  • Excellently directed and acted characters.

The beautiful feeling we get after the 1st half seeing hero as an inspiring CM can't be explained. And audience are carrying the same inspiration from movie too.

Director carried a true leader vision in the entire movie but handled the pre-climax plot with partly baked commercial scenes.

Well done Koratala and Mahesh! Thumps up for your conviction.
  • First of all i dont even know how is this movie rated so high,9.3 for this kind of movie, this is definitely an overrated movie,i watched movie with zero expectations and i would say it is not a bad movie but it is not a great movie,it is a good attempt but it could have been better, had this movie had focussed more on reality and less on commercialisation
  • Bharat Ane Nenu stands out as a best political drama release in this decade, after Leader. Bharat Ane Nenu is one film which will be celebrated by Superstar Mahesh Babu fans for a long time. Bharat Ane Nenu is a honest and sincere attempt from Koratala Siva and Mahesh Babu. Bharat Ane Nenu's plot resembles as Leader movie in the first 15 mins and it is quite predictable and the climax resembles Prasthanam movie but Director Koratala Siva executed those scenes in his own way. The major issues like traffic, media, education, villages development and government schools establishment and hospitals in village has been essayed very well in this movie. Credit goes to Koratala Siva for establishing those issues and linking them with the plot of the movie, he dealt them very well. We will discuss minus points in the first place, there are no major minus points that could affect the movie but there are trivial. Story line is quite routine and can be easily predicted. The length of the movie is quite long because of the slow screenplay and narration. There is no comedy as the movie runs on a serious note, yet we can get few smiles on our faces with Brahmaji's one liners in the first half. Coming to the plus points now, there are many. Mahesh Babu outshines in his role and performs stupendously. His conviction and dedication made his role looks so natural. He is comletely fitted in Chief Minister's role. Mahesh's voice suited very well for the oath too. Mahesh Babu delivered his career best performance in this movie. His acting in major scenes brings lot of depth to the film, especially in a scene where he interacts with the media. He justified again why he is Superstar of Tollywood with this film. He looks so young and ravishing in this film, credits must be given to Siva for portraying him very extraordinarily. He is remarkable as an aggressive CM who chooses an unconventional path to set the things right. This role will be cherished forever by him as this role comes once in a lifetime for any hero. The way he moulded himself to look like CM is pretty impressive. Kiara Advani marks her debut in Tollywood and delivers a decent performance. She provides ample support to Mahesh Babu in her limited role. She got less space and scope to prove herself yet she is remarkable. She will have a bright future in Tollywood for sure. Brahmaji is too good in his role. Prakash Raj delivers another spectacular performance with this movie. Coming to the director Koratala Siva, we can say that he delivered another blockbuster to Telugu Film Industry. His direction and execution is flawless. There are no drawbacks on his part. His classy and massy elevations given to Mahesh Babu are laudable. Devi Sri Prasad's music is fabulous and so was his background score. But songs like O Vasumathi and Ide Kalala Unnade comes like speed breakers and halts the flow of the film. Production values are top notch. Editing is below par as the film is very long and few scenes or songs can be easily trimmed. Art direction is astonishing as the Assembly set looks so real and grand on screen. Cinematography by Thiru is astounding as every visual looks so rich and the color template of the film is damn good. Dialogues are extremely impressive as each and every dialogue uttered by Mahesh Babu are heart touching and thought provoking. On the whole, Bharat Ane Nenu is the best work by Koratala Siva and Mahesh Babu. Bharat Ane Nenu is the best political drama that came out after Leader. This movie is a feast to Mahesh Babu's fans, regular cinema goers and cinema lovers. This is a movie that will be remembered and cherished for a very long time. If you can ignore the length of the movie, slow screenplay and narration then you can enjoy the movie thoroughly. Bharat Ane Nenu is the first blockbuster of this summer season. Don't miss it.
  • I saw Bharat Ane Nenu and I liked the movie.

In these days of extreme corruption and Chalta Hai attitude of the Citizen, It requires some guts for a Director to take a movie enunciating a Strict, Upright and Corruption Free Value system. Self-Governance and Direct Financial Allocation to the Villages, Huge Fines & Stringent Penalties to the non-abiding citizen, Combination of Highest Level of Moral & Intellectual Integrity, Leadership by Example, Purpose, Focus plus Super Human Physical Strength of the Chief Minister, are brought out very clearly. Movie is a must watch by each and every citizen and while most will laugh it out as impractical fiction, at least Director Koratala Siva and Brand Mahesh Babu would have sown a seed of introspection in one and all.

Mahesh Babu who plays the Chief Minister is extremely Handsome, Strong and Acts Very Well 5/5 Prakash Raj who plays the Party Chief and role of the Villain is Simply Brilliant 5/5 Heroine and all other Character Actors have done complete justice to their roles 4/5 Music by D S P is good 4/5 Movie & Storyline 4/5
  • There is a tipping point which actors often fail to reach time and again. But once they reach that, they find a pandora's box that's filled with unfulfilled promises, expectations, and hope. It's at this juncture, that you desperately wish that actor will rise above his own shortcomings to unleash some sort of a magic spell, which heals your scars from the past.

