During the scene when Shaw shows off his collection of cars to Hobbs, he pauses on a Mini Cooper, saying that it was used during a mission in Italy; a clear joke on The Italian Job (2003), one of Jason Statham's previous hit movies.

The idea of a "Fast & Furious" spin-off featuring Hobbs and Shaw first emerged during filming of "The Fate of the Furious," after producers and studios execs took note of the comedic chemistry between the two throughout their scenes together. Plans to actually develop the spin-off were informally green-lit towards the end of filming, and they were later revealed to be the reason behind the much-discussed animosity that emerged between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson in the final week of production - which resulted in Diesel reportedly canceling some of Johnson's scenes (which was within his purview as one of the movie's executive producers) and not showing up for filming at all on at least one day of production, leaving hundreds of cast and crew sitting idle. After news of the spin-off became public, co-stars Michelle Rodriguez (Letty) and Tyrese Gibson (Roman) publicly criticized it for damaging the F&F "family" as well as pushing back the release of the series' ninth installment by at least a year. As of February 2019, Johnson has stated he will "probably not" return for "Fast & Furious 9" but would consider it for the 10th in the series.

Dwayne Johnson said he tried hard to get Jason Momoa to play the role of Hobbs's brother, but scheduling issues prevented it from happening. However, Dwayne gave fans hope for a future collaboration, adding, "Next Hobbs movie for sure".

Brixton's suit has a Weyland Corporation symbol on the right collar bone. Idris Elba starred as an employee of Weyland Corporation in Prometheus.

WWE superstar Roman Reigns (Joe Anoa'i) plays Luke Hobbs' (Dwayne Johnson's) brother in the film, but in reality they are cousins. Both Roman and Dwayne announced this on their respective Instagram pages.

Deckard Shaw is about two years older than his sister, Hattie. In reality, Jason Statham is 21 years older than Vanessa Kirby.

Helen Mirren reprises her role from The Fate of the Furious (2017) as Shaw's mother. She originally landed the role after she had indicated her desire to be part of the franchise one day, and the producers were happy to accommodate her.

Idris Elba refused to say a scripted line for his character, calling himself "the black James Bond". He instead used the phrase "black Superman". Elba has been rumoured to be in consideration for the role of James Bond, and would be the first black actor to portray Bond.

During the movie, Joe Anoa'i performs two of his signature wrestling maneuvers, the Spear and the Samoan Drop.

Screenwriter Chris Morgan said that a line spoken by Deckard to Hattie before ETEON's assault in Samoa, "There's things I've done that I have to make amends for" was deliberately written in response to the viral Internet fan campaign called "Justice for Han". The campaign alludes to him killing Han at the end of Fast and Furious 6.

This movie takes place two years after the events of The Fate of the Furious (2017).

Dwayne Johnson was very supportive of exploring the idea of Hobbs's family, allowing for many Polynesians to be cast as his relatives. This was a definite nod to Vin Diesel's constant references to "family" in the previous Fast & Furious movies.

Although the scene takes place in London, the McLaren car chase sequence early in the movie was shot primarily in Glasgow and on the Universal Studios backlot in L.A.

The exterior of the curved ETEON headquarters building is actually the McLaren Technology Centre, where the McLaren Formula 1 team is based. The building is added to a CGI landscape.

Vanessa Kirby was trained for her fight sequences by the same stunt coordinators - Greg Rementer and Cale Schultz - who trained Charlize Theron for her action scenes in Atomic Blonde (2017).

The exterior action of the Russian Power Station was shot at Ferry Bridge Power Station, a decommissioned power plant in West Yorkshire, England. It was later demolished once the film reached UK cinemas.

During the London car chase, as Brixton's motorbike changes shape to slide under the oncoming truck, the iconic sound effect used during the transformations from the Transformers cartoons and films can clearly be heard.

In a scene with Hobbs's on screen daughter, she references the "raised eyebrow", part of The Rock's wrestling persona.

This is the first Fast & Furious chapter to be shot with anamorphic lenses unlike the previous eight films which were shot primarily in the Super 35 format on film and digital.

David Leitch has stated that the film would feel different from the "Fast and Furious" franchise. Although it was filled with action sequences, cars and elements that constructed "Fast and Furious", it would feel different from the series.

