  • There was 2 or 3 laugh out loud moments but at best it was watchable it's wasn't boring as such but unoriginal and nothing new to the scene watching dubbed in English I do wonder if some of it was lost in translation also as most fell flat. Could have been a lot worse however.

It's almost a shame that Xavier Gens seems to have to resort to making movies like this. On the other hand maybe he actually chose this. Whatever the case this feels like a Spring Break movie for adults. It of course has other things to offer but in its heart or in a nutshell this is it.

Now Budapest may be a party city, Jerusalem is for sure, but one of the reasons they probably chose it, is because it is cheap to shoot there. Eastern Europe is a welcome region for many movies, because you have knowledgeble film people/technicians there, but also do not have to spend too much money making a movie there. Something they used here - including some rumors or prejudices we may have about the city I reckon ... you can have fun with this as with many other movies, but you have to be in the right mind set

Budapest does a nice French spin on movies like The Hangover. It made me laugh, so for me it is a good comedy. The ending ruins it though. The film ends up another tale of men needing to be 'tamed' by their wives. Also, the writers have been trying a bit too hard convincing their boss they have never used any drugs, as that xtc bit is Just ridiculous. Overall it's a fine comedy for when you want to laugh and not think too much
  • First of all, let's make this clear for all the negative reviewers, especially for the Hungarians, this is a movie, a comedy, nothing to take too seriously. If you're offended by the fact that this story is going on in your city or country you just don't get the humor of it. It could have been in any other big city in the world. A big city and so obviously there is more going on than in a village in the outback. Why do people have to take everything so seriously? The movie as a comedy is entertaining, it got me laughing out loud more than once, maybe not as much as The Hangover as everyone wants to compare Budapest with it, but certainly more than the average comedy. The acting goes perfectly with the theme of the movie, nothing too serious, just a bit of banter. Honestly I don't see the problem with this movie, it's everything I need to decompress a bit.
  • I really enjoyed it. I never started watching it thinking it was a comedy and I never really saw it as one until I read the reviews on here.

It's a lot of fun and as many are comparing it to The Hangover, I may as well join in by saying that in my opinion it was far better than The Hangover which I found unfunny and not entertaining

Human behaviour, aspirations, nudity. It's all here and it's in the top 5 things I've watched on Netflix this year
  • A bad copy of Hangover. Not funny, predictable, a story full of sterotypes.
  • The Budapest concept is quite original from the outset. It arouses interest and curiosity as our main characters visit the city of Budapest, which Monsieur Octopus introduces them to. Manu Payet and Jonathan Cohen decide to set up a bachelor party business. That's the starting point. We then move on to the romantic intrigues of their respective wives, as well as the vicissitudes of some of their clients. In the final third, the situation is turned on its head.

The delirious elements are not carried over into the second half of the film, which slows the pace or at least tips it more into a romantic comedy that interests us less, even if it is well-written. This gives the impression that the film doesn't live up to its premise and becomes more predictable.

The cast is fine. And we'd like to single out Monsieur Poulpe, who, fortunately, keeps the delirious elements going for the whole duration of the film.
  • I watch this film after my travel to Budapest, I liked it a lot. People are nice, streets are clean and calm, incredible infrastructure despite it small size on map. This film is a caricature of french desires for cheap, and its only complete these 2 actors that always find something provoking in films that has nothing with reality. It is pathethic, and unpleasant to watch, no values, no love, no respect.

    Warning: Spoilers
There is 2 ways to see this movie. 1st just because you are bored and you just want to watch something or 2nd to take it seriously and actually find the meaning. Unfortunately don't see it in the 2nd way, this movie is full of bad stereotypes, clichè, not the best acting, not funny at all. I got so many time confused with so many back and forward that I was just wanted to finish this movie, of course there is not character development that you will care about them and you will feel bad. At last you can characterize the movie as "a bad copy of hangover" for me 02/10
  • I was born and raised in Budapest, but I live in the west since over thirty years now and even if I think, that some of the things in the movie were a bit exaggerated and maybe possible after the fall of communism, during the years when nobody knew how to continue, but not today, I also think that the other reviewers giving this movie a 1 star rating out of national pride, are just disgusting butthurt snobs and probably nationalist scum, who have no humor and actually hurt the image of Hungary more, than they would believe. Do not listen to them.

The movie is very funny and knowing that it's true and that you can really visit their website and book these trips makes it even funnier.