With Bharat Ane Nenu, Mahesh Babu not only crosses the tipping point but also breaks open the pandora's box and burns the unfulfilled promises to ashes, to show why he's such a fine actor. You can't take your eyes off when he's on screen pulling off his role with utmost sincerity and conviction. You might go gaga over his looks, but the most charming thing about Mahesh Babu in this film, in particular, is that there's an air of confidence he exudes. He's in full control of what he's doing.

Cast: Mahesh Babu, Kiara Advani, Prakash Raj, Posani, Brahmaji, and Others Director and Writer: Koratala Siva Producers: DVV Dannayya DOP: Ravi K Chandran and Thirru Music: Devi Sri Prasad Editor: A Sreekar Prasad Banner: DVV Entertainments Rating:3.0/5.0 Release Date: 20th April 2018 Story

Bharat Ram(Mahesh Babu) is an Oxford graduate with 5 degrees to his name. He returns to India after the demise of his father Raghava Raju(Sharath Kumar) and takes charge as the Chief Minister of the then united Andhra Pradesh owing to pressure from his father's friend Varada Raju (Prakash Raj) without knowing ABCDs of Indian politics. Just like any educated person, he starts ruling the state on his own terms right from the day 1. This creates a ruckus in his own party members and as the head of the party, it starts worrying Varada Raju. Bharat starts changing all the rules and regulations in the state to bring in a positive change in the never growing society. In the process, he falls for Vasumathi (Kiara Advani) who is a girl from a middle-class family preparing for her civils. How will Bharat cope with the political pressure and what are the consequences he will have to face? Will his good deeds do him any good?

    Performances:

After that four disasters in his last five films, the character of Bharat and Mahesh's performance in it are truly game-changer for the Superstar. It is amazing to note the tremendous transformation he went through in the film. He set aside the subtleness and delivered an energetic performance in the film. His dialogue delivery suiting the political theme is also good.

As an Oxford graduate, he had to have a foreign touch in his dialogue delivery and he has absolutely nailed every scene of it. His screen presence is terrific throughout the movie as usual.

Kiara Advani as Vasumathi is a delight to watch and is so expressive. For a slow-paced first half, her presence was so refreshing. Not for a single scene, you feel like it is her first movie in TFI.

Prakash Raj gets another important role after a long time and he was at his usual best.Posani as MLA managed few laughs here and there.

Rao Ramesh as Vasumathi's father gets a small role and he made his presence felt. Brahmaji was good as well. Aamani had a short role and she was okay. Arjun Reddy fame Rahul Rama Krishna gets another good role. All other roles did not have much importance.

    Technical:

Koratala Siva is successful as soon as he selects a time-tested political theme and redesigned Mahesh Babu to fit in it. Some of the blocks which he has written are terrific but then due to run-time issues, he struggled to justify them. But they are still enough to pump the adrenaline of fans. The movie has some major highlight every now and then. Contentwise we see they are not adequately addressed but they still deliver. Some excellent dialogues are also on offer. The good thing is the director stayed loyal to the script and did not embed comedy forcefully. The love track is also in sync with the story. A couple of fights, the Pressmeet scene stand tall for Koratala's ability and Mahesh's redemption.

Devi Sri Prasad excelled with the background score and the songs are good as well.

Ravi K Chandran and Tirru's visuals are excellent. A Sreekar Prasad's editing could have been better. The Production Values are immaculate.

    Analysis:

To start with, the movie opened with "I don't know" song which reminds you of Venkatesh's movies where he has an opening song with foreign chicks. The director brings Bharat back to India, shows him the current situation of AP and makes him a Chief Minister. But you would get an impression that the narration is a bit slow paced. As the movie was going slow, Vasumathi characterization brings a freshness to the screen.

When dealing with sensitive scripts like this, it is important that the director doesn't deviate from the storyline to bring in unnecessary comedy and the director was spot on. One has to commend him for that. The only quotient of entertainment was the chemistry between Mahesh and Kiara augmented by Brahmaji's comedy once in a while. The internal politics in a state where one party has to support another party in tough times is a known thing in Indian politics and Siva koratala narrated this brilliantly marking the end of first half. The Durga mahal fight and the assembly scenes are the highlights until then.

Mahesh Babu has always been a director's delight throughout his career and he proves it time and again. A director and his story might fail but Mahesh Babu as an actor has never failed to perform. His dialogues and fights are a treat to watch. Especially in the second half on how Bharat is coping with the political pressures and the measures he took to save Rahul Ramakrishna and the way the pace in the movie picks up was impressive. Mahesh babu's speech in the press conference is one of the highlights of the movie. As a fan, you would want to get up and clap after that scene. The movie again drags a bit in the climax. The runtime needs a little trimming.

Except for the irregular pace in the narration, the director had done nothing wrong in the movie. His ideology in changing the current Education system, especially in government schools having English medium and the ways to make traffic better and how Media is making money with sensationalizing news was very well shot. The DOP Thiru was equally good with the visuals. All the songs looked so pleasant and DSP again proves that he gives the best background score in TFI, especially for big hero movies where it plays a crucial role. The movie might not please all the kinds of the audience but it is a much-needed movie for bringing a change in the current society.

