That's enough criticism for such a MAMMOTH project. The people of India are grateful to you all for giving life to such a Great Person again . IT IS A REVOLUTION INDEED. The work you have done, I am in short of words to express my gratitude. Never imagine that type of series made in India. Jai Hind.

    Warning: Spoilers
10/10 Undoubtedly the best effort till date to portray the Greatest leader of the Nation. Serious flaw : 1.Timeline. This "Back and forth" approach is seriously hampering the flow of the story. The Editor should keep it straight according to the timeline as far as possible . The incidents are very complex to understand. And they take place in so many countries, that the common people will get confused what happened when and why.

    2. Leader of the mass No shot was there where Netaji is shown addressing a huge crowd as a congress leader. Thus a fresher won't realize what a popular leader he was. 3. Cornered by the congress and British This part could have been a little elaborated.

That's enough criticism for such a MAMMOTH project. The people of India are grateful to you all.... for giving life to such a Great Person again . IT IS A REVOLUTION INDEED. The work you have done, I am in short of words to express my gratitude. Jai Hind.

Rajkumar Rao proves his mettle once again! Do not miss this one! Acting is really good for most part of it. The sets look authentic. Music is top notch! Highly recommend it.

P.S. To all the critiques(Especially the one guy who talked about people who liked it being high), you are only supposed express your opinions about the show, not the viewers. No reason to judge people who like it. If your entire life is predicated on looking down upon others based on their choice of movies/TV series, maybe you need to grow up and comprehend the concept of 'Different taste-buds'. Also, you lead a sorry life!

Its phenomenal.....Rajkummar Rao has proved it again.

Its like a movie.....one can watch the series at one go....as the episodes are of short duration.

    Great acting....superb dialogues....Do Not Miss.

Wish it was made lengthy enough like big time series.

Don't get mislead by the negative reviews.
  • This series leads me to write my first review on IMDb. Amazing acting by Rajkumar Rao as usual. Story and screenplay is amazing. Salute to Balaji films for bringing such controversial issue in well manner. Must see for all Indian. Create interest in such a way that you will complete all episodes in one go.
  • It is the best web-series ever created in India. Everything about it is just Brilliant and Excellent, everything from direction to music and from writing to cliffhangers left at the end of every single episode. Its a nicely paced series, once you start watching it you will never want to leave it making it a Binge worthy. Its completely different from any Indian clichés out there on the web. In fact the music is so awesome that you will never want to skip the intro that is played in the beginning of episode. Beside the casting for this show is just the most worthy cast for their roles. Even the director has left some major twists that will make your mind go "WHAT?". After watching the series I just want to say to you that if you haven't seen it already you really don't know what you are missing!
  • Bose: Dead or Alive brings the legend of Subhas Bose alive, for this generation of audience. It was managed well, acting was mostly, above average, I would like to think the adaptation from the book was good, but looks like the liberty was taken to remove the controversial portions- which again must be seen as appropriate for the larger audience, cinematography and screen play were almost- good.

Over all, this series, inspired me to start digging further on Bose and mysteries surrounding him, all over again. So, it manages to leave an impact.

This is something 1.3 billion people should watch.
  • Simply the best web-series in India till date. Those who have not watched it must especially if you are grateful to those who sacrificed their lives to let us breathe in a free country. Bose was the greatest revolutionary ofIndia for no doubt and undoubtedly this series is the bravest attempt to his life and struggle in a stormy way. Rajkumar Rao take a bow for his superb acting as usual and scripts, story and music are super-thrilling! Heartiest thanks to Ekta Kapoor and Alt Balaji for choosing a subject like this and show respect to the liberator of India. Wish it was lengthier as the series would live you want to see and learn more about the inside truth of the biggest mystery of India and you will end up watching it again and again and again! Hope another season comes!

The TV show is really good, all the way through watching experience is good. Really enjoyed the history that is covered.

Raj Kumar acting is really good, in fact, all the actors did really well.

But how much factual and correctness is there, that can only be known with enough knowledge on this topic.

Must watch it guys.the story of bose is truly inspirational one.
  • It works better if its the only take you have seen. Sadly for me not the case.

The constructing angle was quite brilliant with filming quote he has done it in past he could do it again.

A must watch, especially if you respect freedom struggle!
  • Bose could move thousands of people with his speech. Unfortunately we do not see speeches that moved people in the series. His speeches could give goosebumps. Music also plays a good role in arisng feelings. Music was not good. The story was tilted to the idea that he was alive. But as we know there is no proof. Viewers would have much liked more stories of his lifetime. Finally , it was not upto my expectations.
  • BOSE : DEAD or Alive.. Does it matter or not.. Yes it always matter...!!

This Alt Balaji's classic take on Netaji is great in attitude & adrenaline rush.. Although I don't like Indian web series because they treat their audience like fools.. But this Series delivers exactly what it depict..

