  • Warning: Spoilers
Read the title "Jay-Z Feat. Beyoncé: Part II - On the Run" here and you find the name of the song as well of the two performers in this music video from 2014 that has its 5th anniversary this year. Yep it is the perhaps most famous African American married couple's take on the legendary crime couple Bonnie & Clyde. But the outcome is highly disappointing. Beyoncé is such an amazing singer at her peak, but there is nothing to see here, not because she can't but because she is held back. Jay-Z isn't much better and also nowhere near his best level. The film loses itself in fast flickering shots and pointless scenes of a car passing by a house. Instead they rely on the duo, especially Beyoncé changing outfits constantly. No idea what director Matsoukas had on her mind here if she was also in charge of writing these particular scenes. The song is also fairly shallow, slightly catchy at its best moments, but overall another big disappoinment. Spanning the bridge from B&C to Bee and Z certainly did not work out and not even the black-and-white parts felt artistic and I am saying this as somebody who generally really loves b&w. Hopefully there won't be a part 3 if there wasn't already. Instead it should be back to the roots for this duo and back too when they were really amazing musicians. What is especially disappointing is how this turned out if you take a look at the cast list. Some really really strong names there, you can check them out for yourself and none of them is seen longer than a few seconds. What a waste of talent. Don't listen to the record, don't watch the music video. Highly not recommended.