    Verdict

At the end of the day, watching a Koratala Siva's film feels like reading a book. He has consistently proven to be a good storyteller, and with Bharat Ane Nenu, he has shown yet again that there's plenty of drama when a normal guy takes an uncommon path. Bharat might have become the messiah of the state in the story, but it's Mahesh Babu who leaves a long lasting impression in the end. Two big thumbs up for the film. It delivers more than what it promises.
  • The film directed by koratala shiva and starred by mahesh babu and kiara advani is an overall above average movie. Slow first half and good second half except the climax. Till pre-climax the movie looks like it is going to be a superhit but climax spoiled the content. All departments have worked to their best. Mahesh babu shown his stamina in acting but there are scenes which need to be trimmed. Will work for a week or two if and only if there is no blockbuster in the middle of its way. Finally super star is back not with a bang but with a good content driven commercial drama. In the director point of view, of all 4 films those he directed, Bharat ane nenu will stand last but in the content it stands first. Final verdict: Every politician and media people should see the movie at least twice not for the entertainment but for the way they need to behave in the society.
  • After 'srimanthudu' Mahesh Babu and Koratala Siva Combo Does it again. And, it is a much needed break for Mahesh Babu. we all know how good koratala siva is at carrying both class and commercial elements. As usual mahesh babu steal the show with his intense performance. Coming to Kiara Advani, she has done a marvellous job to her character. Not only lead actors the entire team has given their best.

Verdict: One shouldn't miss this political drama.
  • nareshece22 April 2018
Ideology is good. But lacks practical aspects like movie in Leader..Leader was way better than this movie....But Acting wise concept wise a good one... Being amateur to politics, it was shown as if there was no opposition.. Crude aspects of politics is lacking.. Songs are good.. Dance is ok...
  • Koratala Siva has directed a film that appeals to both class and mass groups. Learning from his mistakes in his previous films, especially from his weak and unsettlingly quick climaxes, he has drastically improved. As for the performances, Mahesh Babu has delivered one of the best performances of his career. Not only him, but all supporting cast members have also delivered aptly.

What to expect: Political Drama with Commercial Indian Cinema Elements

Pros: Storyline, Production, Cinematography, Direction, Performances, Dialogues, Background Score

Cons: Some Lagging Moments (Necessary for Character Development; Excusable)

    Final Rating: 10/10
  • Warning: Spoilers
Cinematography was excellent, but the story was a routine one. There were some good performances by Prakash Raj and Mahesh Babu, but the rest of the flock had a very small role in the huge film. Songs were well shot but their positioning during the movie was so awful. Overall I can say, same old story with a bit of entichment in the colors.
  • Review : Bharat Ane Nenu - Best CM

Bharat Ane Nenu is from the stable of super star Mahesh Babu-Koratala Siva has hit the screens today with high voltage expectations and and also fan jubiliations . Coming after Srimanthudu in the win -win combination of Mahesh Babu- K Shiva has the hero in CM role and the trailer released had promised huge record breaking at box office as a youth quotient is very high.

What all that Mahesh Babu does as CM and his message is all open for public and fans to rush to the screens .

Story : Bharat Ram ( Mahesh Babu) had to abruptly give up his studies at Oxford University and return to India after death of his CM father (Sharat Kumar) . He is pressurised and pushed by party leaders into his father's place as CM, inspite of his inexperience and . The film is about his journey of learning experience and how he develops the state manages the conspiracies of his opponents . His message to opposition and people , perhaps in the wake of fluid conditions in the state currently is the concept.

    Plus Points :

    * Mahesh Babu acting * Kortala direction * Story * Music and Cinematography

    Minus Points :

    * Slow pace and narration in second half

    Percormance of Actors :

    * Mahesh Babu as usual stellar performance in his debut role as young and stylist CM and appears cast for him and brought laurels for the role as CM for united AP. His punch political dialogues and his performance has earned mass appeal .

    * Kaira Advani with debut performance in MS Doni film in Bollywood has stunned everyone as Vasumati ,lover of Mahesh , and matched Mahesh in both glamour and acting despite being her first Telugu movie.

    * Character actor Sharat Kumar as CMs father is back in Telugu industry after a long gap and director has enlivened his role with dialogues etc.

    * Yesteryear heroine Amani is back in Mahesh Babu mother role .

    * Rau Ramesh as father of Vasumati has done justice to his role and Ajay, Srinivas is Mahesh's brother in good role .

    * Though for a short while Brahmaji has brought out laughs and Prakash Raj is in his full form in usual role.

    * Rama Prabha, Devaraj, Sitara, Posani Krishna Murali, Devadas Kanakala,Ravi Sankar,Jia, Yaschal Shara etc have brought a richness to the film.

    Technical Wing :

    * Devi Sri Prasad music has been a major combination with the story and his background score is super . Like the song Vachadayya Swami of Srimanthudu ,the title song of Bharat ane Nenu has become hugely popular .

    * Cinematography pf Ravi K Chandran,S Thurru is just matic particularly the assembly scene and the glamor shots of hero and heroine has been embedded in the film.

    * Art direction of Suresh Selvarajan ,particularly in assembly and other sets stand out as highlight of the film. The interval fights, climax fights of Ram Lakshman stunt director is a hit with mass audience .

    * Srikar Prasad and his editing has given more stamina and value to the film .