It's a shame that the site is only in french and you can't book these trips from the country I live in.

I laughed and enjoyed myself very much during the movie and the Hungarian music they used made me nostalgic.

If you liked the first Hangover, you will like this one too.
  • Degeneration - one word that would agree many of french. Story about big boys that cannot make their career, loosers want party and make money. Sounds fun until you watch it.

In this film promoted prostitution and drugs as a main attraction in Budapest. Of course it is not make anyhow Hungarians enjoy to watch it, it is humilatingg and dirty. "Shame" would be better name for this artistic performance.

Maybe this is funny in France. I have no idea. But it's so so bad. The jokes fall flat and rely entirely on thin cliches and tired, played out stereotypes. I couldn't make it through this garbage film.
  • They're trying so hard to be funny that it becomes painful to watch. I'm French and I'm ashamed that such terrible French movies are available on Netflix, when other good comedies are not. I gave it a 2, but could as well been a 1 or no star at all.
  • Warning: Spoilers
It was promising until our heros got to Budapest. Here, the makers elected to insert one of the dumbest and most overused stuffings there is, one that seems to be irresistable to bad screenwriters wanting to fill gaps: The guy with a prostitute in his lap when his wife calls. In this movie, an enormous panic is triggered with the guy and his friend. What to do?? ANSWER, OF COURSE. In the nightclub. What follows is a Laurel and Hardy type slapstick where the wife back home demands a photo of the guy in the location he lied about going to, London. Friend says a dumb line about tea (because London etc) loudly in the background as the conversation is on. Arms and legs! Wild eyes! Oh my god, what to do! Seriously, this crap thinking is just top shelf annoying and makes ppl turn it off. As if the guy can´t just reject or ignore the call with a perfectly good excuse for doing so.

    One word DISGUASTING!!!

DISRESPECT shown in d film to the whole nation of HUNGARY. A bunch of loosers trying to show their businness skills... GO WORK! Unless you cannot make normal movies don't parasite on the reputation of the whole country.

I like Budapest for its pastry, Danube and atmosphere... I wish here would be minus rating.
  • What is a clue of this movie? Promotion of what?

I like nice french comedies... but this one is a trash.

Don't even waste your time to watch it? It s so WASTED TIME!
  • There are funny movies about bachelor parties, 'The Hangover' comes to mind, and then there are totally unfunny movies about bachelor parties, and 'Budapest' tops the list. Anyone who compares the two favorably has either no taste or is related to the producers.

There is not an ounce of humor to be found here and the only thing to be said about this waste of film is they attempt to insult as many people as possible, including obese women, dwarfs, and pretty much the entire population of Hungary.

After subjecting myself to this insulting unfunny movie, I can understand why the French think Jerry Lewis was a comedic genius.

Couple of French greedy & dirty minded guys was not inspired to pay bills in France. Greediness brought them to beautiful Budapest. But in this film not about beauty... it's about worst dreams of men in terms of consumerism for little money, as well desire earn more and destroy face of Hungary... Beh.

I watched this movie in French, it's actually sometimes very subtle so it must difficult to translate in English (confirmed after seeing the english subtitles). The movie is a bit long sometimes, but always with good intentions considering how sleezy the topic could become. So i was positively suprised!
  • This movie not about Budapest but stupid people:( as I'm a lady from Budapest I can tell you that it's offensive for me. Budapest an elegant city, much nicer and cooler! shame on you...

    Meh
Not very good. Kinda gay actually... Dr. Dre once asked the question, " Where is christ in all this crisis?" ... it's a fair thing to ask.

0 stars film. It is okay for home video but definetly not for movie for publicity... What have you used or smoke to creat this crappy movie? Looks like an author and director has lack of fantasy.

Don't loose your time on it.

    KAKA
    The film is smelly Kaka.

Bad actors play, bad scenario, bad values.

After film I felt dirty as I were with them.

    Absolutely don't like.

    Kaka film.
  • I didn't find so horrible as the comments below. It's a nice story and it's based in a real story, the director could be more creative using other kind of jokes it's always about drugs and women. I liked the representation of the two main couples, it really represents real life, one couple that talks about everything and trust each other and the other couple where the husband lies to the woman and the woman never trust him and repeating this cycle the woman starts to control the husband and the husband feels afraid to tell everything to her. But if you want to see a comedy like the hangover I think it worths the view. For the jokes makes sense I think you should really watch in france with subtitles.

Ps: the site to book this bachelor parties really exists.
