Five years after the events of Mamma Mia! (2008), Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother's past.
Though the film is set in Greece (in the fictional island of Kalokairi), it wasn't shot in the country like the first one. Due to economic decisions, the location chosen for this installment instead was the small Croatian island of Vis.

Donna says her mother's heart was broken after a romance in Central America. Ruby's romance with Fernando happened in Mexico in 1959. However, Mexico is in North America. At one point, she even sings about crossing the Rio Grande River into the US.
An after-credits scene between young Harry and the passport checker. After young Harry leaves, the passport checker looks at the camera and begins his rendition of "Take a Chance on Me."
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again! has an alternative version. There is the Theatrical Version (the one we all saw) and the Original Version. The Original Version includes the full Knowing Me, Knowing You, The Name Of The Game, an alternative End Credits and the deleted song, I Wonder (Departure). Instead of the Theatrical 1:48:53 time length, the original version has a length of 1:55:21.