    * The producer Danayya of DVV entertainment banner has lavishly spent on the movie to give story and concept a new look.

    * Lastly director Koratala has been on block buster hit journey as his other films -Mirchi,Srimanthudu and Janata Garage- have done a hat trick for him . His teaming with Mahesh has spiraled expectations .

    * Koratala has summed up the audience and fan expectations in the film which mirrored the fluid political situation and has given an equitable dose of both class and mass look to the film .

Finally : Mahesh has brought a new look and concept to politics in the Bharat Ane Nenu as he did in Srimanthudu where he adopted a village. Here hs shows what a CM should do for developing the state and fulfilling peoplesaspirations instead of garnering enough bribes for generations of his family.

At the press meet of CM Mahesh has mirrored the concept of the director through his punch dialogues and also thought provoking words for the media . For his story selection and performance Mahesh Babu could bag the best actor award easily and the film could have a rain of medals .

Over all Bharat Ane Nenu is the portrayal of what and how a CM should deliver and conduct himself. The young CMs in waiting in both states of AP and Telangana should take cue and lessons from Mahesh Babu role, dialogues and also concepts .
  • It is an average movie story wise and good commercial movie. plus points: music, direction, Mahesh screen presence minus points:the movie is like Leader movie, the emotion is not worked anywhere
  • The plus point of this movie is the way movie is shot. To be more specific, the songs, surrounding and especially fights. The male lead of the film Mr Mahesh babu has done really well, especially during emotional scenes. The female lead Ms kiara advani has done well. Her subtle yet noticeable expressions, capture the user's eye. Apart from few one or two under performances, the acting of the team was great. Sadly, this is where the good things about the movie stop. The story as a whole might not seem routine as a whole, but few parts of the story seem very trite and routine. There are also few logical flaws in the story line that makes one wonder how could a director miss them. why then, was this movie rated so high ? Well, a substantial amount of credit should be attributed to the present day horrible political system, that people crave to change in the country's politics and development, so much that they try to slake their thirst even through a 3 hr movie potraying quixotic political environment with apparent logical flaws. If anything, this movie should be under the socio-fantasy section. It eleviates the hero character to an unrealistic level. It is very sad that the amazing acting skills displayed by the actors go waste due to flaws in the story. Definitely, an over rated movie.
  • Bharat Ane Nenu is a movie that happens in United Andhra Pradesh with Mahesh Babu playing the role of an upright, young and dynamic Chief Minister who abides by his promises for the upliftment of weaker sections, is directed by blockbuster director Koratala Siva and has Kiara Advani as the leading lady.

    Story:

Oxford University graduate and UK resident, Bharat returns to home country India, following a tragedy in his family. Due to lobbying among rival factions, God Father Varada makes Bharat as next CM of Andhra Pradesh. Stricken by the poor living standards of the people in India, Bharat dons the role of a reformist Chief Minister. His honest and rapid steps to bring responsibility and accountability in the society and in the ruling party, form the story.

    Performances:

Mahesh delivers a superb performance that his fan have been anticipating for years. He has donned many class roles, few diverse roles but movies that elevate Mahesh have been missing. In this film, director Koratala rightly played to Mahesh's strengths by combining class elements with hero elevation. Mahesh's role is that of a suave, young and dynamic Chief Minster- his styling in this film is unarguably his career best.

Prakash Raj in a God Father role delivered a composed performance yet again. Time and again, he proves there is just no replacement for him in South Indian cinema. Debutante (in Telugu) Kiara Advani is a good choice for Vasumathi role , she looked pleasant. Brahmaji delivered nice comedy as PS to CM Bharath. Tamil actor Sharat Kumar played Mahesh's father's role, Amani and Sitara played mother, step-mother roles. Ajay, Rao Ramesh, Jeeva,Posani Krishna murali, Devraj got limited roles.

    Analysis:

Bharat Ane Nenu starts off in a cool, classy manner and kicks up the commercial elements at right intervals throughout. Bharat impresses with quick decisions after taking charge as CM - as an amateur CM, his quick learning capabilities, funny assembly scenes etc... make this film's first half a racy entertainer. If you follow Telugu politics regularly you can't miss some uncanny resemblances to real life characters (A lady MLA in Opposition party who is dressed well, son of opposition party leader stuck in disproportionate asset cases etc). Without turning preachy, the director manages to carry the social responsibility, accountability threads with ease. Hero elevation in the thirty minutes pre-interval and post interval scenes are excellent. "I don't know" , "Bharat Ane Nenu" songs are well pictured in first half. "Ide Kalala Vunnadhe" song is average w.r.t tunes, but picturization is superbly rich. On a whole, songs are an asset for Bharath Ane Nenu. Producer D.V.V. Danayya must be appreciated for the lavish production scale.

Second half has super mass elements in form of Rayalaseema Durgamahal fight sequence, Vachadayyo Saami song, Peoples' Army to protect Bharath and pre-climax Press Meet which are the highlight blocks . Last song " Oh Vasumathee " is again a good attraction. Director has succeeded knitting commercial elements in second half, but story wise there is nothing out of the ordinary. CM Bharath's resignation and again becoming CM are bit farfetched. Without dragging much, a simple climax ends Bharath Ane Nenu. Family elements, heroine thread are not much of importance but came out decently.