Dwayne Johnson stated that Keanu Reeves was in talks to play the director of terrorist organization ETEON, if things had worked out: "What we did at the end was we left the ominous voice faceless. So, for some time, it was going to be a bit of a John Wick, all disguised. But then we left it there with a few people in mind. Originally, Keanu was the goal. We were talking, and it just didn't feel right creatively. He and I talked, and I totally got it. And it wound up being the best thing, so now we leave that open for the future."

Deckard Shaw complains at the treatment of his mother in prison, saying "She's 71" ; the actress ( Helen Mirren ) had just turned 74 when the film was released, so would have been almost exactly 71 when the scene was shot.

At different points in the film, Dwayne Johnson (Hobbs) says he'll open up a can of whoop ass, and also refers to another character as an ass clown. Both of these statements were frequently uttered as catchphrases by Johnson's fellow wrestlers Steve Austin and Chris Jericho.

The car chase round London was mostly filmed in Glasgow city centre in late October 2018 and features the area around George Square and St Vincent Place, including scenes of them racing through the arches of the Glasgow City Chambers on the square. The roads were closed as the chase moves the wrong way down these one way streets.

This film was scheduled to be released on Jason Stathams 52nd birthday (7/26/2019). It has now been pushed back to 8/8/2019.

The film's trailer indicates that Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is a former MI6 agent. This is a significant alteration from his original depiction in the "Fast & Furious" franchise (in "Furious 7") as a villain who originally served in the British special forces before his abilities as an asset became a liability. Retconning him as an MI6 operative puts him on a footing more akin to a James Bond-style spy, as most field operatives come from a special forces background and his status as a MI6 operative would not have been made common knowledge.

Dwayne Johnson's French bulldog, Hobbs, makes an appearance in the beginning of the movie when he's lying on the bed while Hobbs is doing push-ups on the floor.

A Jurassic World short film called "Battle at Big Rock" was scheduled to be presented with this movie, but has been postponed to an unknown date.

Shane Black was considered to direct the film.

During the filming of the power station sequences in East Yorkshire, the film crew arranged for Dwayne Johnson to train at the local World Fitness Gym in Doncaster.

Vanessa Kirby's also played a character who fought with MI-6 in 2018 Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Director of Hobbs & Shaw (2019) David Leitch and musician Aloe Blacc guest starred on NBC's song writing show Songland (2019) to choose a song to be featured in the movie.

David Leitch's first PG-13 film.

This is the second Fast & Furious movie to not feature Vin Diesel, besides 2 Fast 2 Furious.

During the setup for the final battle Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) wears a shirt with a number 7 on it. Dwayne Johnson is a 7 time WWE Champion

In one scene, Hobbs is wearing a t-shirt with the number 7 on it. This could be a nod to Johnson's production company, which is called Seven Bucks Productions.

When Shaw, Hobbs, and his family are trying to bring down the helicopter, their cars start to dangle from it, referencing Fast & Furious 6 where Dom's team is trying to bring down the Antonov plane.

When Shaw said, "Are you gonna hit me with a chair?" Hobbs says, " No, I'm gonna turn the sumbitch sideways and stick it down your throat". The phrase was partially used by Johnson during his WWE days.

McLaren Technology Centre, the headquarter of McLaren Formula One racing team as well as McLaren Automotive, was used as a film location. Some of McLaren employees also appeared in the film as extras.

Ryan Reynolds joked that he should play Deadpool in the film.

This is the third time that Eddie Marsan got killed in David Leitch movie after Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2.

This is the third film Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart appeared in, after "Central Intelligence" and "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle".

Many fans of Game of Thrones (2011) were dismayed that Locke (Ryan Reynolds) spoils the ending of the series in a middle-credit scene, since many of them had not seen the final season yet.

With Ryan Reynolds playing along and not having his name in the main credits, he brought a few fellow actors along from one of his last action flicks! Rob Delaney 'Peter' in "Deadpool 2" was 'Agent Loeb' in "Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw". Also, Eddie Marsan who was in "Hobbs and Shaw" as 'Doctor Andreiko'. He was the sadistic 'Headmaster' in "Deadpool 2", also!
