'What if an ordinary man, honest and principled teacher, becomes the President? Would he be able to survive in the world of high politics, overcome all obstacles and corruption, confront the oligarchs and all political opponents?'
It's 2019, all bets are off. Once again an outlier, TV personality, comedian is elected President. Was this film part of well planned conspiracy to steal an election, a droll coincidence, or just another sign of the times? In any event, it's a wry self-commentary on political life in the Ukraine. Take it with a strong dose of salt, but right now we all need a moment of comic relief. Yes one could call it absurd, but so is the daily newsfeed. Let's hope Zelensky still has his sense of humor and will make good use of his sitcom apprenticeship for his Presidency.