    Technicians:

Cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran and Tirru is top class. Tunes and Background score by Devi Sri Prasad is superb yet again. Movie after movie Devi Sri Prasad is turning to be one of the key factors for success. A.Sreekar Prasad 's editing is clean. Producer DVV spent very lavishly and every rupee is visible on screen. Director Koratala has packed better commercial elements than Srimanthudu, Janatha Garage but per emotional connect his Srimanthudu work was little better.

    Positives:

Mahesh Babu as CM Bharat - Career best performance Social accountability concept Superb Songs - Visually very grand Sarcastic dig at politicians, media Heroism elevating scenes in second half Negatives:

Redundant theme (about society) in mid second half Last 10 minutes Verdict:

'Bharat Ane Nenu' is a super hit mass & class appealing film. Major highlights are Bharath's characterization, Maheshbabu's unarguably career best looks, lavish production values , Koratala's dialogues , superb songs and epic action episodes all are tightly packed. On flip side , with so many highly elevated scenes, post press meet the film "climax " is a "wee bit" let down. Overall, a commercial potboiler with solid message about social responsibility!!
  • 'I don't belong here', Bharat Ram (Mahesh Babu) tells Varadaraju (Prakash Raj) when he's asked to take over the Chief Minister's chair that lies vacant after his father's (R Sarathkumar) demise. A storm is brewing within the ruling party. Bharat, who has spent most of his growing years abroad and has channelled his void of missing out on parental love into academics, enters the imposing Chief Minister's chamber. Everything is in order except the place card on the table. Bharat sits down and gently sets it straight. With this move, director Koratala Siva establishes what Bharat will do in power - he will set things right with quietude, kicking up a storm only if necessary.

There's a certain classiness to this political drama set in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Bharat gets a taste of the city's traffic, the chaos that unfolds in the legislative assembly and the lackadaisical attitude that penetrates all through the government machinery. His calm contrasts the din, which never gets deafeningly loud on screen. It's as though we're looking at the world through Bharat's perspective. Koratala Siva harnesses Mahesh's trademark style of emoting subtly and the actor delivers a fine, mature performance. Devi Sri Prasad's music, Ravi K Chandran and Tirru's cinematography are in sync with the slick presentation.

In the opening scene we learn that Bharat isn't afraid to admit what he doesn't know and enjoys the learning curve. 'I am a fast learner,' he says and lives up to it. The narrative traces the evolution of this outsider, who occasionally falters in Telugu and finds it easier to speak in English, into the son of the soil. The transformation is gradual, brought in by his empathy with people. Simultaneously, Bharat also plugs the gap in the family bonding.

This film is a sharp contrast to Shankar's Mudhalvan (Oke Okkadu) where the face-off between Arjun and Raghuvaran and the events that follow on one day formed the film's crux. This is a different stage. Bharat, too, takes unconventional decisions but the momentum builds slowly as he understands the deep-rooted rut he's been pushed into and feels the need to clean it up.

It would have been easier to build a crowd-pleasing mass masala with this story. But the team takes the trickier route of doing it with restraint and still wins hearts. Ideas of local governance, better vigilance, and accountability on part of both the government machinery and people get discussed.

A stand-out sequence is a crucial press meet where Bharat tears into a section of media that thrives on personal slander stories for better TRPs.

Bharat Ane Nenu deserves a thumbs up for its well thought out plot and nuanced characters. Keeping us hooked to the narrative are Mahesh Babu, accompanied by Prakash Raj in another winsome and complex role, Rahul Ramakrishna, Rao Ramesh, Brahmaji and Kiara Advani among others. Kiara is impressive in her limited role and it will be interesting to see her in more substantial parts.

If there's any grouse, it's got to do with the film's length. But it doesn't really matter, since it's not often that we get films that don't take the audience for granted.
  • Hero is a son of CM and lives in a foreign country with no idea at all on Indian politics. Suddenly, his father dies and he return to India with a plan of staying for few days and return back. Unexpectedly, he becomes CM to safeguard the Government and his father' s party, upon request by his party's people. He starts doing good things and ignoring his own party people. These guys gets angry and create situations so hero resigns from CM post. Later, he understands that common people wants him back as CM and takes the chair again.

Do you feel like watched this movie already sometime back? If yes, that is not your mistake. Yes, that is the story of Leader movie and this is the same story made by/ with different people.

You feel like watching Leader & Oke Okkadu movies most part of the movie. What is special in this movie? Don't know how Koratala convinced him with this story.

I believe, it is a failure for Koratala as a story writer though few dialogues are good. Should have been better. You get goosebumps when you watch few scenes in Oke Okkadu. Very less scenes excites you in this movie. Movie goes very flat.

Mahesh babu looked handsome as usual and looked even better in formals as CM. He did his best an actor.

Not much for heroine like any other movie of big stars. She is ok.

Background music and couple of songs are good.

High production values. Cinematography is good.

Limited audience may like it, but most part may not.
  • When his father Raghava Raju (Sarathkumar), incumbent Chief Minister, passes away suddenly, Bharat Ram is thrust into the CM 'kurchi' by the ruling party's patriarch Varadaraj (played by Prakash Raj). The youngster, who just returned from London to perform his father's last rites, reluctantly accepts the position.

