The second season covering the year 1993 is a little disappointing.

Possibly it's the comparison with a great first season (refer to 1992's review) that spoils this one. The invention, subtle satire and allure of scenes, people and story-lines are not on par with what the writers did with 1992.

Although we get to finally meet one of the most fascinating (and discussed when not simply baffling) protagonists of Italian history (Berlusconi), this season feels artificial and trite. The few flaws of the first season don't disappear and start to become the underwhelming standard.

I blame mostly the writers because they had more than a year (I guess so by the release dates) to create something valuable. I get it that mixing fiction and history is quite the task (especially when you're going to get bashed if you mess with sensitive buttons) but still: the memorable scenes are 1 every 10 of the first season. The rest of the production (with very few exceptions) did a great job again.

While waiting for the next (and final as far as I know) season on 1994, I suggest you give it a try anyway.