Why to watch it.:--- 1. Short episodes approx 18 min each (excluding opening & closed credits) 2. Focus on Netaji's attitude & style without distraction.. 3. Series is too fast that you can't even blink.. its like short thrill ride with patriotic feelings... 4. Great performance by Rajkumar Rao & other actors (full of energy)

Don't Watch if:-- 1. You expect some history lesson. 2. You expect some detailed & traditional narration..

My recommendation is to enjoy this revolutionary pill which fills your heart with excitement & patriotism...
  • One of the much needed kind of series to watch for.
  • Wud he have been the PM had he been alive is not a question that has a straightforward an answer.Had Netaji been alive,he wud have had to contend with not Nehru, but Patel for the post.Jawaharlal wud have been a fine choice for the external affairs minister for either of them. But that is not the point of this web series.

This series is based on Anuj Dhar's book which explores various conspiracy theories related to Netaji's disappearance in 1945.Even without the mystery surrounding his death and disappearance,Netaji's life exudes a certain kind of romance that perhaps only Bhagat Singh's can match. His escape from house arrest in early 40s is stuff of legends. He managed to overcome Gandhi and Nehru's opposition to win the elections for Congress Presidency in 1938 and 1939.His antics in college as a student leader, organizing 2000 khaki clad supporters on the streets of Calcutta in 1928,getting elected as Mayor of Calcutta ,attempt to sell Khadi to Price of Wales ,selection and resignation from ICS, his meeting with Hitler, his slogans and radio broadcasts, organization of INA ,the campaign in Andaman-Burma and NE,and his tribute to Gandhi addressing him as Father Of The Nation, are all glorious episodes of Indian history.

And this is exactly my problem with the we series. They have far too little screen time.A 21 minute episode has a minute and half of opening credits and then three and half minutes of some loud, screeching bangla rock song playing at closing credits. These feel quite anachronistic .The background score of the series is over the top and belongs in a Guy ritchie film. The total runtime of 144-150 minutes ,distributed over nine episodes is quite less to accommodate everything.Sure ,u have made a casting coup in that u have the best (most versatile) actor of the generation ,Rajkumar Rao playing Subhash. What joy is there in watching this actor at the height of his prowess. His mannerisms are perfect, his eyes convey so much. His body language is confidence personified, and RR is always in charge .Given the format /script of the show, the director has chosen to only show flashes of various incidents/events and historical moments. Its imperative then that he portrays Bose only as a hero, and not as a human. The net result is that Rajkumar doesn't get the opportunity to showcase Bose's vulnerabilities and possible insecurities. This is our Netaji as we see in posters adorned on walls, the commander-in-chief of Azad Hind Fauz, the hope of a nation. Naveen Kasturia has done some good work over the years for TVF and in Suleimani Keeda. He plays a fictional character of an Indian cop in the film, who has had close association with Netaji over the years.Although his voice-over of the series is not quite good, but he has given an honest performance as Darbara singh.Rest all characters,be it the English policemen,INA associates,Gandhi,Nehru,Bose's family members and Emily Shaenkel, have all been rendered caricatures .

A jarring note for me was how the dialogues between historical figures have been written.Jawahar might have addressed Bose as Subash,Bose or Mr Bose, but somehow I dunt buy the idea that Subhash (eight years younger) wud have addressed the former as Nehru (neither privately, nor in public). This is not how we address each other in India, not not,and certainly not then.Nehru and MKG have been spared the tags of villain, despite obvious temptations.

The series does suggest that Netaji might not have died in Formosa in 1945.He possibly didn't even board that flight. There were rumours regarding a lot of gold, and treachery by some of its associates.Maybe he was spotted in Manchuria, and went to Russia from there. The circumstances related to his death and the shabby investigation post-death don't quite add up.The truth will never be known. That is the worst part .Why could/do we not have some counterfactual history .Philip Roth wrote The Plot Against America in which he imagined a scenario in which Charles Lindberg ( a record breaking pilot and a Nazi sympathizer)becomes the US president in 1940,and a wave of anti-semitism grips America. What wud have happened had Bose, who collaborated with Nazis and the Axis powers ,survived the war .Would he have been tried at the famous Tokyo Trials ? Or with Dhillo, sehgal and shahnawaz at the Red Fort Trials ? Bose was a socialist(maybe even a communist) at heart.Would we have seen a USSR-like polit bureau system ? Would he just have collaborated with Nehru and ousted Patel and the conservative section from the Congress ?