From word go, Bharat starts to strike at the root of problems with boldness. Unpopular decisions are his way. Day by day, his popularity in the state (the film is set in united Andhra Pradesh) soars. Meanwhile, he also falls for Vasumathi (Kiara Advani), a research scholar working on a government project.

Bharat's decision to prosecute the son of the Leader of Opposition becomes his undoing. The failure to secure justice backfires and threatens to dent his popularity.

The rest of the film is about how he tries to rise against all odds (threats posed by known and unknown quarters), only to fall prey to a conspiracy in the anti-climax phase.

    Analysis:

Koratala Siva is nothing but formula plus clever messaging (an emphasis on idealism, among others). 'Srimanthudu' was NOT about changing the face of a village, 'Swades'-style. If anything, billionaire Harsha does it in the course of a song. It was about how this Harsha fights politically-powerful land sharks with his guts. 'Janatha Garage' was NOT about environmental activism. It was mostly about a gusty son of an iconic mechanic (incidentally, he is an environmental activist) who fights against entrenched interests with his guts.

'BAN' falls in the same category. What if Bharat was a cinematic son or a heroic loyalist of an ideal Chief Minister, acting as the sole protective shield of the CM? Or what if he was just a Minister or an MP? It wouldn't have been sexy at all. So, Koratala makes him the CM himself. Rest of the story is formulaic, true to his style. This is not to say that it's just about one gimmick. Bharat being the CM himself makes it possible to have at least 4-5 exciting scenes. This wouldn't have been possible had the hero's character been something else.

The emphasis on keeping up a promise is an instance of clever messaging. In 'Srimanthudu', Harsha was an outsider who comes equipped with the knowledge of rural reconstruction. In 'BAN', Bharat is an outsider who comes equipped with the awareness of how life is structured in the West, where he grew up. Both are English-savvy. Both are well-mannered. Both can fight like a typical mass Telugu cinema hero. Bharat is a convent-educated, hyper-enhanced version of 'Muta Mestri'. In other words, he is a mix of time-tested formula plus Koratala's something-else.

The biggest highpoints have to be those scenes where Bharat asserts himself in the presence of officials/Ministers. His earnestness is almost infectious. When people become his fanboys and fangirls, we actually find it convincing.

To the extent that the film avoids simple-minded solutions, 'BAN' at least spares us of the kind of imbecility we saw in a 'Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu' or an 'ISM'.

When Bharat loses an important battle in the court, the way people start seeing him is utterly realistic. "The common man is punished with heavy fines for disobeying traffic rules, but big the scamsters go scotfree," they say, almost reflecting the common refrain of the middle-class in today's India (Nirav Modis flee the country while the taxman continues to harass the commoner, we hear people say). Don't raise people's expectations too much is another lesson Bharat learns. Another very realistic point.

Bharat comes up with solutions like decentralization, which is opposed by entrenched vested interests in his own party. Yet, the party organization doesn't threaten to crumble down a wee bit even in the face of tectonic changes. Until a character hatches a conspiracy against the CM, there seems to be nothing to threaten the guileless dynast that is Bharat. Happens only in a La La Land!

Koratala's dialogues are overrated. Just consider the scene where a bunch of usual suspects tries to impress upon Bharat to compromise. Yes, that's the way real-life politicians think. But is that the way they would talk to a CM, like Rao Gopal Raos and Rami Reddys of a bygone era?

Prakash Raj comes across as the super-cabinet right from word go. There is no much of a surprise in store with respect to him.

A by-election becomes Bharat's prestige issue but the way it's handled leaves much to be desired. For a CM to think that physically overpowering baddies will buttress his credentials to rule the state is laughable.

And the finale is the most simplistic. Bharat emotionally hits out at unethical journalism and voila, people regain their senses and robotically restart rooting for him.

The Assembly session segments are short-lived. They come with cinematic liberties, especially where Posani openly disagrees with the CM despite being from the ruling party! Prudhvi and others are short-lived. However, the Art Director's work in these scenes is remarkable.

Kiara Advani goes missing from the scene far too many times. It's time for a romantic duet here and there when she is around. Like in 'Srimanthudu', the heroine's intelligence is overpowered by the hero's charms.

What makes the film Mahesh Babu's one-man show is not just Bharat's character but also his acting. As an authoritarian leader, he packs a punch. When he fights back tears, he is immensely lovable. As a lover boy, he shows grace. Prakash Raj is good enough with his variations. Kiara Advani comes with traces of starry grace. Her talent is yet to be explored, one feels.

DSP's songs get full justice in terms of picturization, especially 'Vacchadayyo Saami' and the montage title song. His BGM brims with gusto in some crucial episodes. Ravi K Chandran and Thirru do a splendid job with cinematography.

