Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer do the dance of cat and mouse to absolute perfection. Sandra Oh plays a low level CIA employee named Eve Polastri who is fixated on solving a criminal serial killer's identity that no one else believes even exists. The serial killer/assassin is a young woman named Villanelle aka Oksana and is played by Jodie Comer.
Each murder that the serial killer assassin Villanelle commits is unique in its own way and will capture the adventurous spirit that exists in all of us. The serial killer/assassin Villanelle has her own handler who is a charming bearded rotund man named Konstantin Vasiliev (Kim Bodnia) and Villanelle knows that her handler is using her more as a weapon for alterior motives than as the somewhat father figure who tells his agent of destruction that he cares for her personal well being when really he just wants to control his beast from biting himself at the wrong time.
The supporting cast members are all eclectic characters with in depth personalities and a mysterious past thatthe audience will have a difficult time knowing if this is a spy versus spy thriller, serail killer themed film, a romance, or all of the above.
Mrs. Shullivan and I binged watched the first season between Christmas and New Years and it was the perfect way to recover from the hustle and bustle of another big family gathering. Just the two of us, the quirky CIA sleuth Eve, and her nemesis Villanelle aka Oksana. Cookies, coffee and a series of creative assassinations. The final episode was a bit disappointing (but predictable to allow for a season 2) thus the lower rating of 8 out of 10.