I highly recommend this Web series.Hansal Mehta (producer) and RK Rao has given us Shahid,Aligarh and City Lights, and now I look forward to their next offering Omerta. If u cant afford to read the book,at least watch this. The script cud have been written better, run time could easily have been longer, characters cud have been rounder and music could have been less shrill. As for watching something that presents Bose, the man ,maybe we can wait a bit longer.I ,for one,am very interested in the Patel-Nehru-Gandhi-Bose interpersonal relationships. But not much has been written on it,certainly not as a complete work in itself.
  • This Series was beyond my Expectations. I seriously never thought it would be this good. Beautifully driven, directed and delivered. Many Indians don't even know much about Netaji and believed what media wrote. This series clears all doubt and leaves you feeling thrilled and proud. What a brilliant and skilled man he was who gave his everything to his country. Must watch.
  • This movie is outstanding that's it....RajKumar Rao as Netaji is perfect,he dedicated himself for this movie... everyone did wonderful acting..
  • Best indian series i have seen so far! great job ekta and it's team. actor did the best thing.
  • Bose dead or alive , unbelieveble performance by rajkumar rao , this web series is mind blowing i watched first episode then it made me watched all the episode and guys you won't believe it, i watched continuesly, its gripping totally well picturisation and Nice background music , specially i loved Bangla song Bose.

Worth watching it Every Indian should watch this.
  • Not sure why it didn't reach the popularity that it should have but its a terrific series and a must watch!!
  • The plot, summing up straight is about Bose's life, moreover Bose's secret life, about how he used to go around confusing his opponents and in the end almost always getting things the way he planned. For those who don't know, the death of this man is a topic debated on India for several decades, many people don't believe that he died on the plane crash, leaving India with a topic that conspiracy theorists would grasp upon quickly, making it something which people yet debate upon.

Coming to the acting, I felt it was a little disappointing to see Rajkummar Rao's take on it, though apt, it's not like Bose never smiled. Though he did speak slowly, but it wasn't quite the way Bose actually did, moreover him quickly switching to Bengali and then to Hindi randomly wasn't quite as appealing as they tried to make it. Here, Naveen Kasturia plays the role of Darbari Lal, an Indian police officer working directly under the British officers. He maintains respect for Bose and is annoyed by him at the same time while he's doing his duty of trying to track Bose down. Seems to be a simple character. Isn't. Quite a complicated, yet funny character. No one but Kasturia could have bettered it, he really proves his skills here, we've not seen him do such kinds of role before, and it actually took me a while to figure out that his character was really being played by him. Brilliant, brilliant acting by Naveen Kasturia. Once again proving his worth and I might even go about saying that I already find him one of the best actors in the film industry.

The story makes some bold statements on Congress and Gandhi's ideologies, though I personally felt they were logical, it was something that I feel could have offended a certain section. The plot, though was pretty interesting in general and sure kept you hooked up till the very end. However, some sections were just plain unrealistic.

The scripting and direction were okay, not the best that I've ever seen, but certainly one of the best I've seen from India.

The soundtracks seemed to come out of nowhere and they really seemed elongated and just sometimes... was out of tone really. In my opinion the soundtracks were the worst part.

    Ratings:

    Acting: 9/10 Plot: 8/10 Direction: 7/10 Soundtrack: 4/10

Summary: Good, but not as great as reviewers have been portraying it.

Disclaimer: These are all personal opinions.
  • Firstly, I specifically took my time and made an account on IMDb to review this. So you can understand this is 'that' bad. People rating it 10 or 9s are definitely on meth or are from Balaji's PR team. The beginning was very poor, with nothing feeling even a little authentic. Everything looks likes a desperate childish attempt. The real story was great and they could've done this in million different ways but, sadly, this is the worst outcome that anyone can expect. Even RajKumar Rao couldn't help to make this watchable. The only good thing is the title song. Not the performance, not the casting, not the direction, not the set, not the locations, not the props, literally nothing in it was good. It's 3am and I'm feeling sorry for myself to have wasted my time and sleep for this.

I'll try to write in points-

    1. No one's performance can be called even average, only Officer Stanley was good. Dialogue delivery, facial expressions are just pathetic.

    2. They completely failed to portray Neta Ji's bold personality. All characters are underdeveloped.

    3. They talk about Neta ji's army, how he got so many people standing with him. But you never see him addressing a mob, only group of 5- 6 guys which look like thugs.

    4. Netaji went to Burma, Afghanistan, Russia, Japan, Germany in it, but it seems they have shooted the whole series in a single set.

    5. The appearance and make-up is just like the daily soaps where they even sleep wearing heavy jewelries and those heavy sarees. Neta Ji's hair looks like someone put a razor on his head while he was sleeping. He never looks like an old man but clearly a young 20s guy wearing body suits to show the extra weight. People were dying of hunger and poverty and all the atrocities of British govt. but they all had time to clean wash their clothes and then well iron them. In the complete 9 episode series I didn't saw a single person who really appears to be poor. Hell Gandhi Ji took some time to clean shave his hairs on legs, so that don't look messy.

There are a lot of other bad things to say, and not a single positive. So I'm just gonna advise you to not waste your time on it. You are bored, go watch YouTube trending, even that would be much much better than this.
  • One individual may die for an idea, but that idea will, after his death, incarnate itself in a thousand lives. Love you netaji...🖤
  • The entire cast of the Bose Dead or Alive did a fantastic job. A must watch web series.