    Verdict:

'BAN' is a mix of oldness (formulaic story) and newness (hero's character, his solutions as CM). It's also a mix of realism and cinematic fantasies. It's a mix of highpoints (Bharat's key scenes in which he heralds reforms) and lows (the usual machinations). A brilliant performance by Mahesh Babu!
  • I really enjoyed this film as in form of leader for a country but in film some scenes could have more improvised as easily love affair was misused and easily resigned from his post. the scene was taken film in different direction and in fraction of seconds all changed and could have added more scenes regarding people faces problem through politics and how country goes downfall under corrupt politics
  • Story

Bharat Ane Nenu jeevi reviewBharat Ram (Mahesh Babu) is brought up in London and holds multiple degrees in Oxford University. He visits India when his father (Sarath Kumar) who is also the chief minister of AP expires. Varadarajulu (Prakash Raj) who is a close friend of his father and also the supremo of the political party convinces Bharat to take oath as CM. Rest of the story is all about Bharat who doesn't know anything about local politics try to change the system.

Mahesh Babu: Mahesh Babu has suited the role of Bharat Ram to a T. He looks stylish and elegant and he brings his personality into the character of CM. Mahesh Babu is always loved for his intensity and the way he has shown the intensity in media meet towards climax is exemplary. He makes the fights look believable though he donned the role of a posh NRI. Mahesh Babu has always been a part of different scripts and content based films. His decision to act in this film that sticks to the core plot without deviating for the sake of regular commercial elements is good! The best thing about Mahesh Babu in this film is the consistency with which he acted in this film throughout.

Kaira Advani looks good and acted well. Prakash Raj is gritty and realistic in his looks and with his performance. R Sarath Kumar is good as hero's father. Rao Ramesh shows subtility with his acting in a small yet vital role. Devaraj is good as villain. Posani Krishna Murali provides light humor. Brahmaji has been getting nice characters in most of the recent movies. He is good in this film too. P Ravi Shankar and Yashpal Sharma played negative roles. Anish Kuruvilla has suited the role of PS very well.

Story - screenplay - direction: A full fledged political film with hero playing CM role is a rarity in Telugu. We have seen only two such films in the past 2 decades in Telugu - Oke Okkadu (1999) and Leader (2010). Hence such a kind of concept is fresh. By having the protagonist as an NRI who is brought up in west, the director has tried to give a fresh ideology for CM character (like asking why the CM can't be directly elected by the voters instead of MLAs electing the CM). By observing the incohesive traffic sense, hero realises that punishment (heavy fines like in USA or Dubai) is the best way to bring responsibility and answerability among the public towards the system. He has also discussed about local governance which will bring down corruption at cabinet level. Koratala Shiva has done the film with full conviction and by not deviating from the core subject (except for a few duets and elevated fights to show heroism). Because he has stuck to the core theme, there is no entertainment angle in the film. The way he has written the press meet scene is so relevant to the TV channels today and it stands out in the entire film. Since it's a political film, some part of it might look monotonous.

Songs are by Devi Sri Prasad are good, but a film of this nature requires only montage songs. Background music is excellent. I loved the way he used title song's music bit as background score for the last fight of the film. Cinematography Ravi K Chandra and Thiru is outstanding. The hero introduction shots and traffic sequences stand out in terms of stylishness. Dialogues by Koratala Siva are good. A few one-liners like (kooragayallaa beram aadakandi) makes you smile in theater though it comes in a very serious scene. Action sequences of the film are executed effectively. Production design by Suresh Selvarajan is good. Editing by Sreekar Prasad is smooth. Production values by DVV Entertainments are grand. Koratala Siva understands the body language and strengths of Mahesh Babu very well and writes a script that suits the personal sensibilities and body language of Mahesh Babu (just like the way he understood and presented the strengths of Mahesh Babu in Srimanthudu). After Srimanthudu, he shows Mahesh Babu in a positive light with another ultra posh character. Plus points of the film are Mahesh Babu, Koratala Siva presentation, background music and technical values. On the flipside, the narration is slow and most of the time film is narrated in a single dimension. On a whole, Bharat Ane Nenu is a sensible content oriented film made with conviction by Koratala Siva that shows Mahesh Babu in a positive light!
  • =What I liked about the movie=

This is a very new concept for Tollywood cinema, and I'm happy that the director has decided to explore a political backdrop instead of sticking to the typical commercial template. Mahesh Babu has arguably given his best performance in his career, and it is refreshing to see the versatility in his performance as a CM. I do applaud Mahesh Babu for exploring different roles and taking a risk, especialyl when other actors play it safe and act in commercial movies. The best thing about this movie is that it is mostly plot driven, but there is some mass in to satisfy MB's fans and it does not ruin the movie. K.Siva has done a great job with creating political drama, as the scenes are very intense and thrilling . Comedy and randomness are almost non-existent and this is definitely appropriate for this movie (although some might be disappointed). Overall, the director has handled the theme well without injecting too much commercial elements that would have taken away from the story. Throughout the movie we see MB's evolution as a character. If you pay close attention to the scenes, you can see MB's personality changing as he is engulfed in the political world. K.Siva has put in a lot of effort into crafting a perfect screenplay for MB and this energizes his performance. Supporting cast have also done exceptionally well. MB is paired with exceptional actors who definitely give him good competition. The villains are great (although not as good as SJ Surya in Spyder) =What I didn't like about the movie=

