  • This is one of a legion of today's cheap-but-still-pretty-enough-to-watch movies we see today, thanks completely to the most affordable video and computer production technology in the history of cinema.

It COULD have been so many things, including a major hollywood film. All it needed was better writing, better direction, better pacing through editing, much better acting, more money to use more cameras to capture more coverage.

I say that because this has many half-buried nuggets of quality -- in the dialogue, in the setups, even in the plot ideas. But none of them pay off. Only one actor can act well -- the lead actor. But in the bigger world, he's nothing more than a pretty face in a sea of pretty faces with bodies of underwear models.
  • What was this but a pretentious attempt at embellishing a pretty tame, done to death plot.

Seems like an attempt by a just out of University student with shed loads of quotes and ideas taken from Vogue and other equally tawdry and pretentious publications spliced into a rape revenge standard plot....yaaaawnnnnnn - probably will appeal to the pea brains who watch the equally pea brained Towie and Made In Chelsea style over substance reality nonsense.
  • Imagine Eyes Wide Shut but the point of the club is a front to make money for college kids with aspirations to be billionaires. Ugh. It had a really promising start but halfway thru, when revealed, it just drones on as Crawford narrates the whole meaning of the story for the rest of the movie. I really tried but just couldn't make it all the way through. Great cast and great acting, but it was so boring. You really won't miss the 80+ minutes if you skip it.
  • The writer was clearly a fan of Kevin Smiths early work, but it doesn't quite fit in this film. the writing is overly verbose, narcissistic, and incredibly distracting in the same way an overacted play might be. the story takes the LOOOONNNNNGGGG way home, but definitely wouldn't consider it the scenic route. it addresses some over used heavy topics, to me feeling like pandering to the "me too" all the while propitiating a 'man saves woman' trope. this movie tries so hard to be artsy, and it's achieved it in the most cringy way possible. i will say the photography was beautiful, and the music fit well... any stars given were earned on those merits.
  • Dialog bounces between the vocabulary of the educated to the heavy expository that screams, "We're so smart we have to say it all again at a second grade reading level so all the idiots in the audience will understand." When the dialog switches to narrative from expository it is unnatural, boring, stiff, despite trying to make it flow like genuine conversations that have curiosity and care.

The acting is just as pretentious. The characters are generic stereotypes. No one character really breaks into the dynamic, making them stalely familiar caricatures of what we've seen in pop-television for decades. While the actors try to bring life to the cardboard standees they have been hired to play, they could have been replaced with household utensils or LEGO bricks and the film would have accomplished the same effect.

It doesn't take long for the film to devolve into clear expression of the writer's views of Hollywood culture and elitism in filmmaking with a kind of bait and switch plot device that ultimately fails to bring anything of substance or intrigue to the film.

I'm rather convinced the writer of this film heralds themselves as the next Tarantino or Cohen Bro with a Shakespearean twist, and unfortunately they are not.

The one interesting aspect of the film is the use of color pallets. In all the flashback narrative nonsense the narrator is shrouded in the same color lighting as he is in the present narrative of the film, while the other characters are not. It's a nice touch. So props for that.

Great acting . Superb cast . What a twist at the end !!!!! Oscar worthy!!
  • You have never seen Chace Crawford do such a fantastic job acting. In addition to him, the performances by Blue Kimble and a select few others make for one of the great ensemble cast films of recent years.
  • No pun intended - and I have to admit, I had no idea where this would go. At times it feels like the movie had no clue where it would end up. Not true of course, but you may get that feeling. Actually performance wise I can not fault anyone. And the visual style the movie offers ... I think even those who didn't like the movie would agree that it looks good.

That all being said, I have a feeling there could have been done more with the material/story here. It could have been tighter, it could have felt more on point. On the other hand, it did have that otherworldly feeling - something I am not able to put my finger on - and frankly I don't think can be really explained.

It has a message it delivers - one that is important. It does so with giving you doubts on certain things though. And vigilantism never is a real answer ... well not always, am I right?
  • This movie reminded me a lot of Neon Demon and Euphoria and Assassination Nation the way it was shot. And it does play toward/against that same millennial crowd. I thought they executed everything in a unique way. Also reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut.
  • This movie starts off, purposefully playing itself as a usual "night out on the town movie," but takes a surprising turn and goes down an unexpected road. Recommend!
  • Such an amazing movie and casting! If you are a fan of thriller movies,I recommended you to watch it!

I love how this movie started off as your average "two guys go out on the town" and became so much weirder, like a dark Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole. Nice cast and score. Check it out
  • The movie plot can be desacribe into the Birds Of Prey quote: "We must not make a scarecrow of the law, Setting it up to fear the birds of prey, And let it keep one shape till custom make it Their perch, and not their terror."

  • I watched this movie so many times and I still loved it.
  • Explores the sense and attitude of Millennials when it comes to wanting control and a selflessness to engage in social action as undertones in the plot of the movie.

Janet Montgomery as Marguerite of the Nighthawks is alluring, beautiful, seductive and intelligent as if ita her birthright to be a Nighthawk.
