bautista played the green bruiser Drax. "Dave is the loveliest man in the world, and he used to be a professional wrestler before he turned to acting. Now, a brilliant actor," Poulter said.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is answering a question fans have had since the end of 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. That is, when will Star-Lord be seen again?

The question gained momentum after Marvel’s huge Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement in which Pratt’s chair was conspicuously missing. “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of (Guardians of the Galaxy) Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return,” Pratt, who is currently starring in Netflix’s The Electric State, told Collider.

He also reacted to the recent Avengers: Doomsday announcement, which saw 27 huge names attached to the upcoming project. When asked where his chair was during the live-streamed announcement, Pratt joked, “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off…...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with Peter Quill returning to Earth. He reunited with his grandfather, and the scene ended with a title card promising us that the Legendary Star-Lord would return. 

Unfortunately, it doesn't currently appear as if that will be in Avengers: Doomsday. One insider has claimed that Chris Pratt won't be in the movie due to scheduling conflicts, though we've also heard that Marvel Studios is still working out those issues and finances.

Halle Berry told Black Girl Nerds at CinemaCon that comic book movie fans should not expect to see her name called among the cast for Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday.” Several of Berry’s original “X-Men” co-stars were announced as part of the “Doomsday” cast earlier this month, much to the surprise of fans. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer are all coming back. So what about Berry?

“Fans want to see your name on the chair for the next next announcement of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,'” a reporter for Black Girl Nerds told Berry, alluding to the “Doomsday” livestream announcement where each cast member’s name was revealed on the back of a director’s chair. “We didn’t see Storm. Marvel hinted that it would reveal more names to star in the film, but it is unclear if Pratt would be included in the next set of actors.

Marvel Studios constructed a huge set for The Fantastic Four: First Steps in London's Pinewood Studios, consisting of Times Square, the Baxter Building's Excelsior Launch Pad, and Yancy Street.

Now, it appears that at least part of the set is being saved for Avengers: Doomsday. Pedro Pascal, Vannesa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have all officially joined the movie's cast and it was recently claimed that Marvel's First Family will still be residing on their Earth before they team up with Earth-616's Mightiest Heroes.

Death of a Unicorn has a markedly unique premise when it comes to being a horror film. Starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as the lead father-daughter duo, the film also stars Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 alum Will Poulter.

Will Poulter has come out with some praise for his own film, very impressed by what it has to offer fans. Given the unique premise that has been revealed by the studio, there is at least some interest in how the film might be. As Marvel Studios continues its march toward Avengers: Doomsday — you know, the movie about the empty chairs — the spotlight has shifted to its next major release, Thunderbolts*, and fans just got a key piece of info: the run time. According to the film’s landing page on Regal’s official website, Thunderbolts* clocks in at 2 hours and 6 minutes (126 minutes). That makes it longer than both Captain America: Brave New World (118 minutes) and The Marvels (105 minutes), but slightly shorter than Deadpool & Wolverine (128 minutes) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (150 minutes). Marvel is getting exciting again. After a few years with some rough movies following the hit film Avengers: Endgame, Marvel announced the cast for Avengers: Doomsday with a livestream. The cast is extremely large, and the stream lasted more than five hours with the sheer number of people returning for the film. There were certainly some exciting announcements, like Chris Hemsworth playing Thor and Paul Rudd playing Ant-Man, or the reveal that most of the 2000s X-Men actors would be reprising their roles.

Length aside, the livestream was also disappointing for quite a few reasons. Numerous actors who were rumored to appear in Avengers: Doomsday weren't named in the livestream, and the livestream spoiled a few details about Thunderbolts*. I tried to be as excited as I could about the announcements, but I couldn't help feeling equally worried that Avengers: Doomsday might be too much of a mess to save the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although MCU’s producer-driven template has proven to be a success in the past, in recent years, things have been pretty mixed, especially in terms of its writing and CGI. As for the latter, it mostly has to do with the unreasonable deadlines that the artists often have to deal with, and the barrage of reshoots certainly doesn’t alleviate their case.

Marvel Studios dominated the internet yesterday by revealing the Avengers: Doomsday cast during a five and a half hour event, which played out across YouTube and social media. 

Millions tuned in to see who will star in the next Avengers movie, and there were plenty of thrilling surprises. 

However, just as noteworthy as who will appear is who won't. We are expecting another cast reveal at some point, but as of now, Avengers: Doomsday is missing a lot of big-name actors and characters.

Marvel Studios has invested heavily in its streaming shows since WandaVision launched in 2021. However, the characters who have solely made their presence felt on Disney+ are conspicuous by their absence in the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal.

Marvel spent five and a half slow hours revealing the massive cast for “Avengers: Doomsday” and still did not have the time to include some fan-favorite characters.

It had been teased that Marvel was going to have a reveal that would sweep the Internet on Wednesday morning. That happened in the form of a slow panning of cast chairs revealing the names of the stars for the next big Avengers film. Among the biggest names were Marvel mainstays Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, and more. They also revealed a number of iconic members from the Fox-era X-Men movies would star including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn.

Obviously, not every character was going to appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” – many who appeared in “Avengers: Infinity War” sat out most of “Avengers: Endgame” or vice versa – but below are ten characters that really made sense to appear in the upcoming team-up film.