The movie did mainly focus on the plot, but I felt they should have focused on it a bit more, since it had all the ingredients necessary to be a true political thriller. They could have delved deeper in the history of AP and tied it to factual events. The mass scenes aren't bad by any means, but some of them are not inserted in the right place, and it feels like a speed breaker. I would would label this as a political entertainer rather than thriller. Some scenes seem very strange and unrealistic. By that, I don't mean they are physics defying scenes, but they seem very strange and unrealistic. I can't go into much detail without spoiling it, but if you watch it, you are left scratching your head as why x person did that. Kiara Advani's character was over-hyped, but under performed. Not nearly as bad as Rakul Preet Singh in Spyder, but there isn't much she has to do in this movie. The movie does feel long, because some of the scenes are dragging in the second half . K.Siva should have paid more attention to pacing. I think the film could have been at least 15 minutes shorter. =Overall Verdict=

Bharat Ane Nenu is a very engaging political entertainer that highlights MB's capabilities as an actor and performer. It has plenty of political content that will engage fans, while also reserving those mass moments for MB's fans.
  • Such a good movie which makes everyone thinks about their responsibility and accountability towards society.

  • I felt like watching Mirchi, Srimanthudu together! Listen to "vachadayyo saami" after listening to "pandagala vachadu". It is the same stuff. Playing it so safe that it is boring now. It is like you learned a mathematical formula of getting a hit.. all you do is changing the variables in it. @Siva, can you please try a different formula now? I know you want to deliver a good message, but you can do a lot better at story telling. Don't try to show the hero.. try to tell the story. "Open door gym" fight in mirchi.. "mamidi thota" fight in Srimanthudu.. "Durga mahal" fight in this movie! Same stuff. *deep sigh*
  • Amazing movie. Typical Indian movie elements are there but there is a positive message and lots of good scenes. Mahesh Babu at his best!!
  • Bharath Ane Nenu is one film which has been eagerly awaited all over. This film marks the collaboration of Koratala Shiva and Mahesh Babu after the blockbuster hit Srimanthudu. Amid massive craze, this film has hit the screens today. Let's see whether the film lives up to its expectations or not.

    Story:

Bharath(Mahesh Babu), who graduates in the UK hears about the sudden death of his father(Sarath Kumar) who is the chief minister of the state. Leaving things behind, he rushes back to India. Upon his arrival, he is forced by his uncle(Prakash Raj) to fill his father's shoes as the chief minister of the state. Bharath takes up this deadly challenge only to find out several loopholes in the system. Rest of the story is as to how Bharath operates in his own style as a CM and brings a good change in the society.

    Plus Points:

The first thing that hits you right away in Bharath Ane Nenu is the scale and premise of the film. It has been quite some time that we have seen a political thriller which had a mainstream hero playing a CM. The manner in which the story unfolds by covering major social issues has been conceived in a spectacular manner.

Mahesh has given his career best performance which is truly award winning. The honesty, dedication and the command that Mahesh generates as CM takes the film to another level altogether. Mahesh not only looks super handsome as the young CM but also mouths terrific mass and political dialogues with aplomb.

Kiara Advani makes a staggering debut and fits her role perfectly. Not only does she look gorgeous but performance wise too, she has done a superb job. She is surely a star in the making and will go a long way in Tollywood. Seasoned actors, Prakash Raj and Rao Ramesh bring a lot of depth to the film with their terrific supporting act.

The interval bang is terrific and sets the tone for the second half in a stunning manner. The emotions showcased during the second half work well. Also, the manner in which certain key social issues like education, traffic and village administration have been showcased, looks quite good. Production values of the film are terrific and Devi's background score makes things even more gripping. The film has enough mass elements in the second half which will make the fans quite happy.

Minus Points: When compared to the first half the second half gets a tad slow during the end. The last ten minutes of the film is quite routine and predictable with nothing much great happening during this time.

The length of the film is also a tad long and all those who expect fun and comedy will get disappointed as the film is a serious political drama.

    Technical Aspects:

DVV Danayya has gone all out for this film and every penny spent looks amazing on screen. Special mention should go to the assembly set which looks spectacular on screen. The way it has been lit gives a rousing effect to the proceedings. Camerawork by Thiru is too good as he has showcased the political set up in quite a realistic manner. The film looks quite rich in every frame and the manner in which the proceedings are showcased give an earthy feel to the film.

Devi Sri Prasad is a huge asset to the film. The way the theme song is composed and goes with the proceedings of the film speaks volumes of Devi's talent. But more than his music, it is his background score which takes away the cake as it thrills you completely and keeps you hooked to the proceedings. Dialogues need a special mention and especially those written for Mahesh have a lot of value and are clap worthy. Mahesh's look has been designed quite well.

Coming to the director Koratala Shiva, he always saves the best for Mahesh. Credit should completely go to him for penning a story like this and showcasing Mahesh in a never before seen manner. The way he handles the social issues and keeps all the mass elements intact for fans showcases his worth as a director. His grip on emotions and the way he shows Mahesh as the young CM looks quite convincing. One can easily say that there is no better director who can handle social subjects and once again Koratala proves his class with his film.

    Verdict:

On the whole, Bharath Ane Nenu is a highly captivating political drama which clicks from the word go. Credit should go to Mahesh for not only accepting such a script but leading from the front with his career-best performance. Mahesh's fans will have a blast as the film will do exceptionally well in both the domestic and overseas markets. If you ignore the slightly predictable nature of the film, Bharath Ane Nenu ends up as a terrific summer watch which will break many records at the box office. Must watch.
